According to the Sunday People today, Newcastle will be going after Heerenveen striker Alfred Finnbogason in January, but West Brom’s Shane Long is also said to be a target, but the better bargain will probably be the 24 year-old Icelandic International.
Alfred Finnbogason – Newcastle target in January
The news is that Newcastle are getting ready to bid for the Heerenveen striker, because the Toon thinks that Shane Long will be too expensive, with other Premier league clubs likely to be interested in the former Reading striker, which could drive up the price.
But that logic seems just a little faulty, because Shane is a free agent in the summer, if West Brom don’t take up the year option they have on his contract.
And we would have thought his transfer fee wouldn’t be any more than £3M or £4M at most in January.
The 19 times capped Iceland International had been in hot form for his Dutch club this season, and has scored 16 goals in 13 games, after scoring 28 goals in 33 games last season.
Newcastle were offered the striker for £5M in the summer, but passed up then on that chance to sign him, although if this report is accurate, they will not pass up on the opportunity to sign him in January.
