French International right-back Mathieu Debuchy is leading our poll for Newcastle best player in the game at home yesterday against Southampton.
Mathieu Debuchy challenges Jay Rodriguez yesterday
We though Vurnon Anita had another good game for the side, but we also missed the creativity and passing ability of Yohan Cabaye, and maybe if Yohan had not been suspended, he could have opened up the Southampton defense.
But it’s not the first time Mathieu has topped our poll this season, and if he continues in his excellent form this season, the French International full-back could be the Player of the Season come next May – in his first full season on Tyneside.
However, after the Frenchman took an early lead in the poll, Anita and Debuchy are now neck and neck – so here’s a chance to vote if you haven’t already done so.

Comment #121Ridiculous statements still by a few posters on here. Still slacking Pardew and Coloccini when both have been great in the last few weeks.
We can win the league and some of you still won’t be happy.

Totally agree – Beat the Spuds and Manure away, Chelski at home
Drew with the Bin Dippers and Southy at home.
Not bad for a ‘crap manager’

Comment #125We have a good chance of getting 3rd place. Chelsea and Man City are in a different league to everyone else.

Comment #126Ketsy @100 – I cant wait for Santon to do that either. Literally, I am unable.
After Anitas performance yesterday its a real eye-opener ho some fans can watch plaers with tinted goggles and say he was terrible. What goon would ignore his constant harrying, passing, ground covered and yes even a mazy dribble into the box laughably spurned by our front men, and then actually type out that he was no good? I am sick to death of the chronic ignorance some show of the game in its basic form, and usually these posters are the most persistent, plugging their sad agenda according to the fashion of the moment or what they heard someone else say.
Now let me whine about Santon 😀
I was just saying how lately he confounded my criticism by actually looking like he was finally improving, but yesterday opened my eyes to what may be his weakness, and its not good. I thtink when certain players become too busy and have their hands full with their own role, and cannot shore him up, he becomes exposed and has a horrible game. Yesterday Gouffran was kept busy in midfield, and Colo was pegged back by their forwards, ;eaving Santon to deal with his position on his own, and he showed up to be very frail. I think Pardew could see this all too well, hence Haidara came on. I think Haidara will quickly become first choice LB. I said it last season before he got injured, hopefully he will have a better year.

The biggest problem yesterday was the front two – Remy and Shola were poor yesterday – lacked movement and conviction yesterday nothing stuck to them so ball and with that as you have put it ‘certain players become too busy and have their hands full with their own role’

Comment #129Haha how poor are Villa. Can’t believe Welbeck scored twice. I’d be gutted if England selected Welbeck, Cleverly and Smalling just because they play for Man Utd. It’s not fair. Micah Richards should be in the squad.

It’s football though mate, some people form there opinion on a player and no matter how well or poorly they go on to do there opinion won’t budge
Personally think it’s hard to say haidara should be ahead of santon based on a few good cameo performances
Santons still a young lad with a lot to learn and think he has been very impressive the last 5-6 games, had one bad mistake yesterday and it cost us just as Remy fluffing a couple of realistically very easy chances cost us
Personally still rate Mbiwa ahead of Colo, not necessarily based on individual strengths but i think Colo drifts more than Mbiwa and we look less disciplined at the back when he plays

You obviously never saw Beardsley play, he could make a ball talk.

It’s the nature of England mate, if your English and play for Nanure you pretty much a dead cert for selection!
Take Welbeck, finished last season with the same PL goals tally as Shola, bearing in mind most of Shola’s appearances came from the bench and playing a deeper role yet still gets picked

Comment #134Man Utd will probably sign Scott Parker, Gareth Barry and Danny Simpson for £80m in January. They will then have a squad full of complete rejects.

Yeah looked on posts yesterday to see people slagging Anita … funny as the commentators were raving about him for the whole game the guy is crucial to us playing well and it would be a travesty if he gets dropped in the next game
On Santon I think he looks pretty jaded and could do with a little break could also be a good kick up the bum that he needs although he wasnt actually that bad yesterday his misplaced pass led to the goal but we got caught out from a quality move
First half Pardew got the tactics spot on but should not have brought Cisse on and then hit it long we then lost the midfield battle until Arfa came on also whats the deal with taking Gouffran off when he is playing well??
Remy could do with a rest as well he looks tired and is getting a little too greedy at times should really be scoring those 2 chances which would have been a pretty comfortable 3 – 1 win for me he is better on the left wing as well because he gets more space and it stretches teams but he has stopped working as hard in recent games
Will Pardew have the guts to start rotating players again? I hope so as Palace and Stoke are very winnable games could be time for Arfa , Cabaye and Haidara to come in and Shola/Remy and Santon to miss out
