Hughton Had Massive Influence On Me – He’s A Great Guy

Newcastle will soon be getting ready to welcome Chris Hughton and his Norwich City side on Saturday afternoon, and it’s a game Newcastle will be expected to win against a team that has been struggling so far this season.

Chris Hughton – while at Newcastle

And Mike Williamson has been interviewed in the local press today, and he has talked about the manager who signed him from Portsmouth for a measly £1M almost four years ago, when Newcastle were in the Championship.

This is what Mike said today about Chris:

“He had a massive influence on me and he’s such a great person, a great manager,”said Williamson. “He has all the attributes to get Norwich up the league and progress.”

“He is a great guy, easy to approach. He was somebody the players wanted to play for. We had a lot of characters in the group when he was in charge, but the overall consensus was that we wanted to get a result for the manager because he was such a nice guy.”

“You could always speak to him. It was a good environment to be in.”

Chris of course got Newcastle promoted in 2010, with one of the biggest points totals ever in the Championship – 106 points and 30 wins in the 46 games.

Chris in fact has some of the attributes that made Bobby Robson so super successful as a manager – Bobby was a good guy who players could always talk to – and the players wanted to win for him.

Chris Hughton with Championship trophy – May 2010

We expect Chris to get Norwich up the league table this season, but it may have to wait until after Saturday, because we hope our lads are becoming professional enough to get all 3 points on Saturday.

That would make three league wins in a row, which we never achieved last season, and if the lads can do that then Newcastle fans will be flying.

Comments welcome.

Nice guys finish last, I thought Chris did a great job in the championship simply by getting the players to play for him.
Many pundits, managers and fans made the point that anyone could have gotten that squad promoted but many have tried and failed, you just have to look at floppy chops at QPR to see that it’s not as easy as just having the best squad.
We were doing okay once promoted but afraid the writing was on the wall when he didn’t hang out with Fatty / Llambias and discuss tactics etc
Hope he continues to do well at Norwich albeit only after Sat

It’s funny how the last year’s whipping boys i.e. Shola and Willo are suddenly becoming the lynch pins of the team.
Any predictions for the England score tonight – I think it might be a draw but with some goals, say, 2 – 2.

And while I think on what about the French game – I think Ukraine will shut up shop and it could well be a goalless draw.

Diggedydaws – I would agree if Germany were playing their first team but it looks like they are giving some other players a try so we might have a chance.

Chris Hughton can hold his head up high as he was nothing other than good for this club and was treated with complete disregard and disrespect.

Without question he will get the reception he deserves when he walks out at SJP

Houghton’ll get a good reception, just hope the lads get the right result isall!

Regardless of who plays up front start trying to re-integrate Cisse and Benny, for the sake of goal scoring options.

I’d love us to be in a position to rotate our forwards through choice and not neccesity!

not sure this huge fear of germany…they aren’t that terrifying.

Some good players but remember this england team has beaten brazil and spain in friendlies in the past year or so.

We may not be exciting or as technical but we are still a good side and no pushovers at all.

Aren’t Germany basically naming there B team?

    Sage
The fear comes from the fact that national friendly teams are completely different from the national teams in competition
Germany are fantastic when in full comp mode along with teams like Spain Brazil etc
England seem to maintain the same level through comps and friendlies

Germany, even with their B team, i reckon if they’re on their game, they’ll smash england 3-1.

5 mins in and I remember immediately why I hate watching football on IT
The commentators are complete fcuking idiots
Andy Townsend “Rues and schmelzer will have to make sure they work well together tonight and build a chemistry or they could be vulnerable”
Aye Andy they only play in the same team week in week out

Just to keep the stats right Ed, we did get 30 league wins in 2009-10, but not 106 points, or we’d have been undefeated! In fact we got 102 points.
