Italian Club Preparing January Bid For Newcastle Star

There is news today coming out of Italy that Roma may be serious in their attempts to take Yohan Cabaye to the Italian club in January, with Italian daily Corriere dello Sport reporting they are getting a bid ready for the January transfer window.

Newcastle United v Liverpool - Barclays Premier League

Yohan Cabaye – Newcastle playmaker wanted in Italy

It’s not the first time Roma have been linked with the French playmaker in the last couple of months, and Cabaye’s former coach at Lille, Rudi Garcia knows all about Yohan’s capabilities, and Rudi has made a great start at Roma and has them one point clear of Italian Champions Juventus after 12 games played.

Cabaye played for Garcia for a number of seasons at Lille, and they own the French title in 2011, and it was then that Newcastle brought Cabaye to Newcastle for a paltry €5M, which was the release clause in his Lille contract.

Garcia has credibility with the Roma management, but they will need to come up with around £20M if they want to sign Yohan this summer, after Arsenal’s £11M bid in August was flatly rejected by Newcastle.

And if Yohan does move to Italy in January, which we seriously doubt, then Joe Kinnear will need to have another top midfielder lined up for the Tyneside club – just in case.

Cabaye has played 83 times for Newcastle with 13 goals and 13 assists, and he’s been in good form this season.

Comments welcome.

Continue to shop at the Shola level?Last three strikers bought – Ba, Cisse, Goffran + we all but signed Remy and now we’ve taken him on loan. How is that shopping at the Shola level?

Once he decided to put in an appearance his performances have been improving.

He’s still a long way off being the commanding dominating midfield general I thought he was going to be two years ago.

    Bills,
Ba is gone, Cisse wants to go and Gouffran as much as I like him has five goals in 26 appearances and you keep talking about signing Remy, we failed in that department and look likely to fail again.

“+ we all but signed Remy nd now we’ve taken him on loan”

Bill’s there’s no such thing as “Almost” signing someone, you either sign them or you don’t, but yeah we have taken him on loan, we’ll put him in the shop window for QPR to sell for a profit and we won’t even be in the running for the lad as far bigger and far better run clubs will come in for the lad

Ba wasn’t and and Remy probably won’t be capable of retention with our current wage structure.

We are not really capable of attracting and retaining successful world class strikers with our wage policy are we ?

I would not class Gouffy as in that class of international striker, and Cisse is off form at present so his star has waned somewhat – and his capability for wage demands.

The Shola reference was meant to be an ironic joke about international quality strikers – after all Shola is an international striker with his country now going to the World Cup. He might have three cracking games, win the Golden Boot and suddenly be worth more than a bit extra
Irony loses its edge when you have to explain it – sorry it was too oblique.

The original question to Jail was about our rigid wage policy being reviewed in the light of the massive new money from the new TV deal – which will continue to out inflationary pressure on player transfer and wages.

Perhaps Gomis will come in January but I expect a sale or three in the summer. Cabaye, Krul, Santon might followed by a major influx of cheap new signings.

I expect Ashley to make a small profit.
So no TV money will be spent … that will mysteriously disappear into the multitude of accounts and companies set up by Ashley’s accountants to maximise Ashley’s income.

there must be at least ten strikers in the championship who are better than shola & possibly even in our reserves. if he’s only there to hold the ball up and not take shots or create goals then why not put a defender up there like collocini?

I can’t see much changing next year even with the massive up-turn in revenue that’s gonna be coming into the club.

Ashley has two choices – Reinvest the additional TV revenue into the club for new players, wages etc etc

Pocket the money and simply continue with how we are being run today?

It isn’t our wage policy that stops us from attracting world class strikers its the fact that we aren’t a top Champs Lge team. That’s where world class strikers go. Suarez wanted to leave Lpool for that reason.

    Wrong.

Remy wasn’t considered world class in France thats why he was available for £8M.

But it was a big mistake by the club not to get him signed once a fee and wages had been agreed. If Remy had signed and peformed as he is doing now the mood on here might be very different.

I think Llambias bolloxed that signing up and its one of the reasons why he’s gone.

On the subject of Zaha, I just can’t see why it would be a bad thing. The bad thing would be if he did come and was not played on merit but because of an agreement with ManU. But that makes no sense whatsoever.
If he comes and is selected on merit then I would welcome another English player in the squad – one more loanee wouldn’t be excessive.
After all, we loaned Milner to Villa and he liked it so much that he decided to stay so it could lead to something more permanent.

What really winds me up no end on these pages are those incessant comments about us operating at some supposed level of under ambition because we are not in a position to keep our best players?
Apart from Barcelona, Real, Man City and Chelsea who else can keep their top players if the right bid comes in? Arsenal (Van Persie)? Spurs (Modric, Berbatov, Carrick, Bale)? Everton (Rooney, Fellani)? Man Utd (Ronaldo)? Of course the list is endless.
Why can’t people just except that there is a small elite group that will always buy the best and the rest of us just have to keep producing and developing players in order to survive? If Cabaye goes then I’m sure Ashley will get the best possible deal and someone will either step up to the plate or we will buy someone in.
Get real and accept the reality because I’m fed up with these constant comments. To put my argument in perspective refer back to the blog on the sale of Andy Carroll?

Apparently we bid for this player to show our ambition, but funnily enough it was announced a few months later that we couldnt afford a permanent striker.

Every player at every single club in world football has his price, a fee that would get the club he plays for to agree to sell, thats not in question, were we fall down every single time is that we never reinvest money at the right time.

Personally I have no issue if Cabaye is sold in January and the money from that sale is them ploughed back into the squad to improve us and add strength, but as always we hold off until we are in the situation where we have no other option other than to spend and thats whats wrong with Ashley and co

NUFC were consistently one of the elite, most ambitious, world class player signing, title and trophy winning clubs in the Prem until Ashley bought the club.

Thats the way it appears anyway.

    Isn’t Colo on between 60 to 80k a week?

If I remember rightly, Ba was offered something like 70k a week to stay, the same with Enrique.

A wage structure inside of 80k a week sounds about right to me, once you go above that kind of money, it just becomes silly, and cons outweigh the pros… risk of injuries to players on big deals etc.

I look at Vincent Kompany always pulling up with injuries after his 250+k per week deal, the waste just seems distasteful and deplorable. I am not fan of Ashley, but I think the club keeping players under 80k per week is the right way to go.

No complaints about our wage structure from me.

    Jail,

    Ok, ok,

We are a rotten to the core club, run by a lying fat pi$$ taking tight unambitious owner, who is touting our top players for sale so he can trouser the profit and wallow in mid to low table mediocrity.

And we won’t be signing anyone in January or if we do it’ll be loans or signings of Carlton Cole calibre.

And, of course, all of our top players who have been fooled into signing for us are desperate to get away and earn some decent dosh.

I’ll have missed a few negs out but you and others will put me right.
