This Is Newcastle’s Striker Target In January

According to the Sunday People today, Newcastle will be going after Heerenveen striker Alfred Finnbogason in January, but West Brom’s Shane Long is also said to be a target, but the better bargain will probably be the 24 year-old Icelandic International.

Alfred Finnbogason – Newcastle target in January

The news is that Newcastle are getting ready to bid for the Heerenveen striker, because the Toon thinks that Shane Long will be too expensive,  with other Premier league clubs likely to be interested in the former Reading striker, which could drive up the price.

But that logic seems just a little faulty, because Shane is a free agent in the summer, if West Brom don’t take up the year option they have on his contract.

And we would have thought his transfer fee wouldn’t be any more than £3M or £4M at most in January.

The 19 times capped Iceland International had been in hot form for his Dutch club this season, and has scored 16 goals in 13 games, after scoring 28 goals in 33 games last season.

Newcastle were offered the striker for £5M in the summer, but passed up then on that chance to sign him, although if this report is accurate, they will not pass up on the opportunity to sign him in January.

What do you think?

    Well said Alan.

It’s often said that a week is a long time in politics but it is nothing compared to a defeat followed by a win for the Fleet Street hacks to contradict themselves within days of each result.

Praise again must go yet again (and isn’t it nice to say that) to the much maligned and scoffed at Williamson and Shola. Both had outstanding games again. It was also very pleasing to see Goof and Sissoko score. They have made their positions in the team their own through their own hard work and tireless energy.

It was interesting to hear from the Scouser on Sky about the positions that Goof and Sissoko play in the team even though their positions are left and right wing.

I was very impressed with Shane Long. He would be a great acquisition for us.

Was Les Ferdinand drunk on MOTD? Or did he just only watch there 10 seconds of highlights and form an opinion on the game based on them, because Sir Les was babbling some utter Shite, same for Murphy

I don’t know anything about finnbogson but I’m never convinced these strikers with good records in the ditch leagues can repeat it here.
I know there’s been a handful who have but Ruiz, Altidore, Bony and De Jong have all been on our radar and have looked poor at their clubs.

I’d far rather get long as we know exactly what we’re getting.

I remember reading a post on here from someone who lives in holland and they said he was decent. Not big or strong or fast but a good finisher. That doesn’t usually work out.

not as a replacement for cisse though. As a complement to cisse. Cisse has scored goals everywhere hes been. You dont lose that scoring nous overnight. he will be back he jjust needs things to break his way
