Newcastle – We Have A Problem

French striker Loic Remy is getting some really great press coverage at the moment, and of course he deserves it, after playing so well for Newcastle this season so far.

loic remy scores

Loic Remy slots the ball home on Sunday

But there’s a problem with that as far as Newcastle are concerned, because the chances of our signing him permanently next summer, is inversely proportional to how well he plays for us.

So in short,  the better he plays and the more goals he scores this season, the less chance we will have of signing him on a permanent basis.

And there’s already some of Europe’s biggest clubs monitoring his progress, and are likely to bid for the player next summer when his loan deal is up at Newcastle.

And it makes it even worse that we failed to sign him in January, when he went to QPR for bigger money,  because if we had signed him then, he would have been our player now, and it would have been unlikely we would have been so close to relegation last season.

Remy has conducted himself very professionally  at Newcastle, and seems to like it playing for the club and its passionate supporters, and he also is appreciative of manager Alan Pardew, who is making him a better striker and that Loic works hard in training.

And who knows, maybe with Newcastle and their fans being so good to him since he did the dirty on us in January, maybe he will realize which side his bread is buttered on (so to speak),  and sign permanently for us in January (preferably), or in the summer.

If Loic Remy does that – he can certainly have a great career at Newcastle United, and we’ll all be very happy.

Why does that Turtles song of the late 1960s – Happy Together – suddenly come to mind? 😀

What do you think?

Its normal and happens all the time. A loan player impresses and does very well, before joining another club or returns back to his club. This is football. All loans are obviously made hoping they can be useful in their loan spell.

Once they are gone, we find someone who can be just as good if we can’t afford them and cycle continues.

Same goes for Remy. As long as he’s here, i hope he bangs the goals and gets us high. Once he’s gone, i hope we find another player who may do even better.

If he plays great and scores goals – we won’t have much chance of signing him.

If he plays rubbish and doesn’t score goals, we won’t want him.

Is there seriously going to be an article on this every day until the end of his loan in the summer?

The player has stated he is leaving his options open until the summer, I am sure QPR are happy for him to keep playing well and see what happens in the summer and from our point of view there is still a criminal charge hanging over him so we aint gonna make any decisions on anything until that is resolved.

Add to that nothing could even happen until January at the very earliest and it is just utterly pointless speculating every minute of every day.

Lets hope he keeps banging in the goals for the rest of the season, enjoys his football and we will see what happens – there is nothing else we can do, thats the risk you take when you get people on loan but in this case that was a good option given the situation.

Oh no! Newcastle have a player who is performing very well for us but we didn’t sign him on a permanent deal because he has a potential rape trial to resolve first! Aren’t we idiots!

Can you imagine the fallout if he is actually convicted of rape???

Sensible decision from the club (for once). No problem here. Move along…

there wasn’t any plans to buy him anyway even if he scored 40 goals this season he will simply not come to Newcastle,WHY! you ask well for one

MA won’t pay his wages of 60-80k a week

    2. the board and club show no ambition to go forward.

    3. he will miss out on Champions league or any other cups since this is the aim of many clubs but ours.

    4. he will laugh at MA & JFK for asking him to come and stay but only if he halves his current contract.

    5. he’s all about the money which is why he chose QPR instead of us.

I’d have to be present at the minutes (or at least hear a recording) to understand the kind of questions that NUST put to the club and how they were presented. Sadly I think everyone has their agendas at the moment and the club and fan groups are not working together properly. I’d love to see the club recruit an ex NUFC player to be the fans liaison officer at the club but I question whether the club would have the balls to do it and whether the ex player would have the balls to risk his reputation with the fans being destroyed! He’d have to be an intelligent person who understands business and is liked by the fans so he’s probably also a businessman by now and wouldn’t be interested sadly…

Aye, Beardo was a bit of a star and it’s a shame that the young players in his charge don’t seem to have picked up a lot from him.

Maybe that’s something that our world-renowned DoF (that’s Kinnear if you’d forgotten) will have his addressed in his report and recommendations for taking the club’s footballing side toward in leaps and bounds.

Now if only he could drag himself up from wherever he fell asleep!

The NUST made it clear in all statements they reserved the right to release the minutes, if NUFC missed the deadline to releases them on there website then that’s the unprofessional part

Why do all parties need to agree on the contents released, there the minutes not a press release, so the only reason the PR department have to be upset is because they wanted them edited, otherwise if they were releasing the full minutes they would be a carbon copy

Sorry but it feels very much like your deflecting blame when there is none to be deflected

I have seen conflicting articles on this in that we have a clause to buy for 6M in the summer and on the other hand we will be sending back to QPR with no option.

Can anyone confirm what is correct or has it not been confirmed?

We only have a week (from today) to find out whether the cops are going to proceed against Remy for the rape allegation or to release him with no further action being taken. If he is charged -the uncertainty of his future returns -rape trial (probably take place in 6-9 months) -will he be acquitted or found guilty. If guilty he will go to jail – rape cases can only be heard at the Crown Court -where the maximum sentence is life imprisonment.

Just catching up on the stories.

Santon may be off? If we got 10 million I’d snap their hands off. I don’t think he’s all that, he’s ok but not great. In dummet and Haidara I feel we have able replacements.

We may miss gomis? For 10 million I’d have been happy to miss him but below 5 million I’d like him. We need someone to hold the Bl up and bring others I’m to play and I hear this is his game. So I’d still like to see him here.

Remy off in summer? I feel we were always his stepping stone even if we’d got him when he went to qpr. I would t blame him. I’d be gutted though but he just probably wants to win things and no one could blame him for being ambitious. All we can ask I’d that he gives 100% for us while he’s here and he’s doing exactly that. He’s pure class!!

danuneek – easy to say with 20-20 hindsight. Imagine how disappointed we would all be if we had signed Cisse initially on loan and then bought him in the Summer? The same thing could happen with Reme, he is in a hot streak at the moment but the goals could dry up. If some team buys him for an eight figure fee and he flops we’ll all say “we dodged a bullet there”

With so much money up for grabs this season, mainly dependent on where a club finishes in the league we should have bought the lad!! Remy would have cost between £10m-£11m incl wages. His goals could be the difference between 17th and 10th which would more than pay for his 1 yr at the club if sent down, offer him a 3 year contract if convicted it won’t happen until end of season but surely we could have put in a get out clause (if convicted we can terminate contract). I think the likes of TDS fail to understand that we have a billionaire owner, he’s quite happy to take a big hit on advertising revenue but couldn’t take a punt on this lad because of the charge hanging over his head?

If he isn’t convicted then we are laughing, we would’ve had a striker who had doubled his value (Maybe more) but as with the tactics on the pitch we went for the safe option and didn’t want to take risks!! No risk no reward!! I’m willing to bet my house that he won’t be convicted and most certainly won’t be a Toon player come next season.

this has nothing todo with me hating pardew , but unless he was going to sign for one of the top 3 (man u man c chel) these 3 have a chance of winning things, Us and the rest of the clubs have only money or bright lights of the capital to offer
I think he was right to choose the money, me and I bet most of you would have done the same,,

look at our owner for fluking it up, if he dosnt sign in Jan

This is why Remy is getting so much concern from the toon faithful, he is what we’ve needed and will continue to need.

Yes we should enjoy him whilst we have him, but it’s difficult knowing that he will likely be off soon. Then it’s back to who will replace him?

OurToon…I can get my head around not buying him out right tbh. Yes it would be nice for the fans if they had took a gamble (although we’d be up in arms if he did get punished and our transfer kitty was gone), but that is an understandable and probably correct decision.

However, if there is no clause, then that is plain stupid. It may be more complex than that though, maybe they wanted a clause but QPR or Remy wouldn’t allow it?

    Only guesswork of course.

Remy is in hot form, let’s hope Pards doesn’t buckle to player pressure (like BA) and change the style of play/position of the lad otherwise we might have another Cisse on our hands!! Remember someone last week having a pop at Hougton and saying player power was rife under his regime, seems to me like nothing’s changed here!!

I’m sure Santon is the same age as Dummett, Santon is miles ahead of him in both ability and experience….people are quick to slate Santon but forget the lad is 22 and has been playing full back for around 4yrs, think as he gets older he will become better, will achieve more in football than Dummett!! People slate him for his mistakes and then call for Dummett to play, Dummett played against Liverpool and was at fault for Sturridge’s goal (2nd goal) standing still with his hand up rather than following the run of Sturridge, I’m pretty sure he was at fault against the Scum as well, that’s not very convincing now is it? I would work more on the tactics of the team, when we attack 1 FB sits and the other attacks, currently they both bomb forward and leave us exposed!! Haidara probably does deserve more game time but Dummett will never make it!!

I understand what you mean by the Remy situation (understanding) but we paid £2m or £3 to get the lad on loan, we are paying his wages for the duration of the loan, surely a club with a billionaire owner, a club who are in the top 20 clubs for revenue/turnover could have taken a £5m/£6m gamble?

He won’t be convicted this month the case will be set for the summer if there even is a case to be answered, but we should have put a clause in his contract that says if convicted his contract is terminated!! His goals this year will mean we stand to make money out of his deal whether on Perm or Loan basis. We could have thought out of the box with this one rather than play it safe….the clause of buying for next season means nothing, the lad isn’t willing to commit now….what makes anyone think he will commit at the end of the season

Of course it was right not to commit to Remy until things hanging over him are sorted out BUT, there are such things as conditional contracts that would allow us to have signed him on a permanent arrangement. I would like to think that friend Kinnear would have tried that but, well, it is Kinnear and maybe Remy didn’t want to commit – looking at a future somewhere other than……

On Dummett yes both mistakes came from CB position, but standing there with your hand in the air and letting the guy your marking run through is criminal no matter where you are playing!! Its basic stuff, only time will tell who makes it further as a player but both lads are the same age and Santon for me always be the better FB/player

The best way of keeping good players is for the team to do well. It seems a bit of an obvious statement but top players only want to play in top competitions (i.e. CL) and money only makes a difference to a degree,
My opinion of Remy is that if Arsenal do not buy and extra striker in Jan he will be off there come the summer. We know he likes the big lights of London, so if not Arsenal than he’ll end up at Spurs. He will never go back to QPR or go to a club outside the PL.
It’s a shame because he is right for us as a player.

As I said on the clause, I would only hope that if no clause has been included, it’s a case of QPR or Remy refusing, rather than the club not wanting…but who knows?

Maybe there is a clause…such is NUFC these days.

Being 24 hours late to release the minutes is hardly a big deal and hardly unprofessional. It’s not as if there was a need for a deadline.

Of course minutes need to be approved by all parties. Minutes are supposed to represent the facts of what was discussed at a meeting and different people might note down slightly different things or fail to note down specific details. The club arranged this so they should be the ones to release the minutes, with NUST and other sources having the right to republish them. Could you imagine if every person present released their version of the minutes??

You say I’m deflecting blame, I’m just trying to understand the issue. I’ve made it clear that I don’t think banning them is the right decision, but I can also see reasons why the club would be annoyed with NUST. You need to look at both sides to get to the right place.

I think people like you completely fail to understand that just because we have a billionaire owner, does not mean that we have a billionaire club..

The club is not taking a bit hit on advertising revenue, that is just garbage spin created by the anti-Ashley brigade.

It would be embarrassing to have signed another player with a potential criminal conviction and why waste millions on it? There are legal limitations on what clauses can be added in a contract too.

So if people at the club decided to sign Remy and he was then convicted, it would be a really bad PR situation and it’s the club who would take the hit for several million, not Mike Ashley.

    Club and owner are different!

I’ve been looking on the official site, to see if there are any set guidelines for the fans forum meetings.

    http://www.nufc.co.uk/page/Fans/FansForum/0,,10278~3462654,00.html

“Can Forum members be replaced before two years are up?

Yes. To ensure the integrity of the Fans Forum, the club can choose to reallocate a seat if a representative is not adequately fulfilling their responsibilities as outlined in the below Members Guide.

Should the club deem it necessary to replace a member, a meeting will take place between the club officials who sit on the forum and another representative will be drawn at random.

To ensure continuity, members will automatically be replaced if they miss more than one meeting per season or if they no longer satisfy the originally specified criteria (e.g. a season ticket holder who does not renew in their second season of tenure). The replacement member will retain their place only for the remainder of that seat’s original tenure.

Any member who is in breach of ground regulations or who is ejected or banned from the stadium will also be automatically replaced.”

Can anyone find these guidelines they refer to?

“responsibilities as outlined in the below Members Guide.”
