This Defender Could Become A Newcastle Great

Yanga-Mbiwa played for Newcastle on Saturday against Norwich and the 24 year-old put in another solid game for the Magpies, this time at right back deputizing for the suspended Mathieu Debuchy, and that allowed Fab Coloccini to come back into the  side at center-back.

Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa - another good performance form the Frenchman

But the Newcastle defense had one or two dodgy moments against Norwich, and we didn’t think the defense looked as strong and solid as it had in the last three games, so maybe Yanga-Mbiwa’s best position is in fact  at center-back.

But this lad is just a top professional, and he had this to say today in the local press today:

“We want to play well, we want to win every game, and we’ll see where that takes us,” “If you look at the table, the Champions League or Europa League is still possible at this stage, there are many games left in the season. “

“We’re going to be doing everything we can to finish as high as we can. We have had a taste of European football and we would love to have it back next season.”

“I try to do well every week, on the training ground, during a game. I want to help myself to be as successful as I possibly can,”

The choice of bringing Colo back into the starting line-up and switching Mapou to right back, always opened the way for Mapou to be on the bench against West Brom on Saturday – and after four very good performances in the Newcastle defense, he hardly deserves to find himself on the bench.

But that could happen against West Brom, which would be a shame, but we do expect Mathieu Debuchy to come straight back into the side.

The more Mapou plays in a Newcastle shirt the better he will become on Tyneside, and he could end up becoming a fantastic buy for the club.

It’s a dilemma for Alan Pardew – but a good one to have – because most of his players are performing very well in a Newcastle shirt, and we’re now even above Tottenham on goal difference and in 8th place, and only 2 points out of 4th place – unbelievable.

Spurs were taken apart 6-0 at the Etihad Stadium, where Manchester City are dismantling almost every side that goes there - their last home game was a 7-0 win against Norwich , so when we lost 4-0 on the first day of the season we were against a side who play fantastic football at the Etihad Stadium.

Let’s not get too carried away and heap on added expectations. Not long ago people were saying he was appalling. Why don’t we just see how he fairs over the full season

I enjoyed willamson’s LW play on 26 minutes

Question: Is Mike Williamson now our No1 central defender?

    Slank
    Yes, with MYM!

    Ian Toon/ DG / LEAZES
    Very mixed predictions!
Probably reflects the concern that maybe we haven’t fully addressed the consistency issues!

Either way, looking at all the predictions many still have us down to have a fairly decent points total come January
Hitting the 30 points mark come jan would set up very nicely for the second half of the season!!

    On topic
Fair enough to Pardew, he can’t be aware if every story and interview, but he’s aware now and should make it a priority to speak with Colo
If it is the case he wants out ASAP then get JFK to work with Colo, his representatives and San Lorenzo to get a deal in place for Jan, free up the wages and bring in a young commanding CB, strip him of the armband until then and restore the back four that’s done so well lately

I would rather have same back 4 vs chelsea and spurs with Tiote as captain. If it’s not broken, don’t fix it. Unless we have like 8 games in 20 days like last season.

    Bills son

I think most people are absolutely delighted with the last 3 games. I think the only remaining yet valid concern is that we do appear to be a team of 2 halves.

We got away with it with Krul’s 14 saves at Spurs and Norwich were also allowed back in when we were totally on top.

If Pardew would only lose the fear factor and trust the players especially at home for 90 mins he might actually go on and achieve something.

Would it be possible to drop Santon at LB for Collo and bring Mbwia back to CD next week with the return of Debuchy?

Why do people assume that it is Pardew that orders the team to play defensively once we’re leading by a goal or two? It appears to me that he is as frustrated as we are by this conceding ground and change of mindset. His substitutions on Saturday didn’t suggest that he is the one guilty of negative play.

It’s time to applaud big Mike for providing quality cover in central defense, and to restore our best central defensive partnership for the long haul: Coloccini & M’Biwa.

It’s been a cosistent tactic, for NUFC to Park the Bus, whenever they are leading, for the most part during he second half.
Are you saying that’s because the players decide it, or do you possibly think the manager may have instructed them too.
As it happens consitently, i would suggest it was the latter..
Yes we do have some decent players, but we are badly in need of a manager who understands the modern game.
That is people like Martinez, Pochetinno, Clarke, Rodgers and others, cause this guy is a throwback, playing nineties football and not very well at that.
