I agree with Bills on Benny!

He has not been good enough for us offensive and I think Benny knows that – he is never going to track back much and neither should he. He is not that kind of player.

But we have setup our gameplan wrong in the past when it comes to both the players we have and Benny in particular.

    Three reasons to be cheerful:
    1) The win yesterday (of course!);
    2) 3 valuable points for CH against the Albion;
    3) England survive another day in Adelaide (apologies to any American readers).

    Jesper there’s a first :-)

  • 4 ToonDarnSarf // Dec 8, 2013 at 9:45 AM

I thought HBA was excellent yesterday! Held up the ball, drew several men to him and didn’t look to beat 3 players to try and score. He didn’t do anything spectacular and that was the point. We just needed someone who was strong and skillful who could hold onto the ball and provide an outlet. He was even back defending! Anyone who says otherwise did not watch the game.

  • 5 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Dec 8, 2013 at 9:45 AM

    Bills…that I agree with you?

  • 6 ToonDarnSarf // Dec 8, 2013 at 9:50 AM

I also thought Colo was excellent yesterday but doesn’t seem to have got the credit in Ed’s poll. For some reason, people are against him at the moment…sad…

Willo, Tiote, Debuchy and Sissoko had very good games too. Relatively quiet down the left side but everyone did what was required!

And with Bills and Jesper agreeing the blog suddenly died ;-)

Have the neggers been scared off or are they just sleeping off hangovers after last night?

    dont be silly tds

  • 13 ToonDarnSarf // Dec 8, 2013 at 10:28 AM

Not sure. Didn’t check the earlier pages.

There are still some answers we need from the owner, so I hope people don’t completely forget that, but from a football perspective things seem to be going pretty well!

No real weak links, no significant injuries this year. I really hope we strengthen in Jan though, I don’t want us to tempt fate on injuries!

Can see Jan being a tense time…but the good news is that I can’t see any key players leaving.

  • 14 ToonDarnSarf // Dec 8, 2013 at 10:29 AM

    Morning JT!

  • 15 Black and White with an army lol // Dec 8, 2013 at 10:33 AM

i honestly don’t think we will get any one in January, but if we did one of our star player would have to be sold for this to happen.

seriously though i’m dreading it when January comes.

The last time we won at Man John Tudor scored

  • 18 ToonDarnSarf // Dec 8, 2013 at 10:56 AM

We do have the money for a Jan transfer so if someone becomes available then I expect us to sign someone. I think we could really do with another goal threat and maybe a defensive player too.

And I don’t see any of our star players leaving with the World Cup coming up. Why risk not playing or struggling for form in a new team when they’re playing regularly for a team that is doing well? Maybe HBA or Cisse might consider moving but I don’t think they will.

  • 19 tequilamag // Dec 8, 2013 at 11:02 AM

Trying to second guess what we will do in the transfer window is pretty difficult, however I would point out to posters who assume MA will not spend as we are doing well that we bought Cisse when we were in a similar position in the league 2 years ago.

Manure dirty dive players in yesterday’s game, i thought this went away after SAF retired but i guess it’s really Manure all over.

    black and white and TDS

    yes i was on yesterday,

and i did say for once he got his tactics right, and made the right choices for the team, both starting and subs,

i was proud of the fact he went for the win, and did not try to shut up shop and settle for a point,

and i was wrong yestersday when i said it the only time he has ever done that, he did the same v man u last season when we lost 4-3,

shola should not start games, he is to slow,

anita and tiote in there best positions

    cabaye playing further forward,

and like i also said yesterday, MOM was going to be tough, so many good shouts, but i went for tiote, fantastic from start to finish,

i also said before the match, that player for player, i would only swap 2 of our players for theres, vidic and RVP, for williamson and goofy

man u is living on memories of the past

  • 27 JackButler // Dec 8, 2013 at 11:37 AM

    catchy

Playing Shola has nothing to do with his pace, he holds the ball up and brings the midfield into play which no other player at the club can do, also he wins just about everything in the air.

I’ve been his biggest critic over the years, but credit where it’s due, the lad has been the most important player we’ve had over the past few week’s and through his presence Remy has had the space, time and service to score the goals that have won us the games.

It’s stupid to slate a player who’s been doing well for us

  • 28 saxonfenken // Dec 8, 2013 at 11:38 AM

    catchy
you are a genius, you should be manager.

  • 29 Slank // Dec 8, 2013 at 11:40 AM

Agree with ToonDarnSarf @ 18 in that the January transfer window may not see much transfer activity. The top players at the club, who are likely to go to the World Club, are very unlikely to want the disruption and uncertainty in a move. Also, they know that a good performance at the World Cup with the world looking on will drive up their value.

Whereas players who on the fringe in other leagues / teams may wish to move to increase their chances especially to a team doing well.

  • 30 JackButler // Dec 8, 2013 at 11:43 AM

    Slank

We still need to sign one or two players though. We desperately need another striker and need to replace Colo as I can’t see him being here after the summer

  • 31 Big Pappa Cissé // Dec 8, 2013 at 11:43 AM

Yesterday was the first time I have actually seen Pardew show some real balls and make an offensive substitution while winning away from home, at Old Trafford as well .

9 times out of 10 Pardew would have put another holding midfielder or defender on the pitch and we would have been pegged back for half an hour under constant pressure .

Ben Arfa coming on was a masterstroke as he kept them on the back foot and drew multiple players to him whenever he was is possession .

Two great results yesterday. One or us after all those years og no winning at Old Tafford and the other result againt the germ carriers.

Out of interest does anyone know if any team has ever escaped religation after only obtaining 8 points from the first 15 games. If no team has this only highlights the plight that every sunderland supporter must be going through….happy days

  • 34 ToonDarnSarf // Dec 8, 2013 at 11:53 AM

    Catchy

I’m with JB, Shola is like our Heskey at the moment. He holds the ball up, brings other players into the game and provides a physical presence. He’s not an amazing striker but he’s our player and be works hard. I’m all for getting another striker but we shouldn’t be slating our own players.

  • 35 kt97toonarmy // Dec 8, 2013 at 11:55 AM

Told u all i had a feeling we wud win at old trafford. Plus am gan to the game next week. Things are looking good. Colo proved his worth yesterday.

  • 36 catchy in norway // Dec 8, 2013 at 11:58 AM

    JB

im sorry, but i 100% do not agree with you on shola,

i would say at least 50% of his hold up play ends up in him fouling, it could be even more,

his first touch is shocking, i mean not even championship level,

you play a player like shola for one reason only, a target man for flick ons, or someone to help out on free kicks and corners in our box,

he is to heavy and way to slow

  • 37 catchy in norway // Dec 8, 2013 at 12:02 PM

    TDS

    your mad

heskey, is 10 times the player shola is, heskey runs for a start,
heskey ran the channels, heskey held the ball up, heskey made lots of decoy runs, and never got the credit he should have

in a 90 minut game of football, shola may sprint once

    trulley shocking

  • 38 JackButler // Dec 8, 2013 at 12:03 PM

    catchy

Well I guess not being able to see past your hatred for the lad has blinded you to just how important he’s been for us over the past few week’s.

  • 39 israeli_fan // Dec 8, 2013 at 12:05 PM

completely off topic but i suprised no one mentioned januajs dives.. the refree gave him about 5 free kicks in promises positions where no contact at all have been made

  • 40 israeli_fan // Dec 8, 2013 at 12:05 PM

    promising*

  • 41 JackButler // Dec 8, 2013 at 12:06 PM

    israeli_fan

Hernandez was the same, he should have been booked for the dive when Colo pulled out of the challenge

  • 42 israeli_fan // Dec 8, 2013 at 12:07 PM

anyway, yesterday was our best performance this season, man of the match was tiote, but still our most important player by far is cabaye.

the diffrence with him or without him in the team is huge

  • 43 roy // Dec 8, 2013 at 12:10 PM

The editor on Match of the day must have been a manc they made it look as if we scraped a win. Mr T was awesome along with Sissoko and Remy who led the line and ran Vidic and Evans around. Colocinni was flapping about as usual.

  • 44 israeli_fan // Dec 8, 2013 at 12:11 PM

the sad thing is that if ferguson still was the manager you just know the refree would give him that penalty.

great manager, but the officials helped him a lot

  • 45 theartfuldodger // Dec 8, 2013 at 12:25 PM

Clear dives should fetch a 1 match ban retrospectively.
Whats the logic in not having that rule.

It will be intresting to see what happens if Fergussen returns to United as manager.
Can he get back the lost fear factor.

Its really good to watch manu in their position. In countries where football isnt that popular, fans choose to support teams which win every week. Its amazing to watch their faces now. Its like they are in completely unknown territory.

Would anyone take jones, cleverly, smalling or evans ? Manu will need to spend big and in better ways than 28m for fellaini.

  • 46 catchy in norway // Dec 8, 2013 at 12:30 PM

    JB

he is simply not good enough, thats hatred, thats the simple truth

and JB , the simple fact is we may have won a few games with him in the team, but we looked a poor team in the process,

he did not start yesterday and we looked a much more complete team,

  • 47 JackButler // Dec 8, 2013 at 12:31 PM

    theartfuldodger

Jones, Cleverly, Smalling and Evans are all overrated because they player for Man UTD and that fact that three of them will go to Brazil next year with England show just how poor the national squad is

  • 48 ilovetoon8788 // Dec 8, 2013 at 12:33 PM

    Based on statistics alone.

We have 2 of the best fullbacks in the league in the top 10. Only Manchester City and Everton has their fullbacks in the top 10.

And guess what. Debuchy is the best right back in the league with the highest rating. Santon at number 9.

    Say what.

  • 49 SharpEnough23 // Dec 8, 2013 at 12:37 PM

The commentary on that video is hilarious.

    Oooooooh Cabaye!

  • 50 JackButler // Dec 8, 2013 at 12:38 PM

    catchy

You are missing the point that he has been one of our best player over the past few week’s.

Yesterday’s line up was the one that I’d prefer to see us use but that does not mean that Shola has been poor for us of late.

As I said, I’ve been the lads biggest critic over the years, but credit where its due

  • 51 SharpEnough23 // Dec 8, 2013 at 12:38 PM

  • 56 Harley // Dec 8, 2013 at 12:46 PM

    JB

I said the exact same thing on here last night about the England team. You throw Henderson into that and we must have the weakest England squad in many a year.

Hodgson will be crucified when we don’t make it out of the group stages but if somehow we manage it, he should get the same acclaim as fergie. As fergie had this team massively overachieving too.

England just don’t have many top players anymore.

  • 57 ToonDarnSarf // Dec 8, 2013 at 12:49 PM

There’s a fairly big list of players that some fans were unhappy about us not signing…how many of them have actually done something well at another club?

I can think of the following who definitely haven’t (yet): Bony, RvW, Ruiz, Gervinho, Pieters, Bent, Graham, Moses, Zaha, Carroll and Maiga.

Hooper, Fer and Redmond have been ok for Norwich but only Fer has looked top drawer and we have a lot of competition in that area.

Did we really miss out on any players that moved to other teams for decent fees?

  • 58 ToonDarnSarf // Dec 8, 2013 at 12:51 PM

Oh yeah…and ludicrously, I could have added several mackems to that list. Can’t believe some people were saying that we should have signed several players that moved to them in the summer. Then we really might be in a relegation scrap!

  • 59 catchy in norway // Dec 8, 2013 at 12:51 PM

    JB

    im not missing the point,

he is a player that has ability, this i have always said, from when i used to watch him in the reserves,

i find him a really lazy player, that simply does not play for 90 mins in any game,,

when remy comes of the pitch to be subbed, he runs for how ever long he plays for, shola is now so un moblie he is like a statue that we lump the ball to

  • 60 catchy in norway // Dec 8, 2013 at 1:04 PM

    shola
    this season

    passing 198 tried, 135 complete, 68% completion
only tim krul has worse passing stats in our team
he has no assists and no goals

  • 61 lesh // Dec 8, 2013 at 7:12 PM

catchy in norway…. As ever, accentuating the positive. Catchy, if you ever find paradise, you’d rate it as two stars!
