Bafe Gomis is probably a Newcastle target for the January transfer window, although it appears that West Ham will be in for any striker that’s available, after Andy Carroll is injured again, and hasn’t played yet this season.
Bafe Gomis – Newcastle target next month
Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas tried to sell his striker in the summer, when he had one year left on his five-year contract at the club, and Aulas was so intent on Bafe leaving that he had him train with the reserve side.
But since Gomis will be available as a free agent in the summer the Lyon president will get what he can for the French International striker, and with West Ham looking for a striker they could well be willing to overpay (yet again) for a striker they desperately need.
Although whether Gomis will think it’s a good move to make to a club that is struggling for survival in the Premier League, and currently 4th bottom – remains to be seen.
But Aulas thinks there could be some clubs come in for Gomis next month, as he had this to say in Voetbal Primeur:
“It can’t be ruled out that there are bids for Gomis.” “We’ll see.” “We are not going to sign new players in January. Maybe there will be small things which are changed, but not more than that.”
Newcastle were willing to pay close to £9M for the striker last summer, so given that it seems reasonable that Newcastle to be interested in the striker, who could cost less than half of that amount a short six months later.
But you never know with Newcastle, but it should at least be interesting to see how Joe Kinnear performs in his job as Director of Football at Newcastle, after having a disastrous start in the job last summer.
