It’s Not About One Player – It’s About The Team

8:39 am, Friday, November 15th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 11 Comments

Fabricio Coloccini is very likely to be back in central defense a week tomorrow, when the lads will try to get three league wins in a row, when we take on Norwich City at St. James’ Park.

Fabricio Coloccini – back against Norwich?

In Fab’s absence through injury, Check Tiote got the nod over Yohan Cabaye to lead the side, and he’s done a good job of that, and he’s  played great in the last several games, with Newcastle starting to look a good side, and especially robust and resolute in defense – for a change.

Cheick talked in the local papers today about Fab possibly coming back:

“I don’t know what will happen now Coloccini is back, but Colo is still the captain of Newcastle.” “He was injured and the manager chose me to take over but if Colo is fit and comes back into the team he will be captain.”

“Even if he does get it back I think I can still play like I have been since I’ve had that responsibility.  “I think the most important thing is I do my best on the pitch for the team and play well.”

“And if I don’t have the armband it doesn’t matter to me.”  “It’s not about one player it’s about the team and we have to play together like we have a play as one.

“Then we will put ourselves in a good position to win games like we have done against Tottenham and Chelsea.”

Cheick has been a bit of a revelation since he was appointed captain, and it’s not many Newcastle captains that can say they led the side out in successive games, when we beat Chelsea and Tottenham and didn’t even concede a goal – thanks Tim!

Check Tiote – in great form recently

The Ivorian’s play is close that what it was in the first season he was at the club three years ago, and it seems he’s back to his very best form again.

And if Colo does come back against Norwich, which seems likely with Debuchy suspended, we want to see Tiote continue the great form he’s been in so far this season.

What do you think?

Comments always welcome.

    Jail

I don’t think MA made any decisions during that time, it was Llambias and he was sacked because of it.
When there is MD in charge, owner is not making any decision, that’s what MD is for.

    Jail,

The squad that got into trouble last season was virtually the same squad that finished 5th. Nobody expected the loss of form, injuries, suspensions and Europa to affect us in the way it did. You – rightly – said we should have signed players after the 5th to kick on and consolidate. Nobody forecast that by not doing that – and keeping all our top players – we would nearly get relegated.

Criticising with the benefit of hindsight is easy.

And the fact is, in Jan the club addressed it by signing five players – and they are getting better by the game.

Abeid seems to be doing quite well in Greece, playing 8 out of 11 games for Panathinaikos and socred 1 goal.

Then the idiots made the same mistake that their end of season review highlighted as one of the reasons for the slump. Unforgivable.

    No real signings and JFK.
    Not clever by Ashley.

    once again your wrong,

the season we finished 5th every man and his dog new we needed at least 1 CD , as IMO that’s is where we were the weakest, they bought Curtis good , and Anita ,

now you say that these signings were lined up for the summer 2013 , but brought in early
they did that because they panicked , they thought they would miss out on all the money from the tv deal,
not one of them really bedded in well , we still shipped in goals for fun and scored less goals
they would have been better getting more players in the summer 2012 than jan 2013 ,

the fact the manager is crap don’t help

we are actually 9th in the league and 4 points away from 4th. I thought most people here asking for mid table or top 10 finish?

Might as well asking to win the title with all the complaints, then you can complaint that we are only in top 10 so far.

And in the WBA game, everybody knows Debuchy is back, Colo keeps his place and Mapou gets dropped. That’s tough on him because he is versatile enough to play RB as well as CB. If he weren’t so adept, Pards might have to wait until Mapou has a rick before reintroducing Captain Colo..

Pardew would be a utter FOOOL to drop Mapou – a guy who has helped us shut out Man City (during regulation time), Spurs and Chelsea – for Coloshitty : a guy who helped us concede 3 against Hull City, 4 againts ManCity and many more atrocious defensive results over the past two seasons
