Newcastle Linked With Mali International Striker

There are reports coming out of France that Newcastle may be interested in Bordeaux 6’4″ striker, Cheick Diabate, who we were first interested in back in May of 2011, according to our records.

Cheick Diabate – Newcastle interested in Mali striker

Diabate played against us twice in the Europa League last season, and scored a goal in the away leg for the French side, and Cheick played with Newcastle forward Yoan Gouffran while at Bordeaux, so if Newcastle are really interested in the player, Yoan will know exactly what his strengths and weaknesses are.

And of course, Yoan has been a tremendous success at Newcastle, since he arrived on Tyneside last January.

The 25 year-old 31 times capped Mali International, is said to be available for around £5M, so that’s another option to the many available to Joe Kinnear to bring in a striker this January.

Newcastle can afford £5M for a striker – well we think we can. 😀

Check has scored 6 goals in 13 appearances for the French club this season, and earlier in his career he was loaned out to Ajaccio (30 appearances 14 goals) and Nancy, where he played only three times.

While at Bordeaux, he’s scored 37 goals in 91 appearances, and will give Newcastle something different up front – height and heading ability.

So we think this player could be a reasonable buy in January for Newcastle at around £5M.

What do you think?

We could use a big target man. Shola is doing fine right now but if we want to have a go at it then Benteke would be perfect with Remy. Cant and won’t get Benteke so someone with similar height and power will do

As long as it doesn’t turn in to hoof ball again. If you’re going for a target man he has to be mobile and skilful not just an old fashioned battering ram with everything going aerial.

As for Norwich surely anita just comes in at right back – simples!

Benteke hasn’t scored that many this season. He’d be a great coup for £15-20m.

Didn’t Benteke sign a 5 year deal at Villa at the start of the season ?

Pretty sure 30M is the benchmark for any bid with the new contract in play.
