Newcastle Linked With Greek International Striker

3:33 pm, Sunday, December 15th, 2013 by Ed Harrison · 12 Comments

The Greek press is reporting that Newcastle are keeping tabs on 25-year-old Olympiakos striker Konstantinos Mitroglou, who has 28 caps and eight goals for Greece.

Konstantinos_Mitroglou – 6’2″ Greek International striker

The Greek International has been in excellent form these last two seasons for his club side, and he’s got 17 goals in 15 games this season, and last season he scored 20 goals in 42 appearances, so he can certainly put the ball in the net.

It could be that Newcastle use Papiss Cisse in a part exchange deal, but we’d be very surprised if Papiss is not with the club come this summer., but you never know.

Liverpool and Arsenal are also interested in the 6’2″ striker, who seems to be available for the reasonable transfer fee of around £7.5M.

The greek striker’s coach Jose Miguel Michel talked about his striker:

“We’ve known for some time that there has been interest from many clubs, but that’s only logical considering how well he has been doing lately.”

“There have been no concrete proposals so far, but if he keeps on doing well, it’s going to be hard to keep him.”

Alan Pardew has said that Newcastle would like to sign a couple of players in the January transfer window, and certainly a top target has to be a striker, so it will be interesting to see if Konstantinos Mitroglou is indeed one of our targets.

From what we can tell he looks a very decent player, as you can see in this video – if you can stand the music. :D

What do you think?

God I hope not why the hell would be scouting the Greek league it’s like a retirement home for players who never really made it!

I`m sure this will be 1 of many “ who we are being linked with “ before January comes around. Nice way for the agents to get other clubs aware of their clients = signing fee for said agent.

    @Tsunki

Yeah looked on posts yesterday to see people slagging Anita … funny as the commentators were raving about him for the whole game the guy is crucial to us playing well and it would be a travesty if he gets dropped in the next game

On Santon I think he looks pretty jaded and could do with a little break could also be a good kick up the bum that he needs although he wasnt actually that bad yesterday his misplaced pass led to the goal but we got caught out from a quality move

First half Pardew got the tactics spot on but should not have brought Cisse on and then hit it long we then lost the midfield battle until Arfa came on also whats the deal with taking Gouffran off when he is playing well??

Remy could do with a rest as well he looks tired and is getting a little too greedy at times should really be scoring those 2 chances which would have been a pretty comfortable 3 – 1 win for me he is better on the left wing as well because he gets more space and it stretches teams but he has stopped working as hard in recent games

Will Pardew have the guts to start rotating players again? I hope so as Palace and Stoke are very winnable games could be time for Arfa , Cabaye and Haidara to come in and Shola/Remy and Santon to miss out

Love that last goal. He certainly knows how to find the onion bag.

Cisse and Shola haven’t scored for 20+ games each, just simply isn’t good enough. Cisse needs to get back on it as he is just a ‘goal scorer’ where as Shola offers height and hold play. We really do need to get support for Remy.

Also I just don’t agree with opposite foot full backs. It makes players very predictable, like Santon 80% of time cutting in. Gouffran has helped him massivley this year with his hard work and tracking back, but when HBA is in front he becomes a bit suspect.

He’s a good player, but seems to be prone to being bullied off the ball quite easily. Mind you, I predicted complete failure on Gouffran to play in England, and now I would say he was arguably our most important player.

TADS Olympiakos is good in Champions League too. They send Benfica to Europa league and Anderlech out. So greek team isnt that bad

I like him. If we could get him and that Manolas for €10m that would be a good piece if business. However, I think we can did better players in the Belgian and Dutch leagues. Players like Matias Suarez and Batshuayi (like this guy a lot).

Most of those goals were tap ins. Im not convinced he would get that kind of service in the EPL. Would rather a creative CF. Suarez will do :P
