Shola Ameobi Starts Up Front For Newcastle

nufc emblemchelsea

Well, we got the team right for a change, and the only surprise in Alan Pardew’s team for the Chelsea game this afternoon is Shola Ameobi up front as a striker alongside Loic Remy, as Newcastle revert to a 4-4-2 formation.

And with so many defenders being out injured, James Tavernier comes in on the substitutes bench, which is also made up of Rob Elliot, Vurnon Anita, Gabriel Obertan, Sammy Ameobi, Hatem Ben Arfa and Papiss Cisse.

So the bench is quite strong when and if Alan Pardew wants to change things around in the second half.

The midfield four are Moussa Sissoko, Cheick Tiote, who again captains the side, Yohan Cabaye and Yoan Gouffran, and Vurnon Anita is again unlucky to be left out, after his very good performance against Manchester City.

For Chelsea, former top Newcastle striker Demba Ba is not even ion the bench.

We’re not expecting much out of this game, so maybe Newcastle can surprise us this afternoon.

Here’s hoping. 😀

Teams:

Newcastle United (4-4-2): Tim Krul; Mathieu Debuchy, Mike Williamson, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Davide Santon; Moussa Sissoko, Cheick Tiote (c), Yohan Cabaye, Yoan Gouffran; Shola Ameobi, Loic Remy
Substitutes: Rob Elliot, James Tavernier, Vurnon Anita, Gabriel Obertan, Sammy Ameobi, Hatem Ben Arfa, Papiss Cisse
Referee: Lee Mason (Greater Manchester)

Chelsea (4-2-3-1): Petr Cech; Branislav Ivanovic, David Luiz, John Terry (c), Ashley Cole; Ramires, Frank Lampard; Juan Mata, Oscar, Eden Hazard; Fernando Torres
Substitutes: Mark Schwarzer, Cesar Azpilicueta, Gary Cahill, John Obi Mikel, Willian, Andre Schurrle, Samuel Eto’o

I suppose if Shola can do for Remy what he did for Cisse, then we might stand a chance of scoring and getting beat 3-1 instead of 3-0 – looking forward to it!

No not shola would rather cisse Sammy even Campbell shola is slow and only scores about 2 a season not knocking him just don’t think he is good enough other than from the bench I am more than happy for him to shove my words down my throat today though and score a hat-trick

Well it’s official. Pards doesn’t trust Benny ahead of either fullback nor in the middle. Basically he’s taken Marvs place on the bench.

Hoof to Shola for a knock down to Remi tactics, n pack the midfield with 3-4. good to see Dummett signed mind, that’ll save Norbert Colon a few bob!

He is having to play Strolla because the board wouldn’t buy Gomis.

Ben Arfa and Cisse have been awful. Don’t deserve to be on the pitch.

Thank christ he hasn’t picked Ben Awful the liability

At least we have players who can lift their head and pick a pass…..unlike Ben Awful the French version of Ketsbia…looks at his own feet the whole time…never releases the ball when he should….and then never bothers to track back after hes lost it.

Think Sissoko should have been dropped as well……..how Anita can’t get into this team is beyond me……hes had more man of the match performances than any other player based on number of games played…unfortunately hes too much of a footballer for Pardew

I have no idea what Pardew is doing with this team.

Shola in the middle and Remy on the wing?
    Sissoko seems ineffectual, no HBA?
Gouffran is the new Jonas. Lots of running but no end product.

I don’t think the pieces fit together into a balanced team.
I don’t think Pardew knows what he’s doing.

When we start losing a run Pardew gets scared and reverts to his trusty 4-4-2 and brings out the battlers. Unfortunately this always loses.

That’s an awful team capable of a draw if we’re lucky

In all fairness to shola he hasn’t been out up there to score but simply win the ball and bring others into play in a more direct formation and his performance Wednesday certainly has earned him a start if were persisting with this formation

    Jimmy
Is benny even fit? He looks woefully out of shape so perhaps carrying a knock?

    Catchy
Sadly have to agree there, still hasn’t got a clue as to our best formation yet

how would u guys put together the front 6?

it’s hard to find a spot for Sissoko in the middle as Cabaye & Tiote pick themselves…

    What about

Ben Arfa Tiote (c) Cabaye Sissoko Gouffran

the problem we have is that neither tiote or sissoko are good passers of the ball. playing both at cm makes us unbalanced. playing santon, who is very right footed at lb, makes us unbalanced, and playing hba, who on his day is magical, makes all play revolve around him making us lose our team shape, thus becoming, yep, unbalanced

i cant argue with pardews selection though tbh, because im out of ideas, just a shame after all this time we go back to dinosaur 442 again

I cant see this line up scoring goals. Shola certainly wont get us goals. Gouffran is hardworking but far from proliific which leaves remy who’ll be marked out by terry & luiz. Where will the goals come from?

Sissoko can play a pass. he is just out of form. we need to score goals and pressure chelsea like we did 2 seasons ago. if we sit back, we will get spanked by their midfielders
