Newcastle’s 32 year-old striker Shola Ameobi played very well on Monday night for Nigeria against Italy at Craven Cottage, and he made one and scored one – a real opportunist goal out of nothing from Shola – and the local lad must have a great chance at realizing his ambition of going to the World Cup next summer in Brazil.
Shola Ameobi – in Nigeria colors
Not only that, but Nigeria are African Champions and must have a very good chance of going far in the tournament.
Ameobi now had 5 caps with two goals, and Nigerian coach Stephen Keshi has hinted he will stick with those who got Nigeria to Brazil, when he names the final squad next year, and that’s good news for Shola.
This is what Nigerian coach Stephen Keshi said today:
“This is the fifth or sixth time I’m taking the same team to play a game. Most of them are going to be there in Brazil, if there’s no injuries. I pray there’s no injuries. ”
“We flew to Britain right after playing a World Cup qualifying match and played Italy just 48 hours after the game. We did all this without sleeping.”
Keshi has often talked about Shola Ameobi’s great experience, so it’s a good bet that as long as Shola can remain free of injury this season, he should be on the plane to Brazil next summer with the Nigerian squad.
Before then we’d love to see Shola help Newcastle climb up that league table, and with the three excellent displays from our lads in the last three games, things appear to be looking up at Newcastle, even though there is discontent with owner Mike Ashley.
The next step in all of this is to play well against Norwich City on Saturday afternoon, and hopefully get all three points for our third league win in a row.
If we can do that then everything will be looking very good in the Newcastle garden. 😀
