Newcastle Youngsters Outstanding On Loan – Video

Both on loan players James Tavernier and Haris Vuckic made their debut for Rotherham United over the weekend, and James scored his very first goal and was outstanding for the side.

Obviously Rotherham manager Steve Evans was pleased with the performance of both Newcastle players:

“He and James Tavernier came down from Newcastle United and they were excellent,”  “You can get some from Premier League clubs and they’re big time Charlies, well, these two were not.”

Haris Vuckic has tremendous potential as a player, but that has not been realized at Newcastle, mainly due to a string of injuries since he signed for the Magpies as a 16 year-old almost five years ago.

The Rotherham manager explained his reasoning for the signing the once capped Slovenian International:

“I didn’t want to sign a like-for-like replacement for ‘Revs’ and then have him sitting next to me on the bench every week.”

“We wanted someone who’s a little bit different, someone who can drop in and link the play and, especially at home, someone who can unlock the door and he can certainly do that.”

“Haris is a special player and he’ll show that over the next five or six games.” “He’s really good, very technical and he has an excellent all-round game.”

“He brings other people into the game and he is someone who scores goals too, I think he will do well.

James Tavernier had an outstanding debut, and he showed his versatility by playing in both full back positions, and scoring a goal, and he can also play at center-back.

The 22 year-old seemed pleased with how things went over the weekend:

“I planned to come in and make a difference and I hope I did that,” he added. “Alan Pardew has told me to work hard, get my head down and that’s what I intend to do.”

Tavernier played the whole game on Saturday in the 4-1 home win against Gillingham,  which took Rotherham into the play-off zone in 6th position and 31 points, and Haris came on in the last 8 minutes of the game, replacing Alex Revell.

We hope to see our two lads do very well for the Millers and hopefully help them get that promotion to the Championship this season.

Here’s James’ first goal in senior football and his interview after the game.
