Vurnon Anita is having a very good season so far, and there have been a number of times when he has come on as a sub, and then played extremely well, including against Chelsea on Saturday, and of course he was a starter in the side earlier in the season.
Vurnon Anita – in good form this season
Vurnon has given an interview to the local pres today, and he discusses the consistency that Newcastle have lacked so far this season, but Alan Pardew in his press conference today said that the side have been consistent in the game they have played since the Everton debacle – against Cardiff, Liverpool, Sunderland, Manchester City and Chelsea.
And the worst performance there of course was against Sunderland, but we were unlucky and could have easily won that game – but since the result is all that matters in these games, the Newcastle fans’ reaction to that was understandably negative – in fact very negative.
This is what Vurnon said today:
“After a good result, everybody is happy, but we must keep both feet on the ground, of course,. “We’ve got a tough game against Spurs on Sunday. We must work hard again to get a good result.”
“We must work hard to keep that consistency so we can win games.” “We’re working on that in training.” “We got a boost off the Chelsea game, but Spurs is going to be hard.
“They’re a very good team. We must work hard from the start to the end of the game.”
It’s certainly a test of this Newcastle side on Sunday, and history shows we haven’t won at White Hart Lane for five years, so it’s hardly a lucky ground for us, but on the positive side a draw would be a good result, and a win could see us thinking we may even be able to do very well this season in the Premier League.
Here’s hoping.

Comment #1Our best midfielder by some way. Haven’t seen somebody influence a midfield like that since Cabaye in his first outing against Villa.

Comment #2I’m starting to think that I’m the only worried about what Spurs have to offer on Sunday, seems like most fans claim they are weaker without Bale, I think they are stronger….they have bought really well, formation has changed this season though and that’s what is taking a while for them to get used to, if they move the ball quicker they’ll be really good. Don’t take spurs lightly, 5pts away from Arsenal who only just beat them but certainly didn’t outplay them at emirates.

Comment #4We were unlucky not to get points last season at White Hart Lane Walker should have seen red for that challenge were Gouffran had to get stretchered off he was not the same for the rest of the season but he has brought it back this year time for a bit of revenge!
I feel we can get joy down the flanks against Spurs but we need to get bodies into the box to support I would play Sissoko and Gouffran on the wings again with Remy up front and either Anita or Arfa behind him pulling the strings

Comment #5Another misleading headline, Mike Ashley does not want consistency, consistently poor will have us relegated and consistently good might have us in the dreaded EL, win one, lose one and the fat man is a happy chappie.

Comment #6Seen spurs a few times this season and i don’t think they are there for the taking! In fact i think they are due to absolute smash a team 4/5 or 6-0! They create alot of chances and they press really high on the opposition centre backs! In paulinho and sandro theyve got enough to dominate the centre, eriksson creates chances for fun , just soldado and lamela really havent fit yet! Really hoping they leave defoe out, hes got a great record against us! Same as lennon ! Despite his england performances i dont rate Townsend that high, hes very wasteful! Dembele is one of the most underrated players in the league though, so consistent and id rate Lloris as the best keeper in the league if not the world at the moment ! They are a top 4 team when they click

Gouffran was excellent last season down there, I hope he turns up with a point to prove this Sunday.

I certainly don’t think they’re there for the taking and I hope the team don’t turn up thinking that the Chelsea game makes us world beaters as we’ve come unstuck there in the past, but I definitely think we can get a result there.

Comment #9I get the feeling that AVB still has not got his best side in his mind yet. Whilst they are very tidy on the ball -especially at the back -despite what other suggest -they are having problems in the final third -with some lack of creativity. Their forwards are not clicking (just yet). So if there is a good time to play them, and if an attacking Toon turn up -we very well might get a result. They will be aware of Remys threat on the counter attack so may not play such a compressed game.Benny might be useful in this regard as a sub. I hope Percy does not play Coloccini and I think Mr T will start. Dilemna is whether to play Anita – who is more positive -ie pushes forward more than Mr T.

Comment #11I watched spurs last night and they did seem to lack a cutting edge, even with ericksen in the side, it was 2 bits of brilliance by lamela that saved them. And i know it was a 2nd defence basically but there were a few moments when they seemingly switched off completely, sheriff had 2 good chances to score and their goal came out of basically very little. They are good at the back but they aren’t impenetrable either. It all depends on which newcastle shows up.

Comment #14Jayphoto completely agree that Spurs are going to give someone a hiding very soon, I have been very impressed by Spurs this season. The defence is not impenetrable but we are defensive and rarely get more than 2 players in the box (on a good day) took a deflection last yr I think from Gouff’s shot. Dembele is class massively underated, think they will play Townsend and Lennon on either wing. Townsend is another perfect example of what is wrong with British players, the lad has bags of talent but must have 7 or 8 shots a game, constantly cutting inside think if AVB played him on left and Lennon on right than Soldado would do much better!! Our recent away performances haven’t been great, although a lot of fans are getting carried away because of Chelsea result…..We we poor in that first half and there for the taking, letting Chelsea play, That is by far the worst I have seen Chelsea play for a while and most of it was their own doing. Probably the reason I’m not getting carried away.

Comment #15I think we can get LUUK de jong if we tried.
He has been 3rd choice at Borussia Monchengladbach behind Max Kruse and Banimir Hrgota.
Wish we had gone for Kruse this summer when he was at Freiburg.
If we are looking at a CB, which we should be then we can do a lot worse than Matthias Ginter at 21 a top, top-top Prospect.

Pundits etc will always bang on about not playing well and winning which is always the sign of a good team, something we did last week but the team we played were awful, as Mourinho said “I made 11 mistakes” harsh but fair

If that saying could ever be truly applied, that season we finished fifth, due to work commitments I endured some of the worst dross I’ve ever witnessed but walked away with three points, the best I seen us play that season was the 0-3 loss to Chelsea (which was an injustice).

Watched plenty of games that season where we hung on by the skin of our teeth but won, in fact we were outplayed in more games but a mixture of luck and opponents inadequacies when it came to finishing helped us!! Best I saw us play that season was the West Brom away performance!!
