Pardew – He’s Knocking On The Door In Training

10:13 am, Friday, November 15th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 21 Comments

Alan Pardew has today heaped praise on Vurnon Anita and his professionalism at Newcastle, and every time he’s played for Newcastle this season he’s looked very good, but he’s not complaining to the manager about not starting, and simply continues to work his socks off in training, which as impressed the Newcastle manager.

Vurnon Anita – has impressed manager with his professionalism

This is what Alan said today about Anita in the local press:

“It’s not good banging on my door saying you should be playing.” “I need to see it on that training ground.” “He’s one of our best at doing that.”

“That’s the best way to be, because your manager is going to respect that.”  “Therefore, when his time comes, I’ll stick with him because of that honesty and that commitment to the group.”

“It pays you in other ways.” “He’s knocking on the door in training, and trust me, that’s where you want to do it.”  “We’ve looked at Vurn’s stats in training and in his work, and he’s improved physically since he’s been here.”

“I think he’s getting to grips with the Premier League, and he’s pushing hard now.” “That’s what we want. He’s pushing hard to start.” “At the minute, Cabaye and Cheick are back to their very best, so he’s got a tough job.”

“That’s a really good area for us.”

Anita is just 24, and it’s good to know that the stats have shown he’s an improved player since he arrived at Newcastle, and it’s maybe not too surprising that Vurnon is the best passer of the ball at Newcastle with  an 87.2% success rate (approximately).

How many times do you see this lad give the ball away – not many times and therefore he’s a great player to bring on to see out a game.

Vurnon played 37 times last season for Newcastle and he’s made 11 appearances so far this season, so he’s getting some reasonable playing time at the club – but he will keep Tiote, Cabaye and Sissoko on their toes, and any drop n form could see Anita come in as a starter.

There’s no doubt that Vurnon is doing great this season, and he seems to be yet another good buy made by Chief Scout Graham Carr, and the last six players we have bought, including the five Frenchman in January look to be great buys for the club.

And add to that Loic Remy as a loan signing, and he’s been phenomenal.

Things could be looking up for  Newcastle this season.

Comments welcome.

not quite sure why he was dropped this past few weeks but performances in the team have improved so all is justified.

would anyone try him at right back against Norwich? With Debs suspended and Haidara and Dummy injured someone is going to be playing out of position anyway

  • 3 Rainrix // Nov 15, 2013 at 10:21 AM

The sad fact is unless sissoko cabaye or tiote get injured or suspended anita isn’t going to get a start, regardless of how good he plays or how badly the aforementioned 3 play.

not a bad shout actually, saves disruption to the rest of the back 4 (mbiwa/santon can say in current position) and like you say no youngster needs to play wrong side.

    Rainrix

at one point i’d have agreed but we have seen cisse and ben arfa dropped, colo not walking straight in…so he may get his chance.

    Transfer Sage

The 4/5 mths you mention were the best 4/5mths under pards management, the team played really well, we had shape. Ba played out wide and through the middle whilst at West Ham and at other clubs throughout his career. The lad spat his dummy out because he wasn’t getting all the goals, sorry but for me the team comes first. Pards said that Ba wanted to play through the middle…. so he played Cisse out wide to accommodate Ba, we accommodated a lad who had no intention of staying the whole season with us, I don’t blame him for leaving but if he wanted to play through the middle we should have told him that he must sign a new deal & take that clause out!! Instead Ba left & we were stuck with another unhappy CF who had for the first time in his career played out wide in a front 3….13 goals in 14 games….change formation play 2 up top (that’s not working) let’s throw him out all to suit and accommodate a lad who had no intention of staying!! RUBBISH to defend that TS

barkel @2 – I would worry about his lack of height – I suspect the oppostion would pull the strikers wide and play high balls – it would be a legitimate tactic against a small full back.

Think Haidara is a better choice to come in, move Santon at RB….if we don’t play Haidara now then what kind of message does that send to him? Anita has clearly stated his best position is in Midfield, having a makeshift right side would be awful, Sissoko RW Anita RB when both are CM’s and CAN DO A JOB rather than specialise in other roles

  • 8 Rainrix // Nov 15, 2013 at 10:33 AM

Sage….. I’d like you to be right but i just don’t see it. Pards really seems to like that midfield 3. I don’t think anita and sissoko are fighting for a place due to sissoko being converted to a winger so its basically a battle for him to take tiotes or cabayes place. Tiotes not going to be dropped at all, and i doubt cabaye is either.

  • 9 cyprus // Nov 15, 2013 at 10:35 AM

Cabaye is 27, Anita 24. In 3 years Anita will be better than Cabaye. So…. if Cabs were to leave (don’t weep, that’s clearly his intention), with that 15 mil. we can buy 2 players, one young CF with potential (like AC-style, we lack a target man) and one Bellamy-style winger. Sorted.

In fairness last season anita played a few games at full back and did really well, much better than he was doing at CM. That being said i think you can guarantee colo will come back in. Santon will likely be shipped to RB seeing as he is a right footer. Mbiwa will go to LB, which in fairness he did really well there against arsenal last season.

If we had to field a team purely from players who came through our youth team:
    Krul
    Orr
    Dummett
    Saylor
    Hughes
    Sammy
    Fergie
    Vuckic
    Troisi
    Shola
    Carroll

    SUBS
    Forster
    Chopra
    Edgar
    Ramage
    Armstrong
    Good
    Campbell

I thought it was interesting anyway…

  • 12 cyprus // Nov 15, 2013 at 10:38 AM

Sissoko a winger is a bit of a stop gap… HBA in that situation (with goalie to beat v. spurs) would’ve probably executed the goalie. I still see Sis as a Toure – Viera.

  • 13 cyprus // Nov 15, 2013 at 10:40 AM

    Rainrix,
Anita FB? When there seems tiny and vulnerable. No, that’s not his position. Think Mata – Cabs, that kind of thing.

  • 14 Rainrix // Nov 15, 2013 at 10:45 AM

Cyprus… I know that, its just some people were suggesting playing him there, i was just mentioning he did well at FB last season when he had a few games at LB and RB. I wouldn’t play him there personally as its not his best position as we’ve seen.

    our toon

    Hardly rubbish to defend it.

Ba got goals, very good record at hoffenheim and west ham, then continued that with us as a central player…he moved out left to accomodate cisse even after he had gotten 16 goals through the middle first half of the year.

Ba may have said he preferred central and looked unhappy but he still played half a season on the left and worked hard in that role.

The following season when he was back in the middle he scored again so justified the decision to play him there.

It was weak management to give in without getting a new contract sorted (pardew and ashley between them), not ba’s fault….the lad played where he was told.

So, like i said, not rubbish to defend it at all.

    cyrus

anita spent a good season as left back for ajax

not somewhere i’d like him often but one off be ok

  • 17 barkel // Nov 15, 2013 at 10:46 AM

our toon – that’s what I’m thinking will happen but it seems like a lot of disruption. As far as I remember Anita hasn’t had a bad game for us no matter what position he plays and he did play a fair bit at RB at Ajax

  • 18 Our Toon // Nov 15, 2013 at 10:51 AM

I think Sissoko can be a Toure type of player more than a Viera type of player. He will eventually play through the middle, not to sure what will happen with Vurnon he certainly will never be better than Cabaye who again I believe we must keep at all costs, he controls the MF is very creative and has better vision than Vurnon. Anita is good at ball retention, short passes and sometimes probing passes, but compared to Cabaye he doesn’t bring us goals or assists!! Most teams have a spine within the squad which they would never break!! Krul and Cabaye are 2 of the key players, benny can become other key but we need one for CB and ST position though (not Incl Remy…He isn’t our player)

  • 19 Our Toon // Nov 15, 2013 at 10:57 AM

Anita played FB in a very poor league though, technically a good league though but he won’t have faced many long balls being punted toward him which would instantly be the tactic if he occupied that position!! Frank De Boer said that Anita is a DM and played him in his natural position, he is someone who knows alot about that type of role!!

  • 20 toonbrother // Nov 15, 2013 at 10:17 PM

Hope he comes in for the Bushy. Coloshityys first team days are over. Hopefully

Used to watch Anita a lot when he was playing for Ajax >

My favourite now playing for Ajax is Lasse Schonen, attacking midfielder, and would be a superb signing for us?

Ajax would not sell their best player to us though / but ?
