Newcastle To Sign One Of These Two Strikers In January

8:33 am, Thursday, December 5th, 2013 by Ed Harrison · 15 Comments

Newcastle United are expected to move for Heerenveen striker Alfred Finnbogason in January, and the 24 year-old is currently top scorer in the Eredivisie with 14 league goals from just 11 games.

Alan Pardew has also expressed an interest in West Brom’s Shane Long,  but it would be a surprise if his club doesn’t take up the one year option they have on the player, rather than making him available as a free agent in the summer, at the end of his current three-year deal.

The other striker Newcastle could be after is Bafe Gomis, who is a free agent next summer, and was Newcastle’s top target in the summer, when we failed to sign him because of some exorbitant fees being asked by his agent.

But Joe Kinnear must bring some new players into the club in January, to help strengthen the squad, especially after Newcastle are doing well this season, and are currently in 7th position in the league table.

Bafe Gomis – Newcastle target in January?

Newcastle could face a challenge from West Ham for the Iceland International striker, as the Hammers are in a struggle against relegation, especially after being beaten 1-0 at Crystal Palace on Tuesday night, and they are desperate for some scoring power up front, with Andy Carroll being out all season – so far – with another injury.

So it seems to be between Bafe Gomis and Alfred Finnbogason, as to who Newcastle bring in during January, and the decision will depend on what kind of deal Newcastle can negotiate for each striker.

So nothing new there.

Either one would look a decent acquisition but Newcastle, who definitely need to bring in a striker in January, and then maybe another one in the summer, if Loic Remy signs for another club.

What do you think?

lol Ashley won’t spend if we’re in the top half.

Finbogasson for me if its a choice between him and Gomis! Dutch league is tricky to scout from though, its a league where Aphonso Alves was the standout a few years ago, yet its also produced Van persie, van nistelrooy etc

would love the finnbogason but even lionel messi cant fix a defence that concedes 3 vs mediocre teams like hull and swansea.

On last night, i think Pardew got his team selection wrong! swansea had no height up front but so much pace , thought it was definately a game MYM should have started.
Also thought Anita should have played! Swansea lack physical presence and hes very quick and is useful in intercepting passes, would have helped us get the ball back!

Feel sorry for the away fans again.
It’s like last season all over.
A cold night in Wales to watch Pardew motivate our in form internationals to fever pitch and see them play their exhilarating brand of football that Pardew’s teams are renowned for.

At least Pardew has one of his favourite excuses lined up for the weekend … these midweek games …

this season has been packed with strange results, all teams have lost against sides you wouldn’t have thought they could lose to.

    TDS

for me swansea edged both halves yesteday, closer than the scoreline suggested but we didn’t really do anything except the remy chance, apart from that it was poor upfront….we didn’t create any other good opportunities.

TDSarf – Re the penalty claims I agree with you about the second one was only a slight nudge but the first claim was a blatant penalty. Other angles show the defender’s arm is nearly 90 degrees out from his body and it also stops the ball going in the net – if that is not a penalty for handball then I don’t know what is?

fingobasson first choice for me followed by gomis.

thinking a lot of teams are starting to know if we pass back to pressure krul now as he will just kick it out with it happening over the past 3 games !
he needs training sessions on that alone as i dont think i’ve seen a goalie with as bad a kick (maybe we should rest him a little in case we are burning him out again)

Hard to believe that Krul doesn’t practice his distribution.
Same with Jonas and his crossing and shooting.

Yet neither has improved since their first appearance in b&w.

    1. i fear pards is playing colo in an attempt to try convince him that he’s needed and 1st choice (which imo he’s 3rd choice) which could mean that pards will not be getting a cb when colo leaves.

    2. the goofy penalty claim ! imo the way it looked to me was that goofy got the ball but then williamson went through the back of him hence a late tackle = foul imo i cant see any other way esp with how easy some went down both in that game and the game before (inc remy in our team) but there was genuin contact to throw him off balance.

3.the head butt ! deb’s needs a promotion although it didnt do us any favours >.< if he had have gone down like every other player in the prem would have it would have (with a fair ref) been a red but the lad did not react hence the ref must not have seen it and shelf-ish gets away with it scott free.

    @8 hattem

i know it does feel like that for 90% of the time ! it beg’s the question what would he be like if he knew how to kick or what would the team be like with someone who could kick playing.

    croftus

Elliott has great distribution compared to Krul.
Guess if they ticked all the boxes 100% they wouldn’t be playing for us …

Johann Berg Gudmundsson is also an Icelandic striker who is out of contract at the end of the year. Left footed plays on the right.
