Newcastle were after Wilfried Zaha for almost two years, but last January he signed on at Manchester United for a cool £15M, but was allowed to stay at Crystal Palace and the youngster helped his side get promoted to the Premier League, winning a very close play-off final 1-0 against Watford at Wembley Stadium.
Wilfried Zaha – on loan to Newcastle?
And ever since we’ve been linked with trying to sign Zaha on loan in January, we’ve questioned the wisdom of that move, unless there is a chance to sign the player permanently after the loan deal.
Alan Pardew held his news conference for the Crystal Palace game today, and was asked about the 21 year-old former Palace winger:
“He’s a Manchester United player as far as I’m concerned,” “He’s a player I know well. He played for my old team.” “He was absolutely phenomenal when they got promoted.” “He got a big move to Manchester United.”
“Unfortunately, his career has stalled, but I know he’s done very well there in the background.” “I said last week that we’ll be strategic next month.” “If an opportunity arises, we’ll grasp it. If not, we won’t.”
“The squad is stronger than it was two years ago in terms of depth.”
If Newcastle do sign Zaha on loan, then Newcastle would be obliged to give him some priority in playing time, and that takes away playing time for the likes of Sammy Ameobi, Jonas Gutierrez and Ben Arfa among others, so we’re not sure what the advantage would be to Newcastle.
Here are the results of the poll we conducted on Wilfried – so we’re not alone in this viewpoint:
And Wilfried is no doubt a good up-and-coming player, but he has been unable to break into the Manchester United side this season, which has been grossly under-performing under new manager Davide Moyes.
So we really don’t know what the point would be of bringing Zaha in – we certainly we cannot see much advantage to Newcastle – only to the Red Devils, because one of their younger player will get games in the Premier League.
We just cannot see the sense in this.
What do you think?

I actually dont think Amalfitino was given a proper crack of the whip we never played him in a decent position and he hardly got a game would have been good to have gave him a run out on the right wing or when we signed him we should have loaned him straight to an English club
Who knows he may come back from his loan spell ready to go …. maybe not

If I was Malkay I would be looking forward to a big pay off and then walking straight in to the WBA job.

He’s done a very good job at Cardiff and deserves better, but thats what happens when you have someone in charge who has no understanding of how the game works.
He’ll walk straight into another job but I can’t see anyone wanting to go to Cardiff as his replacement

It seems to be a language and communication problem, the letter/email threatening to sack him has come directly from Tan and not from his official employer, the club. A few Lawyers are going to get richer off this one.

Comment #52Jesper – please don’t encourage Geordie Two with his bloody carp about manliness and chest hair. And people wonder why posters are disappearing.

Comment #53Jonas, Benny and Sammy aren’t deemed good enough to be in the starting 11 at the moment, so why not bring in another player who might push those players and improve them or force his own way into the side.
More competition for places is surely a good thing, and he would also bring a different skill set with him that might be a good fit for us.

Comment #54I find it funny how people defending Ashley compare him with Ellis Short and Vincent Tan, it’s like saying lucky us we’ve got Pol Pot, we could have had Stalin or Vlad the impaler.

Because competition for places adds money to the wage bill, one ‘purple’ per place is overstretching things.

Comment #56Read most of the posts on here and am pleased that some attention is being given to some of the talent playing in the Dutch competition !
We have been concentrating most of our scouting in France for the last few years and i think it would be could if our Scouting Policy started to look in other European countries, and not at the recognised,so called Top teams either!
In countries like Belgium, Holland, and Germany, there is a wealth of talent, playing in their lower leagues and a lot of the clubs are having dire financial problems. The trick is to send out our scouts and try to harvest the talent that is there?
We are concentrating too much time in France and need to expand our scouting to other countries! Don,t send Kinnear though, as i just do not trust him at all !
As for Zaha, well for half a season i just don,t see the point of signing him, it all sounds a bit too risky to me! If he is so good then why are Manure not using him in their first team. Not sure if he is worth the risk? If we start picking up injuries then okay? But my only interest in signing him would be on a loan with a permanent deal at the end of the loan!
