Newcastle were interested in Marseilles winger Andre Ayew in the summer, and the Mirror are reporting that the French club are ready to sell him to improve their financial books, and that’s mainly because of their poor performance in the Champions League this season.
Andre Ayew – available in January?
Marseilles have lost all three of their Champions League group games so far this season, and the chances of progressing in the competition are slim at best, and there’s not gong to be much chance to make the Europa League either.
They are in a tough group of Arsenal, Borussia Dortmund and Napoli, and because of their lack of money from European play this season, they may now want to sell the 23 year-old winger.
Newcastle were in for Ayew late in the summer transfer window, and at that time Marseilles were asking £10M for the 45 times capped Ghanaian International, whose younger brother Jordan is also at the French club, and could even be a better buy.
23 year-old Ayew has said in the summer he would welcome a move to the Premier League, but top club Liverpool are also said to be interested in the player.
Newcastle need a another striker this January, and a winger, but it could be that they elect to bring in home-based players for a change, with Tom Ince of Blackpool available for around £4M, because his contract runs out next summer,
Tom would probably be better value for money than Ayew.
