A smiling Alan Pardew was delighted with the fantastic win at Old Trafford today, when Newcastle put in a disciplined performance and the lads carried out the game plan excellently, and we fully deserved our first win at Old Trafford since February, 1972 when George Best, Bobby Charlton and Dennis Law played for the Red Devils, and Stewart Barrowclough and John Tudor played for Newcastle in that game.
And it was only a week after Hereford United had knocked us out of the FA Cup in one of the big FA Cup upsets of all time.
So there’s some memories – good and bad – right there.
Yohan Cabaye – after scoring winner today
This is what the Newcastle manager said to BT Sport after the game today:
“Forty-one years we’ve been waiting to win here as a club. It was a magnificent performance,” “I know we probably won’t get the headlines because of poor old United and David Moyes – it’s a difficult result for them.”
“But we do deserve the headlines. The players were magnificent. I asked them to play very differently today to the way we’ve been winning, to keep the ball and control the game.”
“We did that even to a level that I thought was good for us; we really kept the ball well and made it difficult for them. It’s a great day for Newcastle and our fans.”
“I felt we had a good control of the game, they didn’t really have too many moments. Perhaps on the break was their biggest threat.”
Manchester United put Newcastle under pressure at the start of the second half, but once Newcastle went ahead after 61 minutes – our lads gave as good as they got.
And at the end of the game Alan Pardew went around his players and congratulated them on their fantastic efforts for the side – we’ve never seen Alan Pardew look so delighted.
A simply magnificent victory for Newcastle United today – and one to cherish for the ages.

you can’t take Sir John Hall’s account with a pinch of salt as he was the man that dealt with Ashleys representatives and was the man told the reasons for Ashley wanting to buy the club.
Yes he could have bought a club for a lot less than what he paid for us but would that club have the marketability of NUFC as there are only a few clubs in this league that have our profile overseas?
And would he have bought us if he had gone through the due diligence process and known about the financial state of the club?

Comment #84SOTON game is not going to be an easy game much like the Swans game!
…hope we have learned from that experience. Great to hear the winning formula was put away today. I am really amazed by the result and the display (from what I have been told) 😉

Comment #87jack that wasn’t my point as i said before wen ashley bought the club he spent 30 mill on players then “bought” the fans favourite manager back celebrated with the fans in his newcastle shirt
is that a person who solely baught the club to keep us midtable and piss of the fans and advertise his shop
and are we the reason his company has doubled in wealth??
no no and no
his company has doubled in wealth because of his compitition crumbeling and cheap clothing in a recession
so me being called stupid for saying so and fans saying that was the only reason for him being here is ridiculous which is proved by the facts is why i brought it up!

Comment #88manx I’ve got no idea how many shops Tubbs has got in the Far East -certainly has them in Malaysia and Hong Kong and is expanding all the time. I would think his progress has been halted somewhat by the world recession. You seem to dispute he is going to expand worldwide?

TBH mate I couldn’t care less why he bought us as I’m only concerned with what he does with us now he does own and how we perform on the pitch, but I do think his intentions have changed as a result of the abuse he took for the Keegan saga
