Pardew Hails Frenchman – A Top Top Player

There were many positives that Alan Pardew can take out of this win today against a Chelsea side, whose nine game unbeaten streak was ended bu a Newcastle side who were simply excellent in the second half.

Yohan Cabaye Everton

Yohan Cabaye – a top top player

And it was interesting before Yohan Cabaye took the free kick on 68 minutes that resulted in Yoan Gouffran (what a buy this lad has been) headed home to put Newcastle had, Cabaye was in consultation with the manager on the touch-line.

This is what Alan said after the game:

“I just asked him to hit it on the back of their back four with shape and a bit of pace because we weren’t really getting any joy from balls going into their box.”

“He went for glory, really, but he executed it on the money and I am not going to try to take any credit for that.” (but I just thought I’d mention it).” “You have to be a top, top player to hit that ball in, and Gouff connected brilliantly and gave us a platform then.”

“I’d like to think we could have had three more points. That would have put us in a great position and we have got to try to make that up in the next 10 games if we can.”

“But I do think we have played some really good football. I wouldn’t say we were brilliant in the first half, but in the second half, we were very good today.”

Alan’s right that we played great in the second half, as the game opened up, and the first half wasn’t unlike the first 90 minutes against Manchester City, where Newcastle were solid at the back and hung in there.

In the second half Newcastle went on the attack and we looked a good side going forward,  and scored two very good goals to win the game.

And Sunderland were back to their losing ways today, as they went down 1-0 at Hull, after having Lee Cattermole and Andrea Dossena both sent off for dangerous tackles in added time in the first half, when they were already 1-0 down. through an own goal by Carlos Cuellar.

Both players will now miss the next three games, and after beating Newcastle last time out,  they really shot themselves in the foot today,  and Newcastle are now 10 points above the Black Cats.

Tiote was immense again today and all credit to Anita for picking up where he left off.

We should do that with all of our set pieces Alan and we may actually score a few .

Hitting it to the big man at the back post to head across goal is getting old.

At his best Cabaye is a classy player and today looked a lot more of a potent threat when Anita came. His cross for the goal was perfect

Anita for me does his best stuff in the oppos half. That is where his passing ability really shines and sets up chances. In our half he is still good in possession but doesn’t win enough tackles or pressure hard enough for a DM. Thats a weakness when we dont have the ball.

If Pardew could work a forward midfield role for him into the team he could be a real asset.

With Anita in the side we are a far bigger threat going forward, people say he’s not big or strong enough but I honestly think he is, either way Pardew simply has to find a way to get him into the starting 11 as with him playing the like’s of Cabaye, Sissoko, Gouffran and Remy have far more options as his quick passing opens teams up for us to exploit

Despite a battling performance against Man City in midweek, I never saw todays result coming. Pardew got the tactics totally right and the lads played brilliantly. You could pick almost anyone as man of the match (apart for Obertan and sadly Cisse). I only hope they can keep it up against the “lesser” teams. If we can play like that more often it will hopefully persuade Remy to sign and Cabaye to stay. You only have to look at Ba to see the grass is not always greener!

    JB,

I agree we are definitely more of a threat with Anita in but his threat comes from playing where Cabaye should really be – in the last third. And Cabaye is hardly ever there for wharever reason.

Its hard to know where to play Anita or who to drop to accomodate him. Sissoko?

    I’d go with

    ——————–Tiote

    Sissoko – Cabaye – Anita – Gouffran

    ———————Remy

It would allow us the continue playing the ball on the ground and the two wide men offer good cover for the full backs

    Couple of things
    A) MOTD is going to be a must watch tonight!

    B) Anita absolutely has to start, he’s exactly what were always missing, the link between midfield and attack! A midfield of him cabs and tiote could be truly special!
Also have to say sissoko massively upped his game in the second half and sadly showed why benny doesn’t fit the team (imho)
Him and goofy dropped deep, they switched flanks, they peppered the Chelsea box with crosses, attempted through balls, played short sharp one two’s and got to the byline and most importantly instead of trying to pull off tricks he kept it simple knocked it past the FB’s and took off like usain bolt!

    JB,

I nearly posted exactly the same formation but I find it hard to name a side without HBA – but the truth is the side might be more organised and have a better shape without him.

But – on his day there is no player in our squad to touch him.

Nope it’s not always greener but i certainly can’t begrudge the lad to take the chance to sign for the European champions at the time, tbf he played a fair bit under Benitez, Mourinho has his style and no one has bias with him, look at mata barely gets a game!

After his last two displays Anita simply has to start and that formation is the only one that I can see that gives us a real threat going forward and is solid defensively.

At this point in time HBA is a luxury we simply cannot afford to have and Cisse’s form is seriously worrying

I’ve been slaughtered before for saying this but while on his day HBA is capable of a world class display, his day’s are few and far between. If he was consistently at his best he’d be at a Barca or Madrid and not NUFC

I really don’t know what has happened to cisse, came on with half hour to go, didn’t get a single shot off, his touch was awful and again looked disinterested
For me shola is well above him now in the pecking order, cisse for me was the only downer of the afternoon 🙁

Although he scored some really important goals for us last season that basically kept us in the league, his lack of form is now a long running thing that has to be a serious worry.

I was hoping that with a good pre season he’d regain his form and confidence but it’s scary now as he’s gone from looking world class to looking out of his depth at this level

Lads, i know that Cabaye, Tiote, Remy where good today bt does anyone agree that Debuchy and Mbiwa where absolute immense? Some of the defending by these two today was absolute top drawer. What we lack from them both and most of the team today in consistency. Hats to Williamson also who has been solid of late. Tiote was also back to his old self. It’s nice to see Pardew not packing the team with all of our best players because it does not work. We need a TEAM, not individuals on that pitch. Anita…..wow, what a set up for Loic Remy. If we can improve our consistency levels then we could be in for a good season and there is no reason we can’t finish top 10.

It is fairly amazing that over 180 minutes of normal time (discounting the ET from the City game) that a CB pairing of Willo and M’Biwa have kept clean sheets against Chelsea and Man City…this isn’t sending the right message to Ashley lads 🙂

Still got a big grin on my face about the result and performance today. Been having some fun with my Chelsea supporting friends back home.

Could definitely get used to this Newcastle, if they give us a chance.

I didn’t think we could resist chelsea today but I am so glad I didn’t join in with some of the complete balloons who came on here pre-match to slag the team.

Are we becoming resilient, like a bug that fights back against antibiotics? Maybe we can be the C-Diff of the prem ha ha oh wait C-diff isn’t funny sorry. Great win, love the fact that Goofy is probably growing into the PL work ethos better than most in our squad. What a bargain, please note!

Tbf wolfshead I still think Colo is an auto pick on his day he is imperious and a settling influence at the back. Hats off to the lads standing in but I think Colo remains our centrepiece.

Tsunki, I agree, for now. But once Mbiwa gets a full season of EPL under his belt id say it will be time for Colo to withdraw. Apart from the Liverpool game he has been excellent this season, like a younger faster version of Colo.

Since Willo came back in to the team against Everton we have looked so much better at the back. I think Willo and Collo are the first choice centre backs and rightly so.

A great team performance. The back four looked really solid and should remain, Mike Williamson had his best game for the toon…on the end of every high ball and Debuchy again immense showing great covering. More of the same against spuds and we can do some damage.

Lol sorry mate popped up to pick up a take away!

For me, no one in the line up should be an automatic selection, but colo on top for is as close as they come, but if say he’s not fully fit for another 2-3 games and yanga n willo continue like this then why change what isn’t broken
