Newcastle Could Miss Out On This Striker Target In January

Corriere dello Sport are reporting not for the first time,  that the Italian club Lazio are interested in Newcastle striker target Bafe Gomis in January, when he will be available at a cut price, since his five-year contract at Lyon runs out at the end of June.

Bafe Gomis – available for just €2M?

Newcastle bid as much as £9M for the player last August, but Joe Kinnear couldn’t get the deal done, due to his agents wanting exorbitant fees to do the deal.

Usually Newcastle would be interested in getting the player for less than quarter of that price, which if the Italian press is to be believed – is what the fee for Gomis is in January.

€2M is the fee quoted, but that seems a bit low at around £1.7M, and that’s less than 20% of what Newcastle were willing to pay for him back in August.

Bafe has played 11 times for Lyon this season with 3 goals, and his total record over almost five years at the French club is 75 goals scored in 205 appearances.

It will be interesting to see who Newcastle and Director of Football Joe Kinnear have lined up in January, but if this fee is accurate wed be fools not to try to get this lad to the club in January.

That’s especially true because the chances of Newcastle keeping the great Loic Remy at Newcastle come the summer, seem to be fading with every great goal he scores  for us. 🙁

Comments welcome.

Regarding Santon, he is a good player. I believe in Mourinho’s judgement.
I also think he will be much better in Milan, the system suits him better. Their wide attacks only from their full backs bombing forward and they are not really fb probably more like wb or wide midfielders same system like Inter with Nagatomo and Jonathan or Napoli and most of Serie A teams. They stack heavily in central midfield and central defense areas.

i think we need someone better than this, if we hold a cyrrent form and luck we could be in a good position to atract more than a medicore striker, look at remy if we had got him last jan for 8mil would have been great, surely carrs got eyes on others of that quality in dutch german belgium leagues

With Kinnear in charge of buying, selling, football strategy, direction, development, coaching and other things, he’s got a lot on his plate.

Given that we’ve been blessed with him for five months now, he’s had ample time to assess and report on the football side of the business. But, I wonder whether he’s even got as far as defining the purpose of such a report or has might have forgotten about it – that’s assuming that Ashley’s even expected or asked him for one?

The man is a complete waste of space whose life, I’d imagine is split between having informal meetings discussing modern football and never over a few drinks), duvet days and trying to work out what he’s supposed to be doing.

Player recruitment? Not a chance because his very involvement is likely to result in raised eyebrows and incredulity among players, agents and club officials.

He had over two months to bring players in over the summer only to tell fans that the club’s budget wouldn’t stand the hit!

With the development of Newcastle United in his hands, it’s not worth holding any hope for a successful window.

If you really have vacated your fence and plan to use that space to showcase it’s potential, might I suggest you ask Ashley for some advice? There will be a nominal consultancy fee for it, but you can be assured it will be packed with advertising boards (Sports Direct-related brands possibly?) in no time.

Ashley’ll take care that fees are advantageously structured too. So all on all, you’ll have nothing to be concerned about – that’s part of Ashley’s service.

I would not be surprised if there is already an agreement in place for Gomis.

Lets be honest, it is not like we do not have form for these kind of deals.

Lets have a look at how Lazio compares to Newcastle for a deal.

Newcastle – Stronger league, Fellow French Players, Long time admirers, already had contact with the player, form for nicking players on deals like this.

Lazio – 8th in Serie A, weaker league, less fellow nationals at the club… a club that has had bans put on its stadium 3 times THIS year for Racism.

I cannot speak for Gomis, but I know where I would be choosing to playing next.
