Well horrible way to end a great run of results but 4 wins in 5 games is still a great points haul

Sadly (or luckily) i missed the game so can’t really comment, but is the fact we’ve lost that has got people riled up or the manner of the defeat?

Seems very poor we couldn’t come out of there with a point though, Swansea have been poor at home this season and have a very stretched squad
Still, were still up there in the league so for me tonight was one of those nights and the team and manager need to go to Manure looking for a reaction, if we get one great if we don’t then it brings up those consistency questions again!

A defeat is one thing but that shower is unacceptable. Pardew is either blind or is incapable of making even the most basic of formation changes to suit the style of the game.

    As for his three sub’s???

    WOW, just WOW

Lilongwe…I don’t think you should take my criticism as being pointed only towards this game in particular or saying he had loads of different options to choose from.

My criticism is that AP might have used alot of different players this season, but that seems to be in search for a “winning formular” (it has been far more reactive than a proactive approach) – this is my opinion of course ;)

I think Laudrup highlight our problems very well – you need to keep it fresh and you new more than one route – we are very predictable and one dimensional, but we can also be great at times.

Today we were crap – today we ran out of luck and today we got behind (we never come back going behind). It’s not like everything was rosy the four games we went winning – I just think today highlights the point I have been trying to get across (I know you might disagree, but that’s still how I feel ;) )

  • 8 Ted Bundy // Dec 4, 2013 at 10:41 PM

Hopefully we can deceive some Italian club into thinking Santon is still going to be the new Maldini, has been doing well and cash in. Colo I hope is on the first flight out of here in January. Not only are his performances sub-standard (getting beat in the air by smaller players, committing silly fouls, ball watching, selling himself cheaply by diving in putting the rest of our defence in jeopardy, not showing any kind of leadership, etc) but I get a sense his presence isn’t wanted by some in the team, particularly after ousting Mbiwa which was completely unwarranted. He was never the most vocal, but now I don’t see him communicating with his team mates, ever.

  • 9 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Dec 4, 2013 at 10:41 PM

manxpie…I think you should put the bottle down and brew some coffee mate!

…I don’t get you and what you accomplish from writing that drivel to me – is it just for kicks?

  • 10 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Dec 4, 2013 at 10:42 PM

    JB… :D lol

  • 11 OhSholaAmeobi // Dec 4, 2013 at 10:43 PM

coloccini hating is laughable. didn’t have his best game but was certainly no worse than anybody else. he didn’t play poorly last game either. nor did he play badly last season after january.
seems to be the new scapegoat based primarily on the idea he wants to go home. let’s be honest, most of our players would be at a bigger club if they could. grow up people.

    manxpie // Dec 4, 2013 at 10:38 PM

tads as you’d imagine there’s way over the top reactions lol
but we held back in the first half and let them play but with no worries really but soft goal to give away at the end
then the second half we got on top and then webb decided we’d had enough of winning then blew for full time :)
but seriously some shocking decisions! enjoy motd

jesper so we were so predictable we won 4 games in a row against chelsea and spurs i may add
and still ya forget that swansea (your secret love) havent won either when they’ve gone behind
and how on earth can you critisise a manager for finding a winning formula!!?
    very baffiling!

Pardew dropped the ball tonight, he did nothing to change to way the game was going, as always if plan A doesn’t work we end up losing.

Yes it was a red card but even if it was given it wouldn’t have changed the result and it was not a pen

  • 17 manxpie // Dec 4, 2013 at 10:47 PM

jesper so the fact 90% of that post was your writings it kinda makes sense the “drivel” part
but i again ask ya why is it that your opinions cant be challenged??
and why is my question “drivel”?

  • 18 jimiley // Dec 4, 2013 at 10:47 PM

We are due a few defeats after a good run. We are NUFC not Man U. keep the faith. We will stay up.

  • 19 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Dec 4, 2013 at 10:49 PM

manxpie…you are very hung up on just winning aren’t you?

…is that how you measure everything? Because there is no such thing as a “winning formular”, it’s like chasing tails mate!

A penny for your ever so thoughtful thought since today we lost and seeing that’s how you measure thing. Now what?

  • 20 John Tudor // Dec 4, 2013 at 10:50 PM

    thats all mashley wants

  • 21 manxpie // Dec 4, 2013 at 10:51 PM

jack at 1-0 down there was a stone wall penalty no doubt
that was when we were on top
that would have surely changed the game mate
and we did change it at half time we were well on top 2nd half with a higher line

  • 22 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Dec 4, 2013 at 10:55 PM

manxpie…my opinion can be challenged, but what you are doing on a daily basis is being opnoxious and just looking for a fight!

…it’s been like that for as long as I remember. If I am not here you talk behind my back (maybe just to take the moral high ground or maybe that’s just your character)

Your rhetoric leaves alot to desire. If you want to have a prober discussion with me you gonna need to change that or you might as well just move on. I have told your sidekick that as well.

It’s an advise – you can take it ao leave it. Your choice!

  • 23 NUFCarter // Dec 4, 2013 at 10:55 PM

Of course we will stay up. Avoiding relegation is not the objective top 8 is the realist ambition for our team. But when we lose in the way we did today its extremely depressing

  • 24 ronjohno // Dec 4, 2013 at 10:55 PM

    Jack Butler

You have said it all for me.
Sending a side out to try counter attacking against a team who thrive on running at you is just stupid suicide..
Getting beat and he puts defenders on?? Unless there were injuries we don’t know about.

  • 25 JackButler // Dec 4, 2013 at 10:56 PM

All the pundits would argue that it was not a pen, and playing with a higher line against a team with real pace didn’t help.

We should have gone to five in midfield with Anita coming on for Shola, but instead he brings on two defenders and a player who is borderline premier standard.

How many save’s did their keeper have to make in the second half? We were over run for the majority of the game, Pardew got it wrong and we lost

  • 26 Blaydon-Toon // Dec 4, 2013 at 11:01 PM

So we lose and all he’ll brakes out on the blog ! Only caught the second half and have to say we looked jaded not Swansea …. Q if you are through on goal do you A pass to Obertan or B pass to Remy or C go your self anyone who answers A give ya heed a shake

and the fact you cant answer very simple questions that YOUR opinions asked (who should have started and who should have been dropped!!!?)
why the hell should i answer your question on MY opinion!!
again i’ll say practice wat ya preach fella!!
but i will answer ya jesper because thats wat “debating” is write it down or look it up!?
we’ll look to the next game with pretty much the same outlook i believe we were seriously unlucky today i would change colo n mbwia but the rest the same!

  • 30 toonarmydownsouth // Dec 4, 2013 at 11:08 PM

If you asked 99.9% of footballers they would answer “A and sit back and admire”

For me there’s still a few positives tonight
    - It should be obvious that Obertan should never be allowed to play football for anyone, ever again, there should be a football offenders register and where ever he moves to by law he should have to warn all near by clubs he has a history of impersonating a football with intent to deceive and defraud!
-Moyes lost to Everton at Old Trafford, pretty funny
    -Bardsley scored Chelsea’s winning goal

  • 31 Big Pappa Cissé // Dec 4, 2013 at 11:08 PM

Suarez best striker in the world ? .

  • 32 blacknwhite yorkshireman // Dec 4, 2013 at 11:09 PM

Pretty depressing performance tonight. I don’t have too much of a problem with the line up, and as for the subs there wasn’t much more that could be done at that point but why is there no creativity on there in the first place! Mostly annoyed about how we looked like we’d be happy with a draw from the first whistle, and when you approach it like that you’ll usally get beat. We also let Swansea play exactly how they love to play, I’m no Mourinho but surely thats asking for trouble. Only bright points for me were Debuchy who was solid, put a shift in and was very unlucky to concede an own goal and Haidara who looked a lot sharper and smarter both defensively and offensively when he came on.

  • 33 Blaydon-Toon // Dec 4, 2013 at 11:11 PM

    BPC I think so …

  • 34 manxpie // Dec 4, 2013 at 11:11 PM

jack there defenders did the saving for there keeper and 1 by there arm
i’m sorry but we were on top from the second half and shola was winning everything
and if we were 1-0 down how much stick would pardew get for taking of shola?
bad refereeing changed this game imo

  • 35 JackButler // Dec 4, 2013 at 11:12 PM

I used to have a dog that reminds me of Obertan, it was ugly as sin, would run all day chasing the ball but didn’t know what the f**k to do with it when he got it

    Normal service resumed.

  • 37 Oleg G // Dec 4, 2013 at 11:13 PM

The only problem for me is that we lost the way we did. 3-0. They were suppose to be the tired side. We were suppose to dominate the game as we have a good spirit after those 4 wins, and they are playing bad this year. But this game was all upside down.

If it would end 0-1 to Swan, I would not be angry. But those other two goals, were just bad defending. We let them (or better yet, we don’t know how to deal with) pass around like they were a PL team and we were some 12 year old kids. Players running after them and cannot take the ball from them. Looked ludicrous at some moments of the game.

In the end, 5th of Dec, 2013. Being 7th, above S’ton, Man U, with Spurs almost losing their game too (lucky lucky spurs). I will take that. We are no match for City, Chelsea, Arsenal and it appear Liverpool, but we can fight for 5th-9th place and this should be our goal for now. From our Swan till West Brom games, I will be happy if we will get 10 points. Lower than 7-8 will be horrible. Above 11 will be amazing as we will be playing Arsenal, S’ton, Man U. We have to pick up 7-9 poins from C Palace, Stock City, West Brom.

Also, have to blame the ref for this game too. But this is behind us now. Lets hope we can see a better Newcsalte on Saturday.

  • 38 toonarmydownsouth // Dec 4, 2013 at 11:14 PM

Yeah agree no major problems with the line up if everyone was fit and able ( a few seem to think we looked tired? Didn’t see the game)
But thought the subs sounded a bit odd tbh, sounded like a reaction to do damage control when it sounds like we really should of re shuffled at half time

  • 39 Big Pappa Cissé // Dec 4, 2013 at 11:14 PM

Amazes me Obertan keeps getting on the bench and coming on as sub yet Marveaux doesn’t get a look in .

Oh wait, he was a Pardew signing. Thats why.

  • 40 John Tudor // Dec 4, 2013 at 11:15 PM

bloody hell jesper how the hell is asking about your opinion bein obnoxious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AGAIN my question to ya was simply “who should be dropped and who should start?”
    to your opinion
the fact that you can’t answer them very simple questions to your very strong opinion that you have put in lots of posts this week!!!!
tells me i’m not the obnoxious 1!!

  • 42 JackButler // Dec 4, 2013 at 11:18 PM

Shola may have won everything but what did we create from it?

Pardew would not have taken any stick for replacing Shola at half time as we needed to get control of the midfield as thats where we lost the game.

Bringing on Obertan, Mapou and Haidara when we were losing the game and leaving Anita on the bench beggers belief (unless it was because of injury) as Cabaye and Tiote were never in the game and over run for the most part.

  • 43 Big Pappa Cissé // Dec 4, 2013 at 11:20 PM

I have never seen an NUFC side look so distraught when we concede more than one goal in my life. You might as well go and do something else for the rest of the match because we have no chance of coming back .

Doesn’t help when you see Pardew’s gormless face on the sidelines and then he starts bringing defenders on when we desperateley need a goal FFS.

Whenever the second or third goal goes in and you see the camera focus in on Pardew he looks lost and confused .

  • 44 John Tudor // Dec 4, 2013 at 11:21 PM

  • 45 jimiley // Dec 4, 2013 at 11:21 PM

  • 46 jimiley // Dec 4, 2013 at 11:22 PM

We do not want to be in Europe and we are not interested in Cups. What are we interested in?

  • 47 manxpie // Dec 4, 2013 at 11:22 PM

tads for me we were just holding our shape in the 1st half letting them pass it about not looking tired imo and tbh we only had ober n sammi as attackin subs so the subs for me were saving for sat i.e willo n shola but santon looked like a niggle

  • 48 John Tudor // Dec 4, 2013 at 11:24 PM

saw no scribbled shopping list, no subs looking at play books like most other confidence no nothing

  • 49 jimiley // Dec 4, 2013 at 11:25 PM

    Top 4 is nailed on.

  • 50 jimmysmith // Dec 4, 2013 at 11:27 PM

Get ready for Benny to come back in, and the same old disjointed, hand wringing, disturbing performances.

I think we need at least 4 top players to really challenge the top sides. 2 hard running intelligent wingers like Gouffran, even though he was poor today, and another big target man and small centre forward and possibly another creative attacking central mid and centre back, all of them solid EPL players ready to step in.

Obertan, Cisse, Marv and I’m afraid Benny, just aren’t odds on to cut the mustard at this stage of the game. Still, as we are, we’re top 8, I do believe.

  • 51 manxpie // Dec 4, 2013 at 11:28 PM

jack but shola in the second half set up a couple of chances its very easy to criticise after isn’t it? and as i said we were well on top after half time with shola on the pitch
    thats my point really
and i think hiadara was forced and the rest were to save for saturday tbh

  • 52 manxpie // Dec 4, 2013 at 11:29 PM

  • 53 expatmag // Dec 4, 2013 at 11:29 PM

We didn’t get it over here in Oz for some reason so I cant comment on the game however I am not surprised by the result as I sensed an air of over confidence in recent articles and interviews with all the chat about Europe and CL qualification and it reminded me so much of the Wigan 4-0 defeat a couple of years ago which brought the 6 gme winning run to an end.

Be warned. Don’t expect anything off Man Utd at the weekend. They will be looking for revenge after their defeat to Everton today. Our only saving grace is Rooney will be suspended.

  • 54 John Tudor // Dec 4, 2013 at 11:29 PM

Not long woke up and saw the result, bit of a sickner but there’ll be a few more of them this season along with a few more memorable wins, Ashley will be happy as there won’t be any clamour to ‘push’ on if we’re well adrift from the chasing pack come January, after all why would anybody be desperate for a new striker to clinch that eighth spot.

  • 63 jimmysmith // Dec 4, 2013 at 11:39 PM

Maybe the lads thought that seeing the game was in Wales no one would be paying any attention, both sets of dreary run of the mill hacks going through the motions, judging by that performance, I mean, …….Shola and Debuchey aside were alright though, not great, but alright. But that really was strangely ordinary, for this level and under the circumstances.

  • 64 manxpie // Dec 4, 2013 at 11:41 PM

can someone answer me this if ashley was so interested in making a profit from a prem team why the hell did he spend nearly 300 mill on 1?
he could have spent 5% of that on an up and coming team and got them in to the prem and then seen some rewards?

  • 65 expatmag // Dec 4, 2013 at 11:41 PM

Judging by the result, that would appear to be the case.

Reading the match reports, moat say Webb missed a couple of clear penalty calls for us. I am certain that bloke has some kind of agenda against us.

  • 66 blacknwhite yorkshireman // Dec 4, 2013 at 11:42 PM

Imo the gameplan in the first half was a similar approach to the Chelsea game, sit back, conserve energy and hopefully grow into the game as the opponents tire and run out of ideas. Dunno about anyone else but I completely disagree with this approach, although the Chelsea game was great in the end, during the first half we did nothing and if Chelsea had of played anywhere near how they can we would of been hammered. Tonight we weren’t so lucky, their pressure told and then we didn’t have any options on the bench to change it. As for looking tired, Cabaye and Tiote looked the most sluggish I thought but Swansea have played a lot more than us recently, poor excuse but I’m sure pards will give it a go! Subs were definitely questionable, but probs did save us further damage, their backs were up and Williamson and Santon (not as much) were starting to get run ragged. Don’t even get me started on Obertan, I’d rather see pards strip off……….and then maybe sub himself on too!

  • 67 expatmag // Dec 4, 2013 at 11:44 PM

    Jim Iley

We have just been beaten 3-0 by a team with no available strikers.

What do you really think MU will do to us?

  • 68 jimmysmith // Dec 4, 2013 at 11:45 PM

Maybe Wales in general just offends our French contingents sensibilities, except for Debuchey, who I suspect is actually a Geordie and fast becoming my favorite player.

  • 69 expatmag // Dec 4, 2013 at 11:47 PM

I live in Oz and this kid Taggart is good. He scored a hat trick last week against one of our best defensive teams and every goal came from outside the box and was unstoppasble.

He will be the next one off the aussie conveyor belt heading for Europe. We could do worse in signing him up as a prospect for the future.

  • 70 manxpie // Dec 4, 2013 at 11:50 PM

    jimmy me too
the fact that he wins pretty much every header no matter wat the hight difference and goes in hard and mostly fair plus is up and down the pitch all game wat a player
i’d imagine he watches games as a fan with his top off in winter too

  • 71 Sazzer // Dec 4, 2013 at 11:50 PM

I wouldn’t be suprise if Van Persie gets back.

Swansea missing their two best strikers didn’t help.

2-0 and Welbeck will probably score the two just to rub it in.

  • 72 blacknwhite yorkshireman // Dec 4, 2013 at 11:56 PM

Nudge on Gouffran looks more of pen everytime. Absolute crank is that freak Shelvey

  • 73 toonarmydownsouth // Dec 4, 2013 at 11:57 PM

Some great action shots of the under rated and misunderstood Obertan from tonight’s game

  • 74 Sazzer // Dec 5, 2013 at 12:02 AM

I will scout him Dennis Wise style. Heskey always makes me smile these days.

Also, If he can strike up partnership with Heskey then replacing Remy next to Shola should be a piece of cake.

We did sign up Curtis the Great or at least Good from Down Underland we will see.

  • 75 Sazzer // Dec 5, 2013 at 12:05 AM

    Heskey Newcastle news that is.

  • 76 expatmag // Dec 5, 2013 at 12:09 AM

Believe me, he will be a good player. He is still very young and has aready represented Australia at senior level. If he continues to perform well in the A League over here and score goals, he should make the Oz world cup squad.

Curtis Good should be loaned out to championship team for the season. He has great potential which he will not achieve if he continues to languish in the reserves.

I can see Curtis coming back from a long term loan much improved and similar to Dummett.

    Got bored after 10 comments.

Is it just me or who thinks another day with the same opportunies we could have won?

Yes the subs were truly laughable (unless there has been unmentioned niggles)

    1 clear pen
    1 possible pen
    1 clear red card.
    Poor spill from krul
    Unlucky own goal
And a goal from a player who should have been off (which krul
    Could/should have saved)

I’m just glad all this bad luck came in a single game and not the last 4 games which we won.

Lucking forward to going to Old Trafford Saturday

  • 78 expatmag // Dec 5, 2013 at 12:14 AM

Heskey has only just returned from a lengthy spell out through injury. At this level over here, he is regarded very highly and did quite well last season, scoring a few goals.

However, because of his name, he gets more attention from defenders which opens up more space for Taggart.

Heskey has intelligently used the space to drasg defenders out wide but Newcastle have yet to feed Taggart regularly into the space Heskey has created for him.

  • 79 belgrade fan // Dec 5, 2013 at 12:15 AM

2 things- AP doesnt know to accomodate team to oponents. Every game same team. this was not game for for Willo and Shola. This was game for Anita and Mbiwa. Swans was tired, without 5 plyers. But AP is just AP. And for all of you that like Shola- only CF on the world who never scores. He CANT be better than HBA.

  • 80 jimmysmith // Dec 5, 2013 at 12:17 AM

I’m not sure Curtis Good made the greatest career move joining the Toon.

Two years ago he was a regular for a side that would fair hammer his present team, our under twenty ones. They’d a kicked lumps out of them. Shoulda joined a Dutch or Belgian club, that would of given him a run in the first team, or stayed put a couple more years, ….hmmmm, he now says with increasingly less confidence and so has the dilemma of having gone to the trouble of having written, of course has the unhappy decision of whether to post…..once again….fuggit!

  • 81 expatmag // Dec 5, 2013 at 12:17 AM

When you give up 74% of possession to the opposition, you take the risk of defeat.

A couple of years ago, we did that and won 2-0 due to 2 outrageous goals from Cisse.

It didn’t work this time, not because of luck or bad refereeing, but ridiculous tactics employed by the manager.

  • 82 Sazzer // Dec 5, 2013 at 12:33 AM

Yeah, I hope Good will turn out great. Just like Bigi, Campbell and rest of our promising youngsters. This Taggart kid also. If so hopefully he stays in Newcastle family.

You just have to look at the development of Ramsey in Arsenal this season. From being a bit like on same level as Cleverley to becoming one of the best powerhouse midfielder in the league so far.

  • 83 Mister Tuff // Dec 5, 2013 at 12:41 AM

History lesson for those not up to speed.
Ashley bought club to promote Sports Direct (as per Sir John Hall).
Spending 5 % of £300 million on an up an coming club (if there was even one for sale for £15 million) would not fulfill the original objective -to promote SD.
    Lesson over Duh.

  • 84 Sazzer // Dec 5, 2013 at 1:24 AM

    belgrade fan
I agree that with better choices we should have been able to outplay a Swansea side without strikers.

  • 85 70TWO // Dec 5, 2013 at 1:26 AM

There is not many that would probably admit this but, I would have quite happily settled for a 0-0 result tonight. Unfortunately at half time that was not going to be the case and despite Pardews ‘best’ efforts there was no recovery by the end. In order to keep on track we need 28 points by Xmas, which is still achievable.

  • 86 manxpie // Dec 5, 2013 at 1:34 AM

tuff but there was sure as shit is smelly cheaper options and better options than us!! just to advertise for free and piss of alot less pasionate fans!! duh!
so my point stands why would ashley pay 300 mill to JUST!!! to advertise his company?

  • 87 DG MAGPIE // Dec 5, 2013 at 1:47 AM

It was 66%, and against any other non top 4 team I would be concerned. It’s not like we didn’t have chances to win the game.

    Swansea had 56% vs City
    58% vs Cardiff
    67% vs west ham
    58% vs Southampton

Gaining 1 point from all 4 games.
Therefore the possession itself doesn’t provide a very accurate perception of the game.

  • 88 Mister Tuff // Dec 5, 2013 at 2:12 AM

manx – if we knew the way Ashley thought we could probably answer a lot of questions. One rumour at the time was that he was hoping to sell the club quickly and make a profit. During the 3 day sale negotiations with SJH -he asked why did Ashley want to buy the club and was told to promote SD. Ashley is expanding all over Europe and the far east. He is clearly a good operator in the retail world -but perhaps not in the football world.

  • 89 Blofal // Dec 5, 2013 at 2:37 AM

What really confuses me is Pardew played our 1st team today against a tired and stretched Swansea, then had them sit back off the opposition and play defensively ( it was obviously the instruction as NOBODY was closing down.)

Then he seemed to all but give up by substituting defensively and preserving players for next week.

Now we go to Old Trafford with Debuchy suspended and our current first 11 tired. With Man U being beaten by Everton they will be looking to redeem themselves and I really don’t think we have a hope in hell of avoiding a rout. Which means we will probably f^cking win.

  • 90 gonufc (Release the Hatem Bomb) // Dec 5, 2013 at 4:07 AM

Pardew really is so flippin’ annoying.

We got some good results by playing Shola and simply lumping it up to him. Fine, not fun but if that’s gonna be the plan ok.

Tonight, we do the same (albeit an incredibly defensive version) yet after a poor performance Shola comes off.

From that point does anyone have any idea whatsoever what the ‘plan’ was?

It seemed to revert to that usual of clearing it and hoping a forward does something special. Apart from that, I really can’t see what Pardew’s plan is when it’s not long ball for Shola? And I mean generally- not just tonight.

Lumping it up for Remy or Cisse is not going to go well, so why do we keep doing it?

Does no one else think that his whole ‘tactics’ has always been “Hope HBA/ Cisse/ Kebab do something special”.

    Is Ben Arfa injured?

  • 91 Jail for Ashley // Dec 5, 2013 at 4:27 AM

I don’t think you are stupid, but you keep saying about Ashley spending 300M, have you seen how much the value of SD has increased, also if he manages to pay himself back before he goes, which I’ve no doubt he will, and then sells us foe 150M he will have done very nicely, thankyou very much, leaving behind him our first PL relegation and every unwanted PL record broken, along with some of the most dour football seen at SJP in a long time, Ok Souness, Roeder etc, but they we’re sacked not given eight year contracts.

  • 92 Santon03 // Dec 5, 2013 at 4:38 AM

this was away game, it’s never easy not even for teams like Chelsea or City. We had a good run but ended by a good team on their turf, it’s normal. Swans played well, we were outplayed. It’s time to start the winning run again, well maybe start with Soton game. I’m not that upset if we lose against Swans and MU away, I will be upset if we lose to sunderland again.

  • 93 Santon03 // Dec 5, 2013 at 5:00 AM

SD and NUFC are different company, separate in everything. Ashley holds 64% share of SD, so you couldn’t say SD & NUFC have the same owner or merge. the other 36% owned by others, they are PLC and we are not. SD profits has nothing to do with NUFC other than ads, they aren’t selling only NUFC stuffs. If they are only selling NUFC stuffs then yes SD profits came from NUFC and your theory would be correct because I’m pretty sure that NUFC didn’t use rackets, fishing rod, cricket bat, etc and I don’t think they have ads like HBA playing tennis or Sissoko holding fishing rod. Even if Ashley didn’t own NUFC, he would still put ads everywhere.

  • 94 theartfuldodger // Dec 5, 2013 at 5:44 AM

Had we scored first, it would have been a similar story to the last 4 games. We would have atleast got a draw.

The solid 442 isnt good at chasing a game. When we dont have so many men behind the ball, we invariably concede.
But without marveaux hba and cisse what could we change it to.

We dint have any luck this game.

  • 95 Santon03 // Dec 5, 2013 at 6:06 AM

I agree 100%, it’s just bad luck. Even the manner how we conceded first 2 goals. We will have these kind of games that wouldn’t go our way no matter what we do.

  • 96 cyprus // Dec 5, 2013 at 6:16 AM

    * Tough game against Barca last night: 65% possession is pretty impressive. Definitely a better team than ours, if not in terms of individuals.
*Sissoko, Tiote, Debuchy had good games. AP must learn to sub Cabs when he has a stinker. Cabs, look at the first point, mate, you got spanked and your shots and passes were not too accurate.
*AP, Obertan is NOT even championship level. Please, DON’T ever play him again! Full stop.
*AP, where was HBA, Marveaux? You saw that the people on the pitch were getting thumped, could they have done much worse?
*Howard Webb, you are a crap ref.

  • 97 Lilongwe Geordie // Dec 5, 2013 at 6:29 AM

Having slept on it, I still feel the same. No problem with the selection or line up, I didn’t see the need to break up a winning team, given they haven’t played lots of games so far this season. If anyone was going to be tired it should have been them.

We played far too deep, and too defensive. I’am okay with sacrificing possession to them, as they will do that to most teams.

To concede 3 goals to a team who for most of the game didn’t have a recognised centre forward is disappointing.

I didn’t see the game, but listened to talk sports international radio coverage. Can’t get the best idea of what the flow of the game was like, but it sounded very open when Obertan came off, so I can understand why you would want to utlise his pace. Unless Santon picked up a knock I think that was an odd change, and Mbiwa coming on was an admission we had given up.

Not a great night, but lets pick ourselves up, dust ourselves down and prepare to get at Man U.

  • 98 Lilongwe Geordie // Dec 5, 2013 at 6:34 AM

    HBA was ill.

I do find it odd that Campbell or Marveaux didn’t travel with the squad (or if they did why they didn’t replace Cisse instead of Dummett), even if it is only a slight possibility that an attacking player may pick up a knock in the warm up. By leaving our bench with 3 defenders, 2 of which are left backs, Pards didn’t really give himself any options to change the game.

  • 99 John Tudor // Dec 5, 2013 at 6:36 AM

he is therefore a poor manager to not see all that

  • 100 theartfuldodger // Dec 5, 2013 at 6:38 AM

I do not know why Marveaux wasnt there if hba was out.

If he hadnt travelled or something like that then our luck was really bad with none of the 3 players who could make a difference featuring.

Positivies ? No suspension for cabs and moussoko

  • 101 Lilongwe Geordie // Dec 5, 2013 at 6:39 AM

*Obertan came on, although following his display I’m sure many would have preferred him to come or stay off.

  • 102 John Tudor // Dec 5, 2013 at 6:40 AM

they probably went by 52 seater coach you cant tell me he did not could not have a full selection of all positions with him

  • 103 cyprus // Dec 5, 2013 at 6:45 AM

Didn’t know that regarding HBA. I guess a loss was on the cards, but I’m disappointed in the manner, tbh. AP bringing on Obertan was like deja vous. Sissoko gives him a sitter, only goalie to beat, three on two, Remy available too on the right, he forgets to take the ball with him! Deja vous man.
But, we did have a pen! Shot goal bound, defender ‘saves’ with the arm, even inadvertently.

  • 104 Lilongwe Geordie // Dec 5, 2013 at 6:55 AM

Like I said, I didn’t see the game, it wasn’t on over here so haven’t seen the pen incident or the Shelvey/Debuchy thing. But Talk Sh*te commentator said it wasn’t a pen, but a definite red, and it seems a bit of a split on here as to whether it was a pen or not.

From what I heard it sounded like we retreated to the edge of our own box. I’d guess that he was trying to use the same tactics as against Chelsea, let them have the early play, and we will grow into the game get opportunities on the break and if we keep it tight first half then take a bit more upon ourselves to press the game in the second half. If that is the case, then the late goal completely ruined it, and as people have been saying Pards doesn’t do back up plans.

Personally I would have preferred us to get at them from the off, they were playing there 3rd game in 6 days so for me it is much less about formation and more about the instructions he gave the players.

  • 105 cyprus // Dec 5, 2013 at 7:04 AM

On the red, it didn’t matter by then… But, the pen, picture this, forget it’s NUFC: Remy carefully sets up his shot, bullets it in a gap, goalie beaten. Defender’s arm is not in an unnatural position, BUT it’s not ‘stuck’ on his body and it does save a goal. He wasn’t close to Remy, it was the power of the shot that made him not know anything about the shot. That’s a pen… BTW, we haven’t had any this year (I think).

  • 106 Lilongwe Geordie // Dec 5, 2013 at 7:11 AM

I just read’s match write up, and they say a blatant hand ball.

Time to dust ourselves down and prepare for Man Utd on Saturday – a United that will definitely be missing Rooney, and probably RVP. If we do what we did there last year and get at them(when we lost 4-3), I can’t see them responding all that well.

  • 107 Marty-Toon // Dec 5, 2013 at 7:35 AM

    Poor day at the office,
We will need a big lift for the weekend as our lads never got into 3rd gear last night.
Playing at Old Trafford should be enough to get our boys in the mood.

  • 108 thai-mag // Dec 5, 2013 at 7:37 AM

I was watching game in a bar in Thailand 4am here, when Pardew brought on Obertan I thought time for bed wont get nothing here, he may as well just have took a player off and not put anyone on, Pardew makes some crap subs but that one takes the biscuit

  • 109 Scottishmag1 // Dec 5, 2013 at 7:40 AM

Debuchy is not suspended, he has served his one match suspension for his five yellows, thats his first since

  • 110 Transfer Sage // Dec 5, 2013 at 7:46 AM

I thought we were poor last night, nowhere near good enough, no intensity apart from the odd 5 minute spell.

It happens though, teams can have off days, it’s not nice to watch but that’s the nature of sport really.

However watching everton and martinez i will take back my criticism of the man, he is a better manager than I thought. Still think he didn’t do well at wigan, signed some poor players, too many who offered little defensively but at everton he has bought/loaned well and has them looking a very good side.

Swansea made us look very ordinary last night and if they’d had Michu and Bony let’s be honest it could have been five or six.

My prediction before the start of the season was best finish 8th and worst 13th and I’ve seen nothing to change my mind. City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, ManU, Spurs will imo defo finish above us and Everton almost defo as well. That leaves 8th as the best we can achieve.

    That’s the reality imo.
