Can This Story Really Be True?

It’s a Sunday and we know there are a lot of stories in the Sunday papers that are probably lacking in accuracy, and we saw the story from Alan Oliver, the former Chief Sports journalist of the Evening Chronicle,  in the Sunday People last night,  and it’s hard to believe and it seems a story of dubious accuracy.

mike ashley joe kinnear

Mike Ashley and Joe Kinnear

The story is that Joe Kinnear went on a scouting trip to Birmingham to watch a Capital One Cup game against Swansea in which Shane Ferguson, who is on loan there for the season from Newcastle, had a particularly good game, and Joe asked Birmingham officials about the youngster, and was told he was already a Newcastle player.

This is what a Birmingham City source told Sunday People Sport:

“Ferguson had a particularly good game that night and Joe Kinnear told one of our officials he was interested in signing him.”  “At first our guy thought he was joking but then he realised Kinnear did not know Ferguson was already a Newcastle player.”

The 22-year-old is a good young player, although he’s been on the bench for the last few games, but since Joe Kinnear’s job is to bring on the younger players at all levels, like sending them out on loan, and bringing good players into the club, it really is hard to believe this actually happened.

And there’s the backdrop to the story of the local Chronicle, Journal and Sunday Sun reporters still being banned by Mike Ashley, which is ridiculous, so maybe there’s a move afoot in the press to further embarrass Joe Kinnear and Mike Ashley.

Maybe the story is true, but there’s as much chance of  it being true as Newcastle had of beating Chelsea 2-0 yesterday, so there’s a chance, a small chance of it being true we suppose. 😀

But the sooner this particular standoff between the Newcastle owner and the local papers is brought to an end, the better it will be for everybody connected with the Newcastle club, especially after the stellar performance of the team yesterday, in beating a very good in-form Chelsea side and to deserve the win too.

But that move must come from Mike Ashley, since he started this standoff.

What do yo think?

Comments welcome.

    HaHaHa –
Not sure picking a fight with the local press is going to generate lots of positive ‘News’ about our highly esteemed DOF.

Morning all…Not sure on this one. On the one hand it seems too much of a stretch, even for Joe. On the other, you wouldn’t think there would be a need to fabricate a JK story as he does a fine job of it by himself.

Either way, gave me a slight chuckle 🙂

I missed the game yesterday, but it was a pleasent surprise 🙂

…lets hope we can build on it – I am starting to demand we build on these performances cause it cannot be right we are so poor with the team we got! Can it?

Forgive me if I am wrong, but is the Sunday People owned by the Mirror Group who own the Chronicle????? Shity revenge from an unknown source in Birmingham. In my opinion in was not a scouting mission but Kinnear went there to actually watch Fergie

Jesper…You missed one of our better performances mate. Clearly not the finished article, but certainly another reminder that we can do it.

As for building on it…Fingers crossed

Ibiza…the family is in town so there was sadly no time for watching us play 🙁

…so it has a very happy surprise seeing we had won! and it even seem like we were making trouble for Chelsea with more shots on target?

    Fingers crossed mate 😀

No doubt some revenge, but this is by no means a new story, this story surfaced a couple of months ago

And some decent passing along the way. They continued with the fight and spirit from the Man City, pre ST, too. Lovely stuff.

Right, to the shops, got a Sunday Roast to buy for.

Join us at 2pm for an exclusive episode of “burning the house down with Ibizatoon”…you won’t see this story in the chronicle, the naughty boys and girls

I know there is truth in this, I was told about it by someone that works close to Birmingham and that was 3-4 weeks ago I’m just surprised it’s taken this long for this to come out

It hasn’t taken this long to come out!

This story was ran over a month ago.

The Mirror digging it back out because as you all know they are the same group as the Chronicle/Journal

This story was mentioned a week or two ago by Steve Howey on local radio, it was Lee Clark who told him. I can’t see why Howey would be making it up.
We all know Kinnear is a useless Baffoon, this just rubber stamps it.

As tads says, this is not a new story and it was posted on here a few weeks ago by someone who was given it by a Birmingham fan.

Scottie, you give Kinnear too much credit by saying Kinnear might have been watching Ferguson as one of our loanees – given that he seems to work from home (yes, I’m sure many of us utter a questioning cough when we hear that particular term), chances are he wouldn’t know Darrem Ferguson from his very close friend, Alex.

Can we be sure he knew what day it was let alone where he was and why?

But the point is, Ashley and his junta who seem oblivious to the practicalities and ramifications of playing games with the media, need to take a reality check especially when Kinnear, a public face of Newcastle United’s wandering the streets unaccompanied.

Surely Wendy Taylor should have or did caution the idiots and if do, was probably ignored by they who know best?

There’s no doubt they’ve made a big mistake that’ll just become compounded as time goes on.

What goes around…. comes to mind.

    Billythefish @15

Don’t you think you might just be being a tad harsh on Kinnesr?

Would you be as hard were he an aged relative of yours? He needs understanding, kindness, support and…. sacked!

It seems either old or untrue – and very likely a revenge piece. But…
    1. It’s still bloody funny and undermines JFK and Ashley that wee bit more
    2. It only works because JFK is already thought of as a buffoon. nobody would believe it of, say, Martinez.

What is more worrying is Oliver was prepared to sit on this story until it became convenient in the ongoing battle with the Ashley regime to release it. Why has this story, which has whiskers on it, only appeared now?
TBH, I think the papers are not blameless. The coverage of the Time4 Change march was disproportionate and the likes of Ryder and Oliver need to get over themselves. The fact is, with the internet coverage, it is only Grandad who may be missing out on a few tidbits. The papers can’t wring their hands and squeal about free speech when they are willing to stow a story to gain favour and release it when it suits them.

And given that it is Joe Kinnear we are talking about, I have no doubt that this is entirely true. But he’s Ashley’s mate and God knows he needs one so if he wants to pay a pal to tell tales or pander to him, good luck to him, sad b****d.
