Newcastle came storming back from the defeat at Swansea on Wednesday night to record our first win at Old Trafford in 41 years this afternoon, and make no mistake Newcastle were the better side and deserved the win today – and we’ll have to play more in these Brazil like shirts, after we also won 1-0 at White Hart Lane in these same strips.
Newcastle held Manchester United in the first half, as Alan Pardew’s game plan seemed to be working almost to perfection, and then as Manchester United opened up, so did Newcastle.
And after 61 minutes a clearance from Tim Krul down the right wing, was only headed on by Patrice Evra, and Moussa Sissoko stormed down the wing before brilliantly pulling the ball back to Yohan Cabaye, who put the ball past De Gea first time, and it was the all important first goal.
After that Newcastle still played well for those final 30 minutes, and we looked a very good side today, and fully deserved what is a historic win for Newcastle United – and make no mistake about it – this is one of Newcastle’s best wins for a long long time, and goes with our recent wins against Chelsea at home and Tottenham away – hey – maybe we do have a good team after all? 😀
Whoops – mustn’t get carried away.
Newcastle started off wearing their Brazil like strips – and looked very good as the lads got off to a good start at Old Trafford, and certainly better than at the Liberty Stadium on Wednesday night.
Good play by Moussa Sissoko on the right wing as he got by two men and crossed the ball into the box, and Loic Remy headed just over the cross-bar.
Newcastle played very well in the first half in their Brazil like strips, without creating too many opportunities, but in stoppage time of the first half Mathieu Debuchy had a couple of half chances.
First of all he found himself clear down the right and his right footed shot was well saved by David De Gea, and then shortly after that, a good Davide Santon cross into the box from he left wing was headed well by Debuchy, and again De Gea made a decent save,
The formation set up by Newcastle in the first half worked well with the five across midfield stifled a lot of the Red Devils moves, and Newcastle had passed the ball around very well in the first half, and looked a very good side.
Half time came and it was 0-0 and Newcastle were in this game, but the first goal would be all important in this game – which was close.
Manchester United raised their game at the start of the second half, and Vurnon Anita blocked a shot on the line – seemingly with his arm after the ball had hit the post – and then there was a scramble for the ball which Tim Krul came up with, and Newcastle got the free kick.
And then after 57 minutes Ben Arfa was brought into the game in place of the hard-working Yoan Gouffran, – but Man United were pressing Newcastle and putting the defense under pressure.
After 61 minutes Newcastle got the all important first goal and it was a clearance from Tim Krul down the right hand side that Evra headed the ball against Moussa, and Sissoko was away down the wing at speed, and took the ball in before cutting it back to Yohan Cabaye, who coolly smashed the ball past De Gea and Newcastle were 1-0 up.
And after that manager Alan Pardew made changes to bring on Shola Ameobi – for his experience – and Yanga-Mbiwa and Newcastle saw out the game fairly comfortably, to record what was truly a magnificent win for the Magpies, and five wins in the last six games.
There were some tremendous performances from some Newcastle players with Mike Williamson simply massive at the back for the Magpies – what a revelation Mike has been this season, and if he keeps playing like this, he better be careful, because he may even force his way into the England squad for the World Cup.
Debuchy, Tiote and Sissoko were also first class for Newcastle, and the lads executed the game plan almost perfectly.
We acknowledge every Newcastle player today for playing their hearts out for the cause – and did I say it was a magnificent win? 😀

Like valle said, if we make CL maybe MA might reward us with an actual signing. And not relegation zone spending spree signings mind you!

lol too true man. can’t wait to see his repetitive and asinine musings next week.

I think we are only four players away from having a squad that can challenge for CL football and thats where the frustration comes from.

Comment #57Always gunning for the scum to get beat. If we are to do well this season, let’s have it that we achieved it rather than other teams underachieving.
Instead of finishing 5th when Chelsea and Liverpool were rubbish, let’s finish there because we deserve to be there!

Comment #60Chelsea and Man City have the best squads. If we can sign a few good players in January, we could finish 3rd or fourth. Liverpool, Everton, Spurs and Arsenal are our competitors and then we’ve got Swansea and West Brom competing for 7th place. I expect Man Utd to finish just in the top half this season. 9th or 10th is about right. Their midfield is embarrassing.

Comment #66Right the southampton game. I don’t want to see us go 1-0 up and sit back, attack is the best form of defence. We’re still waiting for that 3, 4-0 victory. Cmon pardew show us that the we do have a lot of attacking intent and that we were unlucky to win by more today!
Howay the lads!

Humble pie? I don’t follow. I have been nothing but praising of Alan Pardew in our recent form, thought players like Willo, Tiote and Santon have been much improved and we are far beyond where I ever thought we would be in the table.
Are you mistaking me for someone like Catchy who hates Pardew? My beef is with Ashley – Ashley had no part in this victory today, so remind me why I need to eat humble pie?

Comment #68Newcastle were great today, okay man. utd are in disarray at the minute but we deserved this, unlike spurs when we were highly indebted to krul. If newcastle could just keep on producing like today at old trafford and chelsea, not getting carried away but top six a possibility come the end of season.

No it does not. Pardew is a decent manager, not a consistent top 6 manager but a decent manager who can do some good things and some baffling things in pretty much equal measure.
I also do not appreciate being told how I think and feel by some stranger on the internet.

Comment #80To be fair to Moyes he is a top manager its just following SAF was always going to be an almost impossible job for him. They have an average squad but have lost the catalyst that made them a winning squad
