Newcastle Star – This Is The Best Match Of My Career

7:33 pm, Wednesday, November 20th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 19 Comments

France did something that no other European country had ever done before – they came back from a 2 goal deficit to beat Ukraine 3-0 in Paris last night, and sensationally make it through to the finals of the World Cup in Brazil next summer

Celebrations after France’s 3-0 win in Paris last night

And when you remember that Ukraine were unbeaten in all their 11 games this year, having won nine of them, and they hadn’t conceded a goal in their last eight games, that’s some achievement by the French side – and it was certainly a thrilling game to watch.

This is what Newcastle’s midfield star had to say about last night’s game:

“Such a turnaround is unique.” “We did it. This is perhaps the best match of my career.” “I think we deserve to be going to Brazil.”

Yohan’s right – France do deserve to be in the World Cup finals and both Yohan and Mathieu Debuchy had very good games for France last night.

And Yohan (along with Loic Remy, Moussa Sissoko and Mathieu Debuchy) probably had the day off from training today, but they will be back at the training ground tomorrow to prepare for the visit of Norwich City on Saturday afternoon – and that’s a game we are all hoping we can win.

In fact 73% of readers expect us to win, and only 12% expect Newcastle to lose the game.

So Norwich will be difficult opposition on Saturday, and it could well be another banana skin – much like the Hill City game became. :(

What do you think?

Norwich is a game we should be winning so expect us to draw/lose. We can’t only turn up for the big teams. You have the beat the clubs below you or soon they’ll be above you.

Just hope he is not knackered he was immense on Tuesday more of the same on Saturday

I think we should start with Arfa against Norwich with Anita at right back and keep the rest of the team the same

This for me is Arfa’s biggest test play him as a no 10 and hope that he has got the message to work for the team because with Cabaye and Tiote behind him he could work wonders its all up to him though

Norwich will be completely different compared to Chelsea and Tottenham. We will be on the front foot and Norwich will try to do what we did the last two games, smash and grab.

As we should be on the offensive and Norwich will park the bus we will need silky play so I expect HBA to play a role after 60 if needed.

This could be a 1-0 win from a set play. It is going to be tough to make the breakthrough regardless of our form at present.

    re-post from 2 topics ago.

as rb we still have ryan taylor as a natural rb also.

and i dont think theres any point getting excited about targets just yet as we all know how much things can go sour with our club.

personally i think santon will be going out and i fear maybe krull but i would expect a decent keeper also coming in for krull as replacement (only because of offers above there value though) and if a player does go thats when i can see us signing players.

Get a life Ollie. Two can play your game. It should be “goalie’s” not “goalies”. It’s a blog, not University Challenge.

  • 8 jimmysmith // Nov 20, 2013 at 10:27 PM

No shit! Norwich can knock it around.

  • 9 croftus5678 // Nov 20, 2013 at 10:27 PM

hehehe poor ollie i am sorry for making your life so unbearable with a wrong spelling i promise not to spell “KRULL” the wrong way again ^^

    @7 toon

yes we always seem to do better as the underdogs and not so well as the fav’s but i do have high hopes 3-1 to us for me.

Wonder what will happen on the blog IF the Toon beat Norwich by a couple of goals and play good football ?

  • 12 Ciaran // Nov 20, 2013 at 11:07 PM

By recent standards I’d say not much. It would appear that it is dying a slow death.

  • 13 Mister Tuff // Nov 20, 2013 at 11:14 PM

santon @11 allow me to have a punt at the question you pose.
(I have to say we have played ok the last two games and I think we will beat Norwich – note these are positive thoughts.)
anyway back to the question -what will happen to the blog if we beat Norwich -easy.
All the Blind Faith Brigade will appear crowing like cockerels -accusing those who may have differing opinions as neggars, not true supporters and using that inflammatory word “haters”.

Hopefully we can get 3 points on Saturday and attack them all game. Hopefully.

Why can a right footed non defender be touted so much as a left back, but when everyone says play him as right back people are up in arms !

  • 16 Jail for Ashley // Nov 21, 2013 at 12:14 AM

My personal opinion is that when blog readers realised there was actually SD PR people on the blog and that opinions were so readily shot down, that it wasn’t worth posting, posts became, instead of minutes apart, hours apart, and how can you argue when somebody is defending the club by saying Nile Ranger was was adequate back up when selling Leon Best!!!!!

  • 17 Graeme // Nov 21, 2013 at 12:25 AM

Jail, Nile Ranger wasnt adequate back-up looby loo, let alone a football playing, would-be striker. He had his own agenda, whatever it was, which simply didnt work for him as an individual or for a football club in general.

It has to be accepted that some people, despite the abundance of gifted talent, simply dont have the capacity to make it work for themselves. In the end, Ranger is his own worst enemy – and probably always will be. its a great loss to football in general.

Chelsea and Tottenham came at us lookin to attack, so played a high defence line. We played our tactics right & won. Norwich will play a deeper line, kinda like we did 2 chelsea and tottenham.

Against smaller teams we haven’t done well but we have mementum from our very good back to back victories. So I can see us starting off very confident, but pressure coming at us later in the game. This would be my starting team

    Krul
    Mbia – willo – colo – santon
    Sisoko – tioti – cabs – goufran
    Hba
    Remy

This will keep the defensive side of our game but change up the attacking side.

We will need Hba to give us some creativity for first hour, hopefully we’ll be couple goals up by then. Then sub him off for Ameobi so we can hold da ball up top and bring others in2 play. Better 2 stay on the front foot, best defence is offence. And I’m confident we can make it 3 wins in a row.

  • 19 FinnBarr // Nov 21, 2013 at 7:17 AM

Shadow- like the line up. I would even swap HBA and Goufran, keep HBA on the wing and keep the Norwich fullbacks on their toes (fitness willing). Reckon the Canaries will stay defensive, our French players will be riding high and hopefully the World Cup momentum will translate to the league game….. or be a brutal hangover.
