Newcastle Linked With Top Tottenham Playmaker

The January transfer window opens in just over six weeks time,  and it’s hardly surprising that Newcastle are now being linked with several players, but exactly who we are after is always difficult to work out.

moussa dembele

Moussa Dembele – unhappy at Tottenham?

However there’s news coming out of Belgium that Newcastle are interested in Tottenham midfielder Moussa Dembele, the 26 year-old Belgium International central midfielder.

Dembele joined Tottenham Hotspur at the end of August last year, when Spurs paid the £15M release clause in his Fulham contract.

And just let’s say if that’s anywhere near the amount Tottenham would want for his services,  there’s no way Newcastle would be interested in this player.

Moussa is not a regular at the moment at Spurs, and has started only two of the last five games, and he is concerned that if he doesn’t play regularly this season, he may not make the Belgian squad for the World Cup in Brazil next summer.

Newcastle, Aston Villa, Southampton, Cardiff and Swansea are said to be interested, but Newcastle’s interest could be purely speculation, and that would be nothing new.

Dembele had this to say to Belgian newspaper Nieuwsblade:

“I can not be satisfied with it, of course, I just want to play as many games.” “The coach explained that he makes a tactical choice, he wants more defensive players in midfield.”

This seems pure speculation that he may seek a move in January, but it seems premature, and Dembele would do well to keep his head down and try to get back into Tottenham’s side, and with the London side in the Europa League, there’s plenty of chances to impress Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas.

Moussa has played 52 times for Belgium, and we think he’s just too expensive for Newcastle, even if he did become available in January.

Well that’s unless we sell Yohan Cabaye in January for £20M to some club – like Roma for instance.

What do you think?

I sat on the fence last summer and kept quiet regarding any signings, I didn’t think we would but blind hope was thinking he just might surprise us, but I am catergorically stating for the record that we will not sign a first team player this January.

    Never going to happen.
It may, however, be a reflection of some deeper issues within the Spurs squad who are underperforming badly. Perhaps they actually signed too many players in the summer and this has unsettled the core of the team. Don’t know what Defoe has done wrong not to get more starts, for example.

Levy is a tough negotiator and will therefore want at least the 15 million they paid out. This therefore isn’t going to happen regardless if we get 20 million for Cabaye ( unlikely, given that the best offer we got in the summer was 11).
Ashley likes to cover the initial transfer fee plus wages for the full contract as well as pocket a couple of million as payment towards the debt, we’ll be looking at a more modest outlay of around 6 million at best for a Cabaye replacement

Defoe is gash, misses lots of opportunities and goes missing a lot according to my Spurs mates, they’ll be glad to get some money for him to put towards Remy!!

If Cabaye was to leave then Dembele would seem like quite a decent replacement. If the club are making tentative enquiries then it would seem very sensible to me – maybe JFK is actually doing something 🙂

I’d value him now at about 8 or 10 mill so if they wanted cabaye they could get him in a swap plus 12 mill. I’d not be too worried if we were swapping a player who wants to leave for a player who wants to come and play.

Forget Dembele too expensive but would like to see us have a go for Shane Long who would be a better option to use than Stroller. Zaha could be a useful addition on loan as well.

He is another lazy millionaire footballer more interested in what goes on outside football than on the pitch thats why he is being frozen out at spurs. We dont need him.

You have to wonder how many attacking midfielders Tottenham actually need.

And to think they missed out on Willian too, so have less than they originally wanted.

I am not surprised players are struggling for form, way too many chefs. AVB will be lucky if he knows his best side half way into the season, he still doesn’t even know what his best striking option is yet, and he only has two strikers to pick from.
