It’s fair to say that if Loic Remy had been in his best goal-scoring form today, he would have had two fairly easy goals, one from a chance in the first half and then one just after Rodriguez had equalized for Southampton in the second half, when he was presented with a golden opportunity to score by goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga.
Fab Coloccini and Mike Williamson talking to ref today
Alan Pardew thought those two misses cost Newcastle today, as he said this to Sky Sports:
“It was a real Premier League game, good teams at it, but Southampton have got a great defensive record and we had two massive opportunities with Loic,”
“I thought Remy played well today, but those two you would expect him to score and at this level it would have made the difference.” “The rest of the game was very, very tight – they had periods, we had periods – two good teams.”
“I thought Adam Lallana had an impact on the game, for sure, but having said that so did Hatem Ben Arfa, he could have won it for us at the end. ” “He made a few nice moments for us.”
“That’s what these players are paid to do if they are not in the team – come off the bench and make an impact.”
Loic Remy has been great for us this season so far, but he seems to gone off the boil just a little bit, and normally he would have scored with both the opportunities he had today, and we have to think of this result as 2 points lost.
Next Saturday’s game at Crystal Palace will not be easy either, as Palace were unlucky to go down 2-1 at Stamford Bridge today.

how hard did there keeper have to work ??
lets face it, we were a post away from loosing this game,
i can think of at least 2 balls we fizzed in the box with no one running in there, hmmm , thats normal for us, and it should not be
5 on target, 3 of them you could throw your hat on them

Comment #53catchy well wat a bout remy’s miss?
and if remy had finished instead of a tame shot cleared of the line
we’d have won!!
don’t see ya slating him!!
or infact a better pass by remy in the best move in the match to sissko he would have scored too!

Comment #54Hadaira back and looked solid in the short time he was on the pitch. I like Santon but this lad defends better,is quick, and cross a ball with his left foot.Santon might have to sit it out for a while.

Comment #58the thing with santon is he seems to have everything i could see him being a 20 mill player at some point but i can’t see it being with us
hiadara looks the full part tho too he’s quick and defends very well but is always looking to get up the wing
infact him and debuchy next season excites me more than santon and deuchy

Comment #60manx thing you gotta learn about catchy is he will take any conceivable chance to bash Pardew – win or lose.
I was actually shocked he gave him credit for the ManU game; I was half expecting him to whine about how we only scored 1 goal.
I like how he talks about “silly formations” as well. It’s called a 4-4-2, catchy.

Dec 14, 2013 at 8:41 PM
Comment #63Santon is not a left back, yeah he does well every now and again but defensively he is pretty poor. It’s all well and good being able to go forward but he seems to get caught out at least 2-3 times a game. His position lies further up the pitch!

Comment #67norcal i know catchy very well (an arse) lol yeah but that man u analysis was just to cover himself from being known an absolute wum
we didn’t here from him much during the 4 game winning streak did we
and i wonder how many games he actually watches since he said remy was taken out to the wing today even tho he’s scored most of his goals from that position

At least catchy isn’t being as nasty today. Or is that check the toastie that usually tosses around the pardew insults? I confuse these two.

Comment #69He is a left back. He could be a very good left back. He just gets it wrong sometimes. He knows it and has said such in interviews lately. He has to learn that in the PL getting wrong is costly

Comment #76Cabaye’s distribution, both from open play and set pieces in the final third was missed, and our forward line is quite some distance from being sorted out. Interesting to see if these specifics are dealt with in January and the close season. You do get the sense that the final pieces of the jigsaw will be more bothersome to find than has been the case up to now.

Comment #77Well Catcy, not read you from aboint 7 games and 16 points ago… how you been?
Carry on guys, off to bed early start tomorrow but happy enough at 1 each today, not bad against a team that has beaten or at least took points from the EPL giants at their grounds, can be a tough proposition that Soton lot, they play some nice football and don’t concede many, but hey, you can’t win them all eh?
Anyways hope you make my tomorrow’s reading slightly entertaining this evening!
