Three Players Pushing For Starting Positions At Newcastle

8:39 am, Monday, December 16th, 2013 by Ed Harrison · 6 Comments

Vurnon Anita replaced the suspended Yohan Cabaye on Saturday, and had a very good game and ended up second in our Man of the Match poll to Mathieu Debuchy, who had another outstanding game for the Magpies.

Vurnon Anita – in action on saturday

And that is indicative of how well Vurnon Anita has played for Newcastle this season, in the 15 appearances he has made, and while not a starter, the Dutchman is pushing hard for a start in Newcastle’s midfield.

And it was interesting that Massadio Haidara was again introduced in place of Davide Santon at left back in the second half yesterday, and that should tell Davide if he didn’t already know, that the 20 year-old Frenchman is a threat to Davide’s starting left back position at Newcastle, after the 20 year-old Frenchman is now fully fit after a number of injuries this season.

And Hatem Ben Arfa again made a good substitute appearance in place of goalscorer Yoan Gouffran on Saturday, and Yoan is well aware that Ben Arfa is pushing for his position on the left wing at Newcastle, and maybe that’s why Yoan has scored in each of our last four games, so he can keep his place in the side.

Make no mistake, these three players are pushing hard for starting positions in the side, and are one reason Newcastle have been doing so well over the last couple of months – because they are pushing the starters  to perform.

And when these three lads get a chance they are also playing well – so it’s a win-win for Newcastle at the moment, and it illustrates how a good squad almost guarantees good performances from the players.

Ben Arfa, Vurnon Anita and Massadio Haidara are three of the reasons Newcastle are doing so well in the Premier League at the moment, and all credit to them.

What do you think?

I bet you he can’t wait for Cabaye to bugger off.

Tes, not to forget M’Biwa, arguably the one of these 4 who SHOULD be starting. Meanwhile, if Colo has decided he’s not going to mess us about with this ‘return to his roots’, how about putting it out in an English newspaper, not a Spanish one? As Captain, surely he owes us that much?

    Yes, not’ Tes’!

Agreed with Rotonda and Sav that M’Biwa should be starting.

But also, certainly Ben Arfa or Anita should slot into the starting XI ahead of Shola.

    4-2-3-1 with HBA:
    Remy
    Gouffran-Ben Arfa-Sissoko
    Tiote-Cabaye

    or 4-2-3-1 with Anita
    Remy
    Gouffran-Cabaye-Sissoko
    Tiote-Anita
