The way Yoan Gouffran pounced on that loose ball from a Shola Ameobi header after 38 minutes last Saturday, after John Ruddy had only parried the ball, was a good definition of being alert, and he hit he ball into the back of the net in an instant for Newcastle’s second goal, and it was Yoan’s fourth goal of the season, and he’s Newcastle’s second top goalscorer behind only Loic Remy – who has eight goals.
Yoan Gouffran – being congratulated after scoring Newcastle’s second goal
Shola Ameobi looked a very good player for Newcastle on Saturday, and at times showed some of his great skill with the ball at his feet, but it was his heading ability that made Newcastle’s second goal, as Yoan explained to the local press today:
“Shola had a great header, and I was able to score,” “We have done that on the training ground, and it was good to score like that in a game.”
“I don’t know about targets. I just want to play, and if I can score, I’m happy. The most important thing is to play.” “It’s my job to attack and defend. If I can score, I score. It’s my job to do the work.”
“It was a good game,” “We played very well in the first half and scored two goals.” “It was a great result for us and the fans.”
All the players are happy.” “We have to stay focused if we want to be in the top eight,” he said. “All the players are focused on that.”
Yoan had another game where he worked his socks off for the side, and tracked back well, and to also score a goal just shows this lad’s contribution to the side, and he looks to have been a real bargain buy for Newcastle last January.
Since arriving on Tyneside, Yoan’s made 30 appearances for Newcastle with 7 good goals – not bad at all – and no wonder he’s already a big fan favorite on Tyneside. 😀
