With Yoan Gouffran playing so well we now have a winger who can scores goals and the Frenchman now has six goals this season, and only two behind leading goalscorer Loic Remy.
Loic Remy – he scored again
But when you look at the Newcastle goalscorers this season Remy and Gouffran have 14 of the 25 goals Newcastle have scored in all competitions – that’s 56% and Loic has scored 32% – just less than a third – of Newcastle’s goals this season.

Alan Pardew thinks Newcastle are not reliant too much on Remy, and the manager said this on BBC Newcastle today:
“We spread the goals around reasonably well, but it would be nice to have goals from all sorts of areas of the pitch.” “But I don’t think we are over-reliant on Remy.”
“The next game is Crystal Palace away and I would like to think we could win that.”
Newcastle are currently in 6th place and rose one place last weekend, mainly due to Tottenham being hammered 5-0 at home by Liverpool, which ended up being the last game in charge by Portuguese manager Andres Villas-Boas.
Newcastle have 27 points and are level on points with Spurs, but are 4 points behind Everton in 5th place, so even with a win we will not improve our position in the league table by Saturday night.
But the lads need to get back to their winning ways at Selhurst Park on Saturday afternoon, and be a lot sharper in front of goal than we were last Saturday – that’s for sure.

Im not saying we should play anita as a number 10 or that he is an overly creative player. Nor am i saying we should sell cabaye. Although for me he wastes the ball too much both with mis-placed over hit passes and too many long shots.
Pardew is deploying him as our creative midfielder to make chances for others. Obviously he has a good shot on him but theres a time and a place. Im not saying he isnt a creative player or cant pick a pass, a couple of years ago he played an unbelievable pass to cisse against stoke! thats what he can do! (and what cisse thrives off) but he doesnt. I think hes more about goals this season and getting on the plane to rio.
Regarding the soton game anita was involved in a great move with sissoko but remy overhit the final ball to sissoko and the chance was lost. Also anita wriggled through a heap of the players in the box but nobody gambled on him getting a cross in. Im not having an anita love in but he does things with one or two touches and keeps us and the ball moving i think we are more fluid with him in the team.

“our goal and Remy’s misses came from their mistakes”
this is what Pardew should be looking at rectifying if he wants more goals.

I think our problem is that we are playing a formation where we require a CAM/No 10. and we dont have anyone for that role what you need is a david silva, lallana, mata type player who is the glue and just brings everyone else into play.
Sissoko for me isnt a right winger or a cam, he is a powerhouse box to box midfielder that could be lethal on the break. Benny is a conundrum nobody can seem to work out. Undoubted ability but no inclination to defend which i would think means he would be great as a no 10. but even david silva tracks back! i would love to see him tried there and given a free reign behind remy/cisse but he would have to control himself and be a bit less selfish (which i think he could do). cabaye is a box to box creative midfielder too not a cam and not a deep lying playmaker (pirlo).
For example assist wise this season Benny has 4, Cisse 3, Cabaye 3, sameobi 2, gouff 2, remy 2 in all comps.
I think we just need a really unselfish creative player

Your summations of our player is fairly accurate and we do need that icing on the cake. I have a sneaking suspicion with us being linked to wingers Pardew may be looking to move Sissoko inside. In which case he could do that now with HBA or even Sammy on the wing. But instead he goes back to Shola…sigh.

Comment #45Wolfshead: Comparing sauraz to cisse is not really the way to look at it.
Firstly yes he is regularly offside 1.2 times per game last season – cisse 1.3 times per game – http://www.whoscored.com/Regions/252/Tournaments/2/Seasons/3389/Stages/6531/PlayerStatistics/England-Premier-League-2012-2013
Funnily enough this season luis saurez has been offside on avergae per game more than any other player 1.4 times per game with papiss cisse 0.7 times per game. – http://www.whoscored.com/Regions/252/Tournaments/2/Seasons/3853/Stages/7794/PlayerStatistics/England-Premier-League-2013-2014
That doesnt matter though its not about being offside or onside its about being provided the chances and suarez plays in a free flowing liverpool team that create chances for fun cisse on the other hand…

I dont know i kind of think we need somebody who is more established/experienced. I think he is an undoubted talent but he hasn’t consistently played or performed. Obviously if he was available on the cheap then it would take the pressure off. I think the key thing is its not really about goals or assists its breaking down defences and taking opposition players out of the game. Whether thats with skill, a quick 1-2 or a brilliant through ball it doesnt matter. We need to attack with pace and purpose, quick passes and interchanges, we very rarely put the opposition defence on the back foot as a team. Yes we have individuals that can but we dont counter attack with purpose.

Comment #50Looking at the goal tally,we could never be described as prolific. Pardew, needs to add a decent striker and a decent centre half to his Christmas wish list.

Comment #51Pardew, also needs to clear all the fringe crap out of the squad. Sammy, Obertan, Jonas, Saylor, Vuckic, Gosling, Marv, Tavernier, Cisse, Raylor, Campbell and Coloccini. That’s a whole team of average players on decent wages who contribute nothing, so move them on and replace them with some quality.

I think the important thing is that anyone we buy regardless of position should be for the starting 11. We dont need rotation players or youth players until we evaluate the current ones.
Like you say a few should be moved on although i think your list is a bit harsh personally.

Comment #56We need Gouffran to keep knocking them in.
The fact that ourselves and Spurs are the only 2 teams not to have scored 3 or more goals in a match is worrying. I would love a 3-0 hammering of Palace at the weekend.
Also, Remy needs to find his touch again. I dunno if it’s just me but he really seems to be ‘off’ the last couple of games. He worked hard at united and put in a good shift but his first touch and decision making has been quite poor for the past 4/5 games!
Really hope we can get the win at the weekend, would love to see HBA have a great game aswel!

I think that is more an illustration of the reckless spending of others rather than the fact we should have money to spend. It also doesnt account for other revenues etc. and comparitive expenditures!
I think we are doing fairly well in business terms. i know there is potentisl for more before we end up with another advertising debate.

Comment #61What will it take to score more goals?
Aside from everyone chipping in with goals! We have long needed a quality creative, playmaker – No 10. There was a time when I felt that HBA could fulfil the role. Sadly he just doesn’t seem to have the team mentality required and although he has exceptional skill frequently does not play the simple ball, because he lacks the vision of a Lallana, Hazard or a David Silva. That type of player all of whom are outside Ashley’s price range I suspect.
The above named though are in fact the type of player that would take us to a whole new level. Arguably, HBA can match all of these players in terms of skill but needs to work on his overall contribution to the team performance. His cameo performance against Man U was encouraging only for there to be a relapse in the Southampton game. As things stand should a reasonable offer come in for him then we could well sell him. It’s a question of whether we feel he will ever make a consistent contribution. Despite his fan base hankering, he is clearly no longer an automatic selection. Hatem it’s over to you!
December games will afford ample opportunity for him to make his claim.
Clearly Shola is never going to make a big difference to the goals for column. Moving to the next level also means buying a target man who is more mobile and more of a goalscorer.
I simply would prefer a January transfer concentration on the offensive side of the team. Surely that’s not asking to much!

Precisely what i was saying earlier post # 30 onwards. I would love a no 10. Strengthening That one position could transform this team and to be honest this season with big changes at the top teams and sackings left right and centre blowing 15mil or 15mil plus cabaye on a really top playmaker could actually take us on a level entirely. Who is another question!

Comment #65Ian Toon, I have been saying same about HBA as a number 10 for ages, and been slagged for it. Obvioulsy have been proven correct again, obviously! HBA just doesnt get his head up and doesnt have the ability to be a number 10, period. If he cant make it into the team, c’est la vie.

Looks exceptional 10 assists 7 goals in 22 appearances so far this season. Would love it if we (kinnear/carr/pardew) thought right £3-£8mil lets do it!
Check him out on youtube im sure there will be videos
