Pardew – He’s A Striker I’ve Tried To Sign For Newcastle

Things are looking up at Newcastle these days, but of course a defeat today at home to West Brom could burst Newcastle’s bubble, but the lads are trying to get a good winning streak going in the league, and we already have nine points from our last three games, with three wins in a row.

Shane Long – has speed and skill

And one of the danger men today for West Brom will be Shane Long, and he scored two great goals last Monday night in the first 10 minutes at home to against Aston Villa, so our defense will need to watch out for his quickness and skill today.

And Alan Pardew has talked about the striker, and that he has tried a few times to sign the former Reading striker:

“He’s a striker I’ve been interested in. I’ve always been well aware of him through my Reading connections and a couple of times, I have tried to bring him to this football club.”

“He’s in really good form right now. He’s a dangerous player, really works hard and he has a flair about his game. For us, it is very important, we do not let him have an opportunity, particularly, our back four dwelling on the ball because he really does work you hard with or without the ball.”

“There was genuine interest. He was always in and around the players we talked about bringing in. Within the Premier League managers, we all respect Shane. His form has not gone unnoticed but maybe with fans of other clubs.”

Shane has scored 22 goals in 80 appearances for West Brom in the two and a half years he;s been at the club, and while at Reading he scored 54 goals in 201 appearances.

And with his three year contract at West Brom running out in the summer, there could be some clubs after him in January, and one of them could even be Newcastle.

We expect this lad to be in the starting line-up today and he will give our defense a challenge with both his speed and skill.

If we were genuinely interested why didn’t we sign him when WBA did? We were desperate for strikers then… In fact we’ve been short for a few years.

Cisse (when he was in form) and Ba were great but didn’t work together. That’s as close as we’ve been to having options since Owen, Viduka, Marrtins.

Either Santon,Debuchy,Willo or Collo to get a red card today for pulling him down after letting him past them.
They’ll hit us with the ball over the top several times today which we always struggle with,so this’ll be no easy game.
I’d have Mbiwa at CB with Willo
