    @ tads

    ever heard the saying :

“One swallow doesn’t make a summer”

Yes Shola has played well for 5 games or so, does that mean his record over the last decade is irrelevant ? .

Some of you are acting like he is some young starlet ready to take the league by storm FFS .

Great result today but that doesn’t change my opinion of Shola’s football career at all I’m afraid.

Also nice to see a strong bench for once in a while.

That’s with Raylor and Marveaux missing .

    “Just because Benteke & Lukaku don’t play in a traditional 4-4-2 doesn’t mean they can’t ”
And it doesn’t mean they can

That is completely hypothetical, a theory, like when people say Ben Arfa should replace Ameobi as he would thrive in his role, no one knows that they just assume it

It is an odd one. People always say about strikers that 1 goal can kick start their form, but we have said that since the ball went in off his arse against WBA last year! The goals against Fulham and Anzhi last season, late winners, should have been more than enough to do it for him, and yet he never kicked on.

I think he needs a change, I have confidence he will score goals regularly again, just not sure that it would happen here now.

Also if players were picked and dropped solely on there past form Willo would be no where in sight and cisse would still be toiling away up front
5 games is hardly just someone having a couple of good showings, it doesn’t make a summer but his partnership sure as sh* t could make our season

I very much doubt that either Bentke or Lukaku could do what Shola does now. Both play on the last man, Benteke in particular is always on (or regularly past) the last man. Lukaku could probably do it, but Benteke is completely wrong as a comparson for their roles.

    bpc read posts 75 & 76 lol
but tbf we do need an upgrade soon but that is obvious but right now he has been part of our 4 wins and really no need to point out his goal record as i posted earlier this is the important record and it will have got even better after todays result:

    with sola 80% win rate

    without shola 25% win rate

    @ Ted

    Not at all m8, I’m chuffed .

    I don’t see how saying :

“The thing is we could bring someone in who can do Shola’s job but actually score goals on a consistent basis” .

“For all Shola’s heart and him being a Geordie his goals record is shocking” .

Is going out my way to start an argument . The things I have heard said about Shola at matches and on here is 20 times worse than that .

If anything its other people starting arguments against me for having a valid opinion of a player and not just saying ” yeah he is dog-sh*t” .

A goal every 275 minutes played is hardly a shocking record…. Dress your thoughts up however you want, but your thoughts barely scratch the surface of Shola’s career.

haha lilo true thats wat i mean i cant see him coming back for us unfortunately because i can’t see him getting the run or goals for us so i’d sell in the summer but i will say i loved every single goal he scored lol

    Great win lads.

The team seems to have really gelled and it has a nice balance.

Gouffran is key to that. We now have attacking width and defensive cover whereas jonas only gave us cover.

We also have a striker capable of running at defences.

I hope Pards has said to cisse to keep an eye on Shola recent performances because he should be filling that roll come the end of the season but with an added goal threat.

Shola has been getting in between the lines and bringing the midfield in which is something we haven’t been able to do since demba left.

I like the way Pards has set us up to play at a high tempo.

Willo has been a revelation with his strength in defence.

Nice to see us playing some real football rather than the hoofball. And with Shola it means that when we do play long at least we have someone capable of bringing the ball down. I hope he. Keeps it up.

Thankfully swansea have no strikers for Wednesday. Another win or draw would give us great momentum for united. Then we just have to navigate the tricky Southampton and hopefully demolish palace.

If we can put together a good run into the end of the year it should set us up nicely for a decent finish.

@YGouffran félicitation pour ce but .. Congratulation for this goal my friend , happy for the toon army !!

Not sure if he is the answer to our striker needs though .

It shows the depth, or rather lack of depth, of knowledge when Sholas career as an out and out striker is recalled to make us all think we are being blinded by the emperors new clothes. Well, would you believe it, Pardew has actually built a team with a forward line of Remy for movement, Gouffran for decoy and wait for it, Shola as enforcer freeing both of them from the brutalities of defenders. How the Shola haters must be seething at finding that NOT bagging goals can still make you a very good front man. Surely you must be getting some idea now, lads?

Black mark on the blog captain there.

I couldn’t choose between Shola, sissoko and Willo, and dare I say it, Santon!
