Lyon President – Gomis Could Leave in January

1:13 pm, Thursday, December 5th, 2013 by Ed Harrison · 16 Comments

Bafe Gomis is probably a Newcastle target for the January transfer window, although it appears that West Ham will be in for any striker that’s available, after Andy Carroll is injured again, and hasn’t played yet this season.

Bafe Gomis - Newcastle target next month

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas tried to sell his striker in the summer, when he had one year left on his five-year contract at the club, and Aulas was so intent on Bafe leaving that he had him train with the reserve side.

But since Gomis will be available as a free agent in the summer the Lyon president will get what he can for the French International striker, and with West Ham looking for a striker they could well be willing to overpay (yet again) for a striker they desperately need.

Although whether Gomis will think it’s a good move to make to a club that is struggling for survival in the Premier League, and currently 4th bottom – remains to be seen.

But Aulas thinks there could be some clubs come in for Gomis next month, as he had this to say in Voetbal Primeur:

“It can’t be ruled out that there are bids for Gomis.” “We’ll see.” “We are not going to sign new players in January. Maybe there will be small things which are changed, but not more than that.”

Newcastle were willing to pay close to £9M for the striker last summer, so given that it seems reasonable that Newcastle to be interested in the striker, who could cost less than half of that amount a short six months later.

But you never know with Newcastle, but it should at least be interesting to see how Joe Kinnear performs in his job as Director of Football at Newcastle, after having a disastrous start in the job last summer.

    REPOST

    Bills Son

When ppl like yourself and other have been getting carried away with wins I have stated consistently that we haven’t played well in any of the matches. The was highlighted yesterday my friend!! You can read through my comments on the blog, bottom line is the wins masked the Jekyll & Hyde performances and fans soaked it up, November was a very good month but December will be reality under Pards!! We talk about consistency from players, think the same needs to be said about the tactics!!

The Gomis saga has become boring, if we are to believe what was reported the agents fee’s were to problem in the summer and will be again

No one is saying that when we win it’s down to luck at all, what we are saying is that it was amazing that Pardew stood there and did nothing to change the way the game was going apart from introducing TWO defenders and a player who’s standard is barely that of the PL.

He needed to change the formation for us to get a foot hold in midfield as Tiote and Cabaye were simply being swamped and spent their time chasing shadows

I have no problems that we lose. It’s the way we lose that i have a problem with.

We could not have played against swansea the way we played against Norwich and WBA. Sadly pardew could not have figured that out.

I understand sticking with winning team but Horses for courses is the concept I would have gone with.

We had no creativity from midfield. I can’t believe Pardew didn’t start Anita and didn’t have Marveaux at least on the bench. Marveaux can make a difference. Why take Santon off for Haidara? It’s a joke, unless Santon was feeling ill etc.

Willo had to go off because he was costing us goals.

This is why we need to sign at least 3 new players next month. A striker, winger/playmaker and centre back are essential.

I still think we have a better squad than Man Utd and expect us to beat them on sat.

Is Debuchy suspended for the Man Utd game?

    Debuchy not suspended,

Both Marveaux and obertan played against chelsea in U-21s

Still obertan was on the bench and marveaux not.

Marveaux got 6 assists last season, cn’t believe he can’t get higher in pecking order than Sammy and Gaby

JackButler – Pardew did change formation half way through the first half. He didn’t bring on Anita but he moved Goofy to the right, put Reme on the left and moved Cissoko to the middle supporting the striker Ameobi but also dropping back to make a 5 man midfield. It was after this change that we started to get a foothold in the game.

I didn’t think we played as bad as many say. Swansea give most teams the run around with their fast passing style of play. We were chasing shadows most of the game but if we had taken our chances and Sissoko had been better with his passing decisions we would’ve taken something from that game. Shelvey should’ve been sent off, the first penalty claim should’ve stood being goal bound. Not so sure about the push on Goofy.
I thought Tiote was just a little behind in his movement, he was left in no man’s land plenty. Anita would’ve suited the role of linking up with forwards and interrupting their passing game more.

Debuchy isn’t suspended the daft commentator thought it was 6 but rule is 5 cards!! I’m glad you can see Willo’s mistakes because the majority are blaming Colo when really Willo is making the errors. Cancelling Douglas deal doesn’t look to clever now, we need a dominating force in the air but an upgrade on Willo.

I agree mate the manner in which we lost was very displeasing, 2-0 down I would have said to Sammy, go on son nothing lose but everything to gain cause them some problems. First change should have been Anita for Shola or change of formation!! It seems we prepare for game with plan A and when that fails all else goes with it

I think bottom line is even when Pardew is doing well another gaffe(s) is / are never far away and is why he has never really done anything of note in his entire career.

  • 12 barkel // Dec 5, 2013 at 1:39 PM

No Debuchy isn’t suspended, he’s just back from suspension.

    Our Toon,

Do you actually read my posts?

I haven’t been getting carried away with the wins. I’ve consistently said since before the start of the season that the best I expect us to finish is 8th and the worst 13th and I stick by that.

All I’ve said over the past few weeks is that we should enjoy the wins when they come unlike some on here who still moan whether we win or lose.

  • 14 Cantbuyye // Dec 5, 2013 at 1:42 PM

    @Kets
Haidara played excellent when he was on. Me personally would say he’s better than Santon. He’s stronger, braver, probably equal paced and he isn’t even match fit. I think Santon is technically gifted but lacks positioning at times. Goofy supporting him in the last 3 or 4 games has made him look better.

  • 15 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 5, 2013 at 1:50 PM

Santon and Haidara are both decent. Haidara is probably better defensively. Marveaux must be banging Pardew’s wife. It’s a disgrace how he doesn’t play.

Shelvey just barged Willo off the ball and nearly scored. Willo had a nightmare. We could’ve got Douglas in for free. There’s still weaklinks in Willo, Shola and Obertan in the team or on the bench.

I can’t beleive we are still in for this player. Hes nothign special in regards to the strikers out there
hes not even top ten scorers in the french ligue or even his own team
goal ratio so far of 4 goals every 200 odd minutes
    hes 28
hes not in the french squad
if west ham are sniffing about hes not worth it
would rather spend the money on someone decent, bit younger than 28, and maybe someone who has a track record of playing well for different clubs or proven in the premier league.
if we get him for a couple of mill hes worth playing than shola and cisse mayyyyybe at a punt or roll of the dice
but we have a team now of unreal stars. just need two unreal hungry strikers
that hereeveen lad is good, figobobornoson
    shane long
or even splash the cash and invest in an unreal striker then we would be a serious threat
