Newcastle Linked With Top Young English Goalkeeper

There is news in the Daily Star today that Newcastle are tracking Reading’s England U21 goalkeeper Alex McCarthy, who turns 24 next month.

Alex McCarthy – Reading’s England U21 goalkeeper

Newcastle were linked with Dutch U21 goalkeeper Jeroene Zoet over the summer, and at that time Alex McCarthy was also mentioned as a goalkeeper Newcastle were interested in.

The 6’4″ tall McCarthy is now the Reading number one goalkeeper, and is keeping Adam Federici on the bench this season, as Reading are currently in 8th place in the Championship and potentially challenging for promotion next May.

But with Tim Krul and Rob Elliott two very good goalkeepers, it’s not clear why Newcastle would need another goalkeeper brought in, unless the scouting is being done in case a huge bid comes in for Newcastle number one goalkeeper Tim Krul, from the likes of Italian giants Juventus or some other big club..

That could possibly be the reason why there’s a potential movement with Newcastle’s scouting to check out some good young goalkeepers.

But Newcastle have indicated they would want around £20M for 25 year-old Dutch Intentional Tim Krul – if they were to let him go.

What do you think?

Tim is 25 now so it would be a good time to find the next 17 year old Krul of the future 😉

…don’t know how good that young Alnwick kid is?

Watching the game again ( well extended highlights!) it’s alarming just how many times colocini gets completley taken out of the game by high balls, anything over head height and his positioning and awareness goes out the window
For me next game we need to revert back to debuchy willo yanga santon because we looked extremely suspect with colo back in the side

Started like a house on fire scored then seem to take foot of the gas, became sloppy and nearly paid the price. To many times got ourselves into great positions then elected to shoot

    Few observations from yesterday
    Ameobi excellent first half.
MoM I gave it to MBiwa just from Ameobi who had a excellent first half and Williamson
Bring Colo into defence switching players position did not work for me.
Krul has got to come and collect or punch the ball when it is crossed or floated into the six yard box yesterday – twice yesterday stayed on his line and Norwich nearly capitalised.

The CROWD – DON’T shout for TIOTE to SHOOT every time he gets into the opponents half – because he does and you know where the ball is going.

Referee, linesman – got it wrong for Cisse’s ‘offside’ goal and should of by the laws of the game sent Bennet off for bringing down Sissoko when he was last man.

All in all I take the same result next week.

Should be interesting who Pardew picks for his back four next week

One day we might just sign a player before an expected huge bid comes in for our star man – before the potential incomer’s fee goes through the roof?

Last second foul on sissoko. I can see Cisse actually know the offside rule: )

He firstly appeared not interest to the ball (becoz he is obviously offside) . He let sissoko to chase the ball and he then keeps run to the goal!

This makes me happy becoz he really try very hard to get a goal! (Though remy didnt pass to me b4)

Agree there, for the first time in god knows how long i was actually impressed with cisse, linesman defo got it wrong but unfortunately that’s what happens when you gain a reputation especially when it’s a tight call
But at least he looked interested yesterday and worked with the team, much better from him

Tads- Picking up on your comments on Collocini – he was the reason we could not play a higher line and squeeze the play. He was slow and weak in the air. Unfit and a shadow of the player who got into the PL team. He currently doesn’t deserve a starting slot. Much prefer Yanga at CB where we can use his pace and recovery powers.

Having now seen the Norwich goal again on tv he was at fault for their goal.

Torq Toon- hope you will continue to post as you have something of interest to read. Personal animus of so many interferes with judgment and is just plain boring. Particularly the armchair critics who just like to be the centre of attention whilst contributing nothing to the toon fan.

collo didnt look comftable atall in the air, hopefully he will be on the bench for the next game and was surprised pards didnt play anita. good performance yesterday and 3 pionts to carry us forward we be in the top 8 and only 3 points off 4th place, may the pewbs of a 1000 camels infest my pint the next time i doubt the team so much woo wooo

Agree it was a weak challenge for the goal, and he was caught out over and over
He was caught with a route one ball over the top which luckily Redmond fluffed, there was a little chip across the six yard box which willo called for him to clear but he was sluggish and mid read the jump and was almost punished by Russell Martin

It wasn’t just his defensive display, the team seemed to bypass him as well, many times he was the easy option but the team used krul or wilo

I’m guessing the lads didn’t take to well to his comments either

I think Elliot is one of the worst keepers in the league and his kicking is atrocious. Would welcome competition for Krul although I think there are other areas I would strengthen first. Striker and CB are a priority in the window. We need to sign a replacement for Colo, he was suspect again yesterday and he wants to get home.
