If Newcastle want to bring in a striker during the January transfer window, there’s certainly players either to be signed permanently, or are available to come in on loan through the end of the season.
Ola Toivonen – available in January for just £2.5M
One of them is Dutch striker Luuk de Jong on loan, and another is PSV Eindhoven striker Ola Toivonen, and it seems he wants to leave PSV, with his contract running out next June.
There was news a few weeks back that PSV were hopeful of getting the 35 times capped Swedish International (6 goals) into signing a new deal, but it would appear he is open to moving on.
This is what Ola has told the Swedish press about a possible move:
“It looks good, it expires in June,” “We have had a meeting with the club and I told them how I feel. It was an open and honest talk.”
Newcastle, Norwich and Fulham have all been told that Ola is available in January and the fee is only around
£2.5M, so that would be a decent deal for Newcastle.
We’ll have to wait and see if Director of Football Joe Kinnear is now more proficient in bringing in players to the cub in the upcoming January transfer window.
We hope so.
Comments welcome.

Comment #1Strange player! His ability isn’t all that but his work rate, teamwork and attitude mean the fans would probably take to him the way they have with Gouffran!
Id say hes a step up from Ameobi but Toivonen would never boss the italian team the way shola did last night! So frustrating, remember watching him do that against man utd when we won 3-0 a few years back too! Abilities definately there, just wish he could bring it every game

It’s a Shane for shola. He is fantastic on his day and has genuine quality. Injuries have hampered him a lot.
But like most players, what separates average from top class isn’t always ability but consistently applying that ability.

Comment #3Funny that Shola now as much if not more chance of winning a world cup medal than Gerrard / Lampard / Rooney etc
Hopefully the prospect of WC footy in the summer will mean he puts in a shift every time he goes on the pitch for toon this season (albeit for the 60 mins Pards is giving him)
Bet he thinks he’s dreaming that he scored that goal last night as well as a great assist!!
At least it gives us another interest in the world cup

Comment #4TS- Yea definately agree! Remember Shola playing for 2 seasons (under roeder i think) needing an op but playing through it! Has definately effected his game, he used to be full of running with a bit of pace!
Met him a couple times when he was at stoke, i was a photographer for their local paper in their promotion season, seemed a really nice guy!

Comment #5Hed be worth Nigeria taking out there just for his penalty taking ability to be honest! Think hes suited to euro and international football! Its slower and mire technical which suits his game! He always plays well when we’ve been in europe, remember him dominating a barcelona defense many moons ago! What i will say for shola, when hes played, the striker he plays next to usually scores alit, he linked well with carroll and with ba when played together!
Cheeky bet for shola to get the golden boot in hope that nigeria become the first african nation to fulfil potential in a world cup

Comment #8Shane Long, Luuk de Jong, Ola Toivonen…. How do we know if any of them are any good to us in the Prem? Why can’t we just get Remy signed??

Comment #9Love your optimism Ed, but most of us know if we’re in the top ten come January we’ll not be signing anybody.
Why would they if top ten was their target at the start of the season.

Comment #10Toivonen might have work rate, but as a Swede who has followed him the latest year I can say that he is simply not good enough. NUFC should never pay 2.5 for him, he will not contribute anything to our club.

Comment #11Belfast, that has to be a major concern to us all.
With their stated aim of top ten and little interested in distractions caused by FA & League Cup, why spend money if you are confident of achieving your objectives?
Hopefully they will realise that players like Cabaye are far more ambitious to be satisfied with mid-table mediocrity – I think this was clearly demonstrated when the Arse made a bid for him in July/August. He was obviously keen to move to a club who actually compete on all fronts.
I dont think it will be long before the likes of Debuchey, Sissoko, Anita etc all decide that staying with us is going to do little for any ambitions they may have to actually WIN something. I dont expect Cabaye to start next season with us.
Its a sad state of affairs, thats for sure. Lack of intrest in achieveing success has never been a NUFC trait, from as far back as I can remember.

Have to agree, he’s looked very poor when ever I’ve seen him and don’t think he’s adapt to the prem at all

Comment #13The worrying thing is more the Luuk De Jong situation. If he’s not getting a game in the Bundesleague, will he be adapted to the Prem? Physically, they are very similar in terms of play. If we did get him on loan, would he just be another Andreas Andersson? Given the cost touted in the rumours, I would be very loathe to pay a loan fee.

Comment #14A top ten finish was NOT the stated aim AFAIR
Top ten was the MINIMUM achievement – below that and AP would get the boot.
Am I wrong?
Any quotes?
Or is it just the neggers repeating incessant misrepresentations?

Comment #15Finishing top 10 is a minimum target that has been set by Ashley for Pardew imo.
I don’t see that as unambitious I see it as a realistic way of measuring whether Pardew is doing his job with the squad he has.
We signed Cisse when we were top six in Jan so I don’t get why some of you think its a defo nobody will be signed if we are top ten this Jan.

Didn’t see your post before I posted mine.
The misrepresentation of the top ten aim is the same as the misrepresentation of every player has his price.
Ashley doesn’t sell players as soon as he can make a decent profit and he made the biggest signing of any Prem club in the Jan that we were top six.
The neggers bend everything to suit themselves.

Comment #17As Laurille I am Swedish, I don’t see that this guy would add anything.
Don’t see the value in signing this guy, Shola does a better job and can bully defenses on his day or when we play to his strength.
Ola…just a signing for the sake of signing someone. It was made pretty clear in the summer that we don’t operate like that anymore.
