Ashley To Make Transfer Funds Available For January Targets

After Newcastle had a very poor transfer window last summer, and failed to sign any player permanently, it’s hardly surprising that transfer funds will be made available to Joe Kinnear and Alan Pardew by owner Mike Ashley in January, and the top requirement is to bring in another striker, especially since it’s likely that Loic Remy will leave us after his loan deal is up in the summer.

Mike Ashley – funds available for January window

And two strikers Newcastle will probably be very interested in, are former summer target Bafe Gomis of Lyon, who is now said to be available for just under £2M, with his contract running out in June.

That’s a lot less than the £9M Newcastle were willing to shell out for the player last summer, and would look like a bargain buy for Newcastle, but Lazio and other clubs are also interested in the player.

And news yesterday that former long term target 23 year-old Luuk de Jong’s move to Borussia Monchengladbach has not worked out, and he hasn’t played one game in the Bundelsiga this season, as it seems like coach Lucien Favre doesn’t  rate him.

Borussia will probably look to loan the player out in January, and Newcastle may be interested in that, if they have a first chance to sign the player permanently in the summer, but Newcastle will not pay the £12.8M the German club shelled out for him a short seventeen months ago.

And January will also be an opportunity for Director of Football to show he’s got some talent in the recruitment area by bringing in some good players to Newcastle, which is after all his new job at the club.

We also would have liked to see a defender signed in January, but with the top form being shown by Mike Williamson and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa in defense, and players like Paul Dummett and Massadio Haidara pushing for a start, and Mathieu Debuchy looking like one of the best right backs in the Premier League, we may be OK in that area now. 😀

If the lads keep playing like they have the last few games, then we should be in a decent position come January, and getting say two or three good players through the door will strengthen the squad further, and it will be the best squad we’ve had since the great Sir Bobby Robson left the club over nine years ago.

Howay The Lads!!

No1. Target = Remy on a permanent if possible. I’d be happy if we parted with 10mill + Cisse and Obertan for him.

    bills son

    once again your wrong,

the season we finished 5th every man and his dog new we needed at least 1 CD , as IMO that’s is where we were the weakest, they bought Curtis good , and Anita ,

now you say that these signings were lined up for the summer 2013 , but brought in early
they did that because they panicked , they thought they would miss out on all the money from the tv deal,
not one of them really bedded in well , we still shipped in goals for fun and scored less goals
they would have been better getting more players in the summer 2012 than jan 2013 ,

the fact the manager is crap don’t help

Actually there are improvements in pardew managing style
    1. no hoofball
    2. better spirit
    3. changing captain
    4. brave enough to drop big name players
    5. less excuses

Even I don’t like him but he showed improvements and after 10 games we are not that bad.
Could it be JK effect or MA putting pressures on him?

gomis at under 2 mil +luuk on loan would be awsome

ofc remy would be a must for me but in honestly i cant see it 🙁 so ince i believe is a good second to remy imo or zaha but again zaha would be a loan.

i’d love to see a cb also but again i cant see it happening.

i’m guessing that santon will go out for 8mil and we will get either gomis/tivornian for 2-3mil and ince for maybe 6mil then maybe a loan of zaha.

Croftus why would bringing in 2 woefully out of form CF’s be awesome?
They have over 20 games between them this season with 4 goals how is this adding to the squad?

With regard to strengthening the team, purely on the basis of what would make us better, stronger, more competetive, I would suggest that it depends far too much on how our Illustrious Owner is feeling personnally, on any given day.

There just doesnt seem to be a logical progression from identifying the need and obtaining the solution – the CB problem was identified over 2 years ago but the solution has been a patchwork of sticky plasters. That they have now hit upon a viable short term solution, forced on them by injuries, does not solve the problem.

Collo is now almost at the end of his carreer and wants to leave; Saylor is not good enough to replace Collo and is far to unstable to be a long-term kingpin of the back four. We are now heading into a situation where we will need to recruit 2 CB’s to remain competetive and thats never a great plan, bedding in 2 new players at the same time.

That we can continue to muddle through, with Collo, Williamson, Mbiwa, Saylor is not in doubt, but we have been lucky that only Saylor & Collo were injured at the same time – if Williamson had been injured we would be in a real mess!!

A proper, joined-up recruitment policy is needed for all areas of the squad and it is just not happening, to the detriment of the team in general!!

If that game on Sunday was played again 100 times in the same way we’d still have only won once out of 100. 14 saves by the keeper, the most ever in the PL. We got 3 pts but we were very very lucky to get that. It wasn’t long ago ppl were slating Tiote and his shocking performances (we should sell him blah blah) well he has been consistently good I’m pretty sure Cisse will be the same. Maybe I got a bit carried away with the Remy SITU yesterday by stating we should have bought the lad, at the moment I think he’s playing for himself (Like Adebayor when he joined Spurs on loan) but if signed his work rate etc. will most likely drop as all loan signings have either a point to prove or want to move on to something bigger, I’m quite happy for Ba to stay at Chelsea and don’t want him back here, couldn’t believe he was accomdated and the team neglected to suit him and his need to play up top!!

As for Pards being brave enough to drop big name players….like who? I personally think he’s never been keen on Benny and prefers his wingers to be grafters rather than creative. Cabaye (dropped by Ashley) earlier in the season said that we should ask JFK what happened in the summer (Arsenal bid etc) I’m willing to bet the lad was offered to clubs and Arsenal were the only takers, Man Utd had already signed Fellani Arsenal only got Ozil last minute, we touted the lad so we could fund new signings and he has come back into the team to prove a point to JFK, Pards and Ashley who have insisted that his head was turned (hence his performances, because we touted him) we didn’t play him to stop him from getting injured!!

We won’t get Remy in January, not a chance.

He will be looking to continue to do well for us, hopefully get to the world cup and then have a good tournament and see what offers he gets then.

HE may join us in the summer but he will want to keep his options open, he seems like a lad who wants to maximise his potential.

In my opinion he was honest when he said he never went to QPR for more money, claimed he was offered the same, true or not. I think he went there as he was guaranteed games and thought he’d get goals, then if they went down he had his release clause to get a move to bigger club, good chance for him to show his talent as a regular. (remember we still thought of cisse as our main man once ba left)

2 CB’s needed, 1x Winger (maybe 2) and defo 2x CF but not De Jong or Gomis. 1 CF who is big and strong (Benteke or Lukaku type)

Think we should have been on the look out for Caulker in the summer (missed out), Ashley Williams, Vermaelan would also be good choices but not sure they’d want to join.

Ince (Wing) Zaha can stay at Man Utd, we don’t need to develop other teams players, would rather play Sammy.

I’d probably go for the 2 Ayew’s though, one for midfield and other for wing and attack. Have no idea who else as ST though…..WONT HOLD MY BREATH THOUGH

But the 14 saves weren’t all unbelievable….there were many times in the game they were good saves but most prem keepers would have been annoyed to have let them in.

I’d say krul had to make 3 saves where you would say the player should have scored.

    1. deflection from free kick and follow up (most wouldnt have gotten to it)
    2. close range effort from erikson (bout 8 yards out), saved with his leg/foot
    3. similar effort from paulinho

All the others were very good saves but what you would expect a top keeper in the league to make.

Could also argue that if not for shola moving half a second too soon his offside goal could have stood and if remy had taken a better touch from the cabaye through ball down the left he’d have scored so we could have won 3-0.

ba did play left side for 4/5 months though

why wouldn’t a striker, who consistently scored when through the middle not ask to get back through the middle?

he never refused to play for us when out wide, only jumped ship for a bigger club and it was the manager who gave in and played him central (and he produced the goods)

Don’t get why people are annoyed by a striker who says he wants to play through the middle when it’s his best position and it is evident…as well as playing for the team on the left for half a season.

On the Remy SITU I think you give the lad to much credit, we only thought of Cisse as our main man because there wasn’t anyone else (Shola), doesn’t say much about our main man when he was thrown out onto the wing though. Ba played in every game & Remy knew he would be a starter as well, I seriously think your argument is flawed in that sense.

He saw QPR as a short term move and both clubs were going to be used as a stepping stone, why not the one that pays more!! Lets not sugar coat this!!

luke de yong we were all raving about him being a possible signing…..hes had 17 months in germany and hes gone backwards…… deal with poss to buy if he hits form…he will be gagging to get on the pitch in wourld cup year.
toite was not so good last year and now hit form
cisse was fantastic first season he came form could return but how much longer, everyball he hit was in ,how do you go from that to his current form.
bafe gomis not a fan, even at 2mil hes not the best we can get so no to him
luuk on loan would be a no brainer
baf gomis no, please spend on a prolific finisher or winger who wades in with goals
ince at 4 mil isnt such a bad deal
i really think we are going to see 3-5 players in jan with 3-4 going the other way, mav, guti, gosling and taylor or collo will go oh and pardew to be replaced by marino unknow the bloke from chelsea who we beat 2-0 lol

just going off the remy interview

We all wanted cisse back central and it was likely that would happen, we also had shola who pardew would play there as well.

at QPR he had the choice of wide or central, he said himself QPR was the choice as he’d get central role 100% if he wanted it and that would likely get him more goals.

Goals were what he needed to get the move to an arsenal/spurs/liverpool etc, not just good wide play.

He said himself money was no different, not sure if true or not but that’s what he said.

I was under the impression that the Remy money (transfer and wages) had already been put aside that was the reason we would have gone into an overdraft facility if wed signed anyone else in the summer? He should have been made sign a pre agreement with that if all went well that it would just be a fromality that hed sign on at the end of the season before the loan happened but knowing JFK and NUFC we cocked it up again.

I’ve noticed most the strikers we’ve chased and missed have gone on to be flops: Erdinc, Gameiro, De Jong, Gomis, Ruiz, Van Wolfsinkel.

I don’t think Carr is any good at spotting strikers. This might sound like heresy, but hopefully Kinnear can do a little better. Although I think his knowledge doesn’t go far beyond the premier league.

Let’s take this with a pinch of salt.

No matter how much Ashley old, were still left with Kinnear to cut the deals – if he’s well enough to do so as and when required!

However, Ashley may have the sense to have somebody go along with Kinnear, just in case he needs a little help now and again.

Hey go, here we go…… Yawwwwnnn

because i think we remember how good luuk was dont we ?
a lot of strikers lose form inc shearer who went 13 games and no goals but i wouldnt have turned down the chance of signing him based on those 13 games of that season !
luuk is what 23/24 ? has proven record but lost favour this season and a loan move would not hurt anything and besides he prob still has a way better record than cisse atm.

gomis is a shola replacement with his strength but like was stated here 3 goals in 9 games vs shola’s

thats how imo it would improve our squad.
