Anita Gets Start At Old Trafford In 4-3-3 Formation

Alan Pardew has given Vurnon Anita a well deserved start at Old Trafford today, as Newcastle revert to a 4-3-3 formation against Manchester United.

Shola Ameobi goes to the bench, and that’s the only change from the side that started at the Liberty Stadium on Wednesday night, and we were way off in thinking Massadio Haidara would get a start – and the young Frenchman is not even on the bench today.

The midfield three is strong – with Cheick Tiote, Yohan Cabaye and Vurnon Anita – who gets his big chance today.

And it’s good to see Jonas Gutierrez back on the bench today – along with Rob Elliot, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Gabriel Obertan, Hatem Ben Arfa, Papiss Cisse and Shola Ameobi, so it seems Papiss has recovered from the heel problem he had that forced him to miss the game on Wednesday night.

And Gabby Obertan may get some playing time against one of his former clubs.

For the Red Devils Robin van Persie starts up front, but Wayne Rooney is suspended for this game.

Newcastle need a result today, but to get that we’ll have to play a lot better than we did in that first half on Wednesday night.

Looks like we’ll be trying to control midfield. Not a bad plan tbh

In Pardew I trust? Howay the lads!!!!!!

  • 3 toonbrother // Dec 7, 2013 at 11:53 AM

coloshitty is like the proverbial pig and anita the proverbial lipstick. conceding 3 goals would be a result

  • 4 bills-son // Dec 7, 2013 at 11:53 AM

    I think we’ll play more like 451 than 433.

  • 5 Shadow_Shearer // Dec 7, 2013 at 11:57 AM

Too late 2 be playing a 4-3-3. Should have done that against Norwich and west brom so they flay 4-4-2 could have bein fresh for today the way it worked against Chelsea and Tottenham.
Still no HBA in the team?? At this rate he will be leaving in the summer as well as cabaye.

  • 6 Oleg G // Dec 7, 2013 at 11:59 AM

As always, I am going to support the team the whole 90 mins + extra time. Always believe in the team, even when we are playing like sh**.

This game is no different. We have a chance to win it, just like any other team that plays against any other team in the PL. The league is open. Man U are strong, but they are not unbeatable. It depends on us just as much as it depends on them.

    HWTL!!!!

  • 7 toonbrother // Dec 7, 2013 at 12:00 PM

hard to believe what a dumb human being pardew is.
He had a winning team. 2-0 chelsea, 1-0 spurs, He’d been handed a winning formula.x. All he had to do was use it. Instead he looks for the only way to |f**ck it all up and turn us back into a relegation bound side.

Using names like “Coloshitty” makes you sound like a child who is doing an impression of Di Canio, who is doing an impression of a child.

  • 11 Shadow_Shearer // Dec 7, 2013 at 12:04 PM

As much as I like Anita, he should be on the bench. We should have tioti and sissoko protecting da defence with there strength so we can keep it solid, & cabaye playing behind the striker for creativity and through balls. Pardew better now what he’s doing here, (which I doubt) or else he’s gonna get slated for his tactics.

  • 12 Oleg G // Dec 7, 2013 at 12:05 PM

Lets support the team now and criticize as the game develops and of course (as always) after the whistle.

Lets see what will happen. We were surprised before, give the lads a chance.

Hatem is on the bench, can come in. Remy and Goofy are playing.

Unfortunately Pards has no balls to put Colo on the bench. But it is always tough when it comes to your captain.

United will play as usual with fire in their belly. They are still the Fergie team. His fire is still burning, slowly doused by Moyes though.

    United 3 – Newcastle 0 Persie (2) Nani (1)

We all have our opinions. I think that if Yanga and Willo were doing ok, putting Colo in was not the best thing to do. But again, he is the captain so it is difficult to leave your captain on the bench when he is fit. It gives a weird atmosphere I guess. The captain suppose to be on the pitch. I just don’t believe that Colo should be the captain anymore after he wanted to leave.

If anyone is looking for a link. The Acestream links are the best you can get online. When you are playing against Man U, there are too many links hhh…

I suggest Bloodzeed [EN]. If your internet speed cannot handle it, then use Dazsports Ace HD.

    hatem786 // Dec 7, 2013 at 12:13 PM

Yep. There is the dilemma. Do you keep your team as it is (Yanga Willo) until we lose, or start giving goals away, or do you bring your captain back. It is a choice he made. So far, statistically it was a bad decision. I think Willo is an average cb too, but he is doing his job. Yanga and Colo are defenders who like to play with the ball. Sometimes you do need a defender who is doing just that minimum, that robotic action of kicking the ball away. I think Yanga is a better defender than Colo, and as Colo and Yanga are more the same compare to Willo, one of them should be on the bench and I think Yanga should be playing. But again, a problem.

  • 33 nufc7lad // Dec 7, 2013 at 12:25 PM

Hate seeing Sissoko on the wing.
This guy is a beast of a box to box midfielder
We are not getting the best out of him out wide
HBA is natural width and should be ahead of Anita to start on the right
This could be a diamond formation tho

    Anita

    Tiote sissoko

    Cabaye

    Remy gouffran

Cisse on for remy on 60 mins
Ben Arfa on for Anita on 70 mins
Yanga Mbiwa on for Williamson on 80 mins to grind out the draw

Surely Marveux is a better option than Obertan on the bench?

Our bench is still too weak! Obertan should never get near it, he’s awful. He’s had way too many chances to prove himself and failed every time. Strolla is the same but we all know he’s going no where and I must admit this season at least he’s mobile and offering something ‘on’ the pitch.

We need to replace at least these two players in January if we want to push on. Get the replacements in then flog these two in the summer.

We need options from the bench, game changers. HBA and Cisse do that to some extent, we need more of the same.

We can no longer ‘carry’ bad players along for the sake of it. Ship them out and get us some quality.

  • 46 Mister Tuff // Dec 7, 2013 at 12:39 PM

Not feeling too optimistic today, Man U have not yet sorted out their best team under Moyes so could be beatable. We only stand a chance if we get at them from the off – sitting back- will result in RVP having a field day. Hope I’m wrong but I think we’re going to lose. How the hell does Obertan make the bench- I just cannot fathom it out.

  • 47 Oleg G // Dec 7, 2013 at 12:39 PM

    *download

Try Dazsports Ace HD first. If it works, and Bloodzeed [EN] doesn’t work, then your internet connection is too slow for Bloodzeed. If any of them don’t work at all, then you didn’t “allow” the software to work with the firewall.

In general, it takes sometimes some minutes to buffer, then goes much better.

Also of course. Don’t download nothing or upload nothing during the game.

    Benji84 // Dec 7, 2013 at 12:39 PM

Try different acestream links. Not all are actually working as you need people to share the link while watching. So if there are no people to share, the stream won’t work. (Sorry if I am explaining too much. don’t know how much you know about it).

I am watching the Dazsports Ace HD link. Works flawlessly.

I’ll try the Bloodzeed to see if it works for me.

    For Benji: http://forum.wiziwig.eu/threads/81617-Acestream-Settings-%28How-To-Stop-Annoying-Buffering%29

    1) In the settings you need to set the TS maximum upload speed to the maximum, leave the value “0″ (default).

    2) In the setting of TS increase buffer Live 2-3 times (20-30 seconds) or more.

    3) Then, increase number of peers in 2 times. Maximum number of connections – 400, the maximum number of connections to the stream – 100

  • 53 Ancientcoptic // Dec 7, 2013 at 12:43 PM

No complaints from me about the selection and tactics.

If you do not go to Man Utd to win, you are almost certainly going to lose anyway.

The Man Utd back-line is too big for Ameobi to have an effect on… slice & dice is the way to go.

Pardew smells blood here, I respect that.

Yellow for Chich. Good for Colo there. Didn’t touch him.

  • 109 Oleg G // Dec 7, 2013 at 1:31 PM

If more players don’t come up during a counter attack. It is better just slow it down then, because with 2-3 players against 5-6, you cannot score on the counter attack. Those 2-3 players that are running forward are getting tired, and no result from all that running. So decide. Or more players running together, or slow down the play.

  • 110 clinath@ed // Dec 7, 2013 at 1:32 PM

    What a ball

  • 111 Oleg G // Dec 7, 2013 at 1:33 PM

Not bad, I have to say.

  • 113 colwell // Dec 7, 2013 at 1:34 PM

    Remy’s pass to debuchy… Wow.

  • 117 Benji84 // Dec 7, 2013 at 1:36 PM

i cant believe how crap united look. I know there squad is ordinary but seriously if we had a bit more class in the midfield and up front we be at leat 1 up

  • 118 Tsunki // Dec 7, 2013 at 1:36 PM

Not much to complain about so far. Far better than the other day. I will take it if it stays like this.

  • 119 ilovetoon8788 // Dec 7, 2013 at 1:36 PM

Debuchy is turning out to be the finest right back in the league. What a transformation.

  • 120 Oleg G // Dec 7, 2013 at 1:37 PM

    Good:
    1. Tiote playing very well.
    2. Willo defending really good.
    3. We are looking good in the middle of the pitch.

    Bad:
    1. Horrible counter attacks. No planning. No players running without the ball.
    2. Giving the ball away too easily in attack.
    3. Unnecessary crosses that go nowhere and we lose the ball instead of continue pushing them back and making them get tired while defending so they won’t have the straight to counter attack us.

Man U are looking better than they are because we are giving them too much respect.

Tiote made only 2 mistakes and is the best player for us in this first half.

  • 121 Mister Tuff // Dec 7, 2013 at 1:37 PM

Well we’re holding our own – probably Man U slightly more dangerous. If we keep going we could sneak one here. all in all so far a decent display.

  • 122 manxpie // Dec 7, 2013 at 1:38 PM

played well so far tiote is looking the rock and dm that we know he can be
another shout for willo winning everything collo aswell
sisko needs to sort his 1st touch out tho
anita not been in it at all but the teams working well with him in there if that makes sense :)
can sniff us winning this tho with the the right subs maybe its arfa’s chance after 60 to remind us of wat he’s about!

  • 123 NUFCarter // Dec 7, 2013 at 1:39 PM

Sissokos been great. He shouldnt go off? that piece of skill he did earlier in the half was sublime!

  • 124 Cool Hand Luke // Dec 7, 2013 at 1:39 PM

    Poor Ginola must be freezing.

  • 125 Oleg G // Dec 7, 2013 at 1:40 PM

Arfa in only if he is willing, committed, to defend as well as attack. I love the player and I am a huge fan. But he can win and lose a game. When he is losing that ball in the middle of the pitch and gives the other team a counter attack, that can be the end of us against Man U.

  • 126 Laurent Robert 32 // Dec 7, 2013 at 1:40 PM

Man Utd are like when Superman lost his powers and got beaten up in the diner.

    Managers make the difference.

  • 127 Ciaran // Dec 7, 2013 at 1:41 PM

Need more of a plan when we are counter attacking but defensively we have been sound. Willo and Tiote doing the business and I have to say that I am liking how Santon seems to have more balance in his game.

One down side would be that Remy is cutting a lonely figure up top, and we would need more support for him. But to do that we may need to sacrifice numbers in midfield and risk losing the battle in there that we are currently winning.

I reckon we should stick with what we have and hope to sneak one. Not overly ambitious, but Man U do look sharper in the final third than we do, and I feel they are one decent pass away from undoing us.

  • 128 Oleg G // Dec 7, 2013 at 1:41 PM

BT don’t have bigger mics? Those are Clown size mics :)

  • 129 nufc7lad // Dec 7, 2013 at 1:43 PM

Ben Arfa for Cabaye at half time

Cabaye is on a yellow, can’t risk a sending off today

    We need another attacking outlet

Evra looked shaky at the end

I say we let hatem rip him apart

  • 130 Oleg G // Dec 7, 2013 at 1:43 PM

Shocking. Just shocking how Remy is there, and Cabaye, Sissoko, Tiote and Santon are just standing there. Not even walking, standing. What are they thinking? How a football player can just stand?

  • 131 toonicle // Dec 7, 2013 at 1:43 PM

Would like to see Benny come on soon, they are frustrated and a bit shaky at the back and he could do some damage.

agree on santon ruddy he’s certainly learning his full job now, maybe from debuchy wat a player he is btw and to think some including me thought we’d bought a dud from his 1st few games
i think if it stays the same with 20 or so to go we should go for it wen there fans are getting restless

  • 137 bills-son // Dec 7, 2013 at 1:47 PM

Sissoko is coming into a bit of form and I’d love to see what he could do makimg those runs through the middle instead of from the flanks.

Tiote has been magnificent just a pity that he got that daft yellow card. Even stupider yellow that Cabaye picked up.

  • 138 Ancientcoptic // Dec 7, 2013 at 1:48 PM

Williamson MOTM so far for me.

Tiote has been great at bullying Man Utd, but a few of his back-passes have been a bit wild.

Williamson has been (dare I say it) world class in the first half.

  • 139 Oleg G // Dec 7, 2013 at 1:48 PM

    toonicle // Dec 7, 2013 at 1:43 PM

The problem is, that if Benny will get the ball, and runs with it, as we saw in the first half, players don’t run without the ball, so he will find himself against 3 players, with Ramy 30 meters from here, with 2 players around him. And then what? Losing the ball. The best that can happen is that he will be fouled, or pass the ball back and we will start a new attack. But we are crossing the ball when we have only Goofy and Remy in there against a GK + 4-5 players.

The problem is that the way we attack is wrong. Hatem can shine only if the way we play will actually reflect our straights and if we will play like that, Hatem or no Hatem, will have a much better chance to score.

    No movement = no goals.
Crosses for a players against 4-5 players – no goals.
Trying to rush the attack when you don’t have support = no goals.

Well done Pardew, you cannot fault the tactics there. Some great performances on the pitch too, Tiote, Debuchy, Remy, but my own pick was Willo.

  • 250 Ted Bundy // Dec 7, 2013 at 2:39 PM

Once again, amends made for a poor showing last time out!

    Buzzing!

    TOOOOOOOOOOOON ARRRRRRRRRMYYYYY!

  • 251 Mister Tuff // Dec 7, 2013 at 2:40 PM

Best game of the season -good tactics and subs.

  • 252 toonking // Dec 7, 2013 at 2:40 PM

  • 254 bills-son // Dec 7, 2013 at 2:40 PM

Well done Pardew, well fkn done son.

  • 255 Tsunki // Dec 7, 2013 at 2:40 PM

Just……..wow! David Moves certainly knows Cabayes name!

  • 256 Ancientcoptic // Dec 7, 2013 at 2:41 PM

Th camera turning to the packed Newcastle section going crazy after the final whistle = magical… that will be burned into my memory for forever. Old Trafford half empty and scalped… Beautiful.

  • 257 Tsunki // Dec 7, 2013 at 2:41 PM

    David Moves? Freudian slip haha

  • 258 toonbrother // Dec 7, 2013 at 2:41 PM

i’ll hold my hand up and give credit to pardew for the Anita. He helped us boss the midfield. Great game Great win. Tiote MOTM

  • 259 Big Pappa Cissé // Dec 7, 2013 at 2:41 PM

I will take a defeat at Swanse to outplay Man U on their patch anyday :) .

4-5-1 or 4-3-3 away from home works brilliantly with Cabaye, Tiote & Anita . Not only did we outplay them, we deserved the win .

Oh Moyes, you are going to be sack in the morning !

I bit cocky for someone who was happy to lose, don’t you think “true toon” ?

  • 261 Charlietoon // Dec 7, 2013 at 2:41 PM

Sweet Jesus what an awesome victory. Up at 4.40am for the game in California and could not be happier. Great team work ethic, great tactics and subs from Pards and a great strike from Yohan!

  • 262 Our Toon // Dec 7, 2013 at 2:42 PM

Massive win, credit pards for changing to the 4-5-1 a few of us were asking for that against Swansea!! Team look much better in that system!! Tiote Anita fantastic in midfield, colo and willo looked more solid with the 3 midfielders in front of them, santon had a really good game!! Howay the lads

  • 263 Ted Bundy // Dec 7, 2013 at 2:42 PM

Hard pressed to pick a MOM, but prime candidates have to be the back four: Debuchy, Willo, Colo and Santon (who I have criticized heavily recently), take your pick in my eyes.

Each one of them out there played their part though.

  • 264 colwell // Dec 7, 2013 at 2:42 PM

Pards take a bow son could of easily of gone defensive but didn’t took the game too them and got what was deserved

  • 265 manxpie // Dec 7, 2013 at 2:42 PM

and toonbrother how about that for a performance from collo!!??

  • 266 Black and White with an army lol // Dec 7, 2013 at 2:42 PM

one of the best game iv’e watch so far, well done Pardew and the lads superb display and the tactics was top notch

    Outstanding just outstanding.

  • 271 toonking // Dec 7, 2013 at 2:44 PM

my MOTM for that game is debuchy or cabaye.

  • 272 ~Anita One Bites The Dust~ // Dec 7, 2013 at 2:44 PM

That has to be the longest, I have seen a team keep possession in the corner of the pitch to kill the game.

3 corners and a free kick?

  • 273 Oleg G // Dec 7, 2013 at 2:44 PM

Big Pappa Cissé // Dec 7, 2013 at 2:41 PM

Exactly. 3 points are 3 points and before the Norwich game, everyone including me were saying we will win against Norwich. It is much better to get those 3 points this way I think. Although to be purely statistical about it. We should have won the Swansea game as well as we have a better team, so we could have expected also 4 and 6 points from these 2 games after seeing Man U’s level this season.

Anyway, a great great victory. Hope this will give us the push to continue our form that has been really good so far this season.

  • 274 NUFCarter // Dec 7, 2013 at 2:45 PM

We were at Old trafford, we WON, kept a CLEAN SHEET and limited them to NO threatening chances. I am over the moon again this season.

  • 275 manxpie // Dec 7, 2013 at 2:45 PM

our toon come on fella anita wasn’t in the game till the end so pardew was more than justified to keep the same winning team vs swansea!

  • 276 Big Pappa Cissé // Dec 7, 2013 at 2:46 PM

Sissoko & Debuchy have the right hand side on lockdown .

  • 277 ToonDarnSarf // Dec 7, 2013 at 2:46 PM

Excellent team performance! Even Ben Arfa did exactly what we’ve even demanding from him. Came on, held up the ball and used his strength and skill to use up valuable time. Colo was magnificent time and time again, Debuchy especially made some excellent runs but everyone worked hard. No weak links!

Well done to the lads! Still think we’re on for top 8. Any of the doom mongers want to revise their predictions of struggling against relegation? :-)

  • 278 Oleg G // Dec 7, 2013 at 2:46 PM

    toonking // Dec 7, 2013 at 2:44 PM

Deb lost many balls on the right in the first half with his crosses. Did a good job, but not more than Tiote. Tiote was the boss today.
Cabaye? except the goal he didn’t do much. Was very average most of the game and started the game very aggressively and got that unnecessary yellow card.

  • 279 NUFCarter // Dec 7, 2013 at 2:47 PM

Those fans at old trafford are gonna be there all night

  • 280 Ancientcoptic // Dec 7, 2013 at 2:47 PM

The Newcastle fans are still in Old Trafford singing their hearts out.

Old Trafford has been taken over.

  • 281 Big Pappa Cissé // Dec 7, 2013 at 2:47 PM

The extra body in midfield especially away from home works wonders.

  • 282 Spuggy // Dec 7, 2013 at 2:47 PM

What a fabulous win! Well done pards and players.

What are catchy, Toonbro and rotonda gonna do this weekend now? Poor boys.

  • 283 Tsunki // Dec 7, 2013 at 2:47 PM

Da mighty Boosh, Sissoko or Tiote…back four aah they all played well.

Hands up Pards spot on. You DO learn.

  • 284 toonking // Dec 7, 2013 at 2:47 PM

we probably could have scored even more have we been able to use shola in our starting 11 remy was quiet but shola was probably needing the rest.
pardew rather than starting HBA or cisse in his place picks the next best on form player anita and we were much better on the counter attack.

  • 285 Black and White with an army lol // Dec 7, 2013 at 2:47 PM

Sissoko & Tiote are my man of the match

  • 286 Oleg G // Dec 7, 2013 at 2:47 PM

    NUFCarter // Dec 7, 2013 at 2:45 PM

“no threatening chances” aren’t you exaggerating there a bit. First 10 minutes they were all over us, and had 2 chances in the first half too. And the header from Evra was a massive chance.
We were lucky to stay in the game in those minutes.

  • 287 coatesy17 // Dec 7, 2013 at 2:47 PM

Looking for a supposedly world class dutch striker Last seen at 12.45 being put into Mike Williamson’s back pocket….

  • 288 manxpie // Dec 7, 2013 at 2:48 PM

tiote for me from the first minute he made to hard tackles and 3 great forward passes IN THE 1ST MINUTE!!! :)

  • 289 Ciaran // Dec 7, 2013 at 2:48 PM

Credit must go to Alan Pardew who executed an absolutely perfect game plan. There was a risk of us sitting back on our 1-0, but we played a smart game, completely dominated the midfield battle Santon and, in particular, Debuchy were fantastic.

Absolutely buzzing! Enjoy yourselves this evening lads!

  • 290 Ted Bundy // Dec 7, 2013 at 2:48 PM

    Next 3:

    Southampton (h)
    Palace (a)
    Stoke (h)

We’ve got to kick on now, be as business like as we was today and who knows where we could be at the halfway point.

  • 291 Ciaran // Dec 7, 2013 at 2:51 PM

What is happening? Pardew just took the blame for the Swansea result… 1st time in 3 years he took the blame for a bad result!

  • 292 Blackley and Brownlie // Dec 7, 2013 at 2:52 PM

Marty toon says really poor passing today. Wtf! Great passing game. Play like that and the sky’s the limit.
Pardew has broken some records at nufc, mostly ignominious ones, but credit today for breaking that 40 plus year record. Don’t underestimate how big that hex was. Well done son.

  • 293 Charlietoon // Dec 7, 2013 at 2:55 PM

And I think all the shitty decisions we had over the precious two games are party made up for by them getting the offside right for once for us and for not penalising us for Anitas shot stopper….cause that was going in off the post

  • 294 Charlietoon // Dec 7, 2013 at 3:00 PM

    @Ted Bundy 290
In the form we are in we should be looking at nine points from the next three, I’d be happy with 7 as a draw against Southampton at home or an away draw would hold no shame. We cant do both though and anything less would be a real shame after taking maximum points from Chelsea, Tottenham, and now Man U.
