I’m not going to get into a debate over this, but you might want to consider how those people don’t always want to be attacked by people like you when they show their optimistic side.

At the moment we have players like Willo, Debuchy, Tiote and Shola who are playing well, despite and backers for those players being attacked by people who think they know how to judge a player. Anyone predicting top 8 was slated and insulted because “how could a club that nearly got relegated last season and only added 1 loan player finish in the top 8?”

Even I am tired of defending our players, our manager and our transfer record…

  • 3 wolfshead@toon // Dec 21, 2013 at 7:11 PM

id swap the last 3 for suarez :-)

  • 4 toonarmydownsouth // Dec 21, 2013 at 7:12 PM

Jesus Ed take a breather lad!

    toonarmydownsouth // Dec 21, 2013 at 6:36 PM

That it was mate, there were some great attacking moves today,

Debuchy has to be hands down one of if not the best RB in the league, the speed the lad gets up and down the pitch is amazing!

    Sissoko was a monster again

Cabaye was simply superb, his passing was top notch and in all honest could of walked off the pitch with at least 4 goals!

Goofy grafted his @rse off again, great player!

Tiote and Anita bullied and bossed the middle of the park with some great quick passing

Willo, absolutely solid, the amount of work his does off the ball is brilliant!

Colo, fair play to him he had a great game today
Remy, not as lively as I expected him to be, looks a bit jaded, but did not realise how fast that boy was!

HBA came on with a point to prove and about bloody time! He looked great, still yet to be convinced he should be starting think he makes a great impact sub but a few more showings like that he’ll be back in the squad

Shola came on looked good, looked sharp and it was a brilliant turn to get away from the first defender and draw the penalty from parr, only surprise was he didn’t take it!

The only downside’s today for me were Krul and Santon, I’ve been a huge defender of Santon but he was poor today, perhaps he just needs a rest but a couple from haidara will push him on
Krul had some very nervy moments in what was a pretty easy afternoon, although I do think the weather played a part in that

  • 5 Big Pappa Cissé // Dec 21, 2013 at 7:19 PM

    @ wolf

I would swap my left nut for Suarez at the moment :) . Best striker in world football at the moment IMO .

I know he has just signed a new contract, but if I was him I would be doing everything I could to get a move to Madrid or Bayern as he is that good.

Very rarely do you see a striker score and create goals as much as him

  • 6 USAGEORDIE // Dec 21, 2013 at 7:20 PM

I’ve said it before and it wasn’t too popular but I like Danny welbeck. He is really inconsistent but if he gets regular football he could be a fantastic striker. He has flashes of absolute brilliance like today vs. west ham. A good English signing for £10m?

  • 7 Big Pappa Cissé // Dec 21, 2013 at 7:24 PM

    @ USA

He is a decent player and would probably get 10-15 goals a season for a team like us if played consistently .

Can’t see Man U letting him go as the big clubs like to hold on to English talent although I will say Cleverly is garbage . I just think Wellbeck isn’t a Wayne Rooney or Van Persie proper Man united first teamer despite being a decent player .

  • 8 Ted Bundy // Dec 21, 2013 at 7:26 PM

Think we’ll see Gomis come in during the window and Marv leave. That’ll be it. Any advance? Marv is in exile and I wouldn’t be surprised if his departure isn’t already sewn up. Strange one for me, given how he was our leading assister last season with fragmented playing time.

  • 9 Tommyy // Dec 21, 2013 at 7:31 PM

Well today was the ultimate test for this Newcastle side as last season and even the season before we would have lost this game, small pitch, open stadium, terrible weather and a Pulis side. However we passed with flying colours and for the first time this season I can seriously consider us as a team worthy of our position. These are the games you have to win to stay at the top, no good only turning up for the big ones.
We still lack a little bit of composure and coherency when moving the ball about, but that grows with confidence and it’s excellent to see Debuchy and Sissoko dominating the right side game after game. Anita and Tiote were brilliant at keeping that midfield under control and allowing Cabaye to roam forward and pick out his passes and get into the box like we all wanted to see. I’m confident for 3 points vs Stoke now.
Still feel Pardew could do with a bit more coaching support from a technical point of view just to solidify our evolving game but he’s been excellent so far this season bar a couple of poor results, but they happens to every team. On Ashley and Kinnear I’m still against them due to the lack of impetus during out transfer windows, as a couple of key injuries and we’re still vulnerable to a collapse. I’d like to see a little more support for Pardew in this area just to enable him to have that strength in depth in certain areas such as up top and on the wings. If we can find that balance of spending in the right areas and not just gambling for it if we don’t find the exact deal then I believe fan opinion on Ashley would turn around fairly quickly.
All we need is a bit of communication and backing for the managers needs and the continued growth of the footballing side and we’re slowly looking like a consistent top 6 side.

  • 10 Ted Bundy // Dec 21, 2013 at 7:32 PM

    is already*

Double negative there, poor form. I’d like to say I’m sloshed, but only had a few. Ah well, the blog needed some negativity of some sort, what with the likes of Ruddy and Catchy being firmly clamped these days.

  • 11 Big Pappa Cissé // Dec 21, 2013 at 7:33 PM

    @ bundy

I agree . How someone with Marv’s talent and assist record for us can’t even get on the bench in place of Obertan ( A guy who I am convinced doesn’t know how to play football and just runs like Forrest Gump) is very puzzling indeed .

If we need a goal to rescue a point or secure all three in the last 15 minutes of a game Marv is one of the few players ( Along with HBA) on the bench that can unlock the opposition defence with their vision IMO .

Obertan is only good for running sprints down the touchline or making Krabby patty’s :) .

  • 12 Tommyy // Dec 21, 2013 at 7:33 PM

I think Marveux must be homesick or unsettled in some way as he showed good quality last season and it was a far tougher campaign so I can’t see it being down to bottle.

  • 13 USAGEORDIE // Dec 21, 2013 at 7:34 PM

He wouldn’t even need to score 15 a season. He could play ss where Shola is and play the ball to the wingers and Remy. He would fit in really well.

  • 14 Tommyy // Dec 21, 2013 at 7:36 PM

First post should read cohesiveness not coherency! Gone mad.

  • 15 Big Pappa Cissé // Dec 21, 2013 at 7:36 PM

    @ Tommy

I honestly think we have one of the best right hand sides in the league with Sissoko & Debuchy . Most of our attacks come down that flank and Mathieu may as well be playing right wing the way he has been playing lately .

He shows how little Simpson gave us offensively and makes him look like a pub player .

  • 16 Tommyy // Dec 21, 2013 at 7:42 PM

Big Pappa – I agree, it’s been great to watch, perfect combination of stamina, pace, skill and support. Sissoko really allows Debuchy that support to bomb forward and seems to read his game very well. I think Sissoko is a classic RM style as opposed to a winger as he comes inside well and can see a pass as well as that mysterious ability to just burst past player without really doing anything. They complement each other perfectly and long may it continue.

  • 17 NUFCarter // Dec 21, 2013 at 7:46 PM

It must be the first time in absolute ages, but believe it or not we are bottom of the injury table! (joint with Cardiff + West Brom) Just poor old Ryan Taylor for us.

Things are looking just great at the moment for NUFC. Lets keep it up!

  • 18 Douglas // Dec 21, 2013 at 7:48 PM

Pardew needs to rest players before the Arsenal game. Team for Stoke:
    Santon Myanga Taylor Hiadara
    Anita HBA Dummet Sammy
    Shola Cisse

  • 19 NUFCarter // Dec 21, 2013 at 7:50 PM

It was obvious why everything went down the right today, not only was Moxey shocking but Debuchy and Sissoko were immense and would be against any LB in the league. Santon and Gouffran can be brilliant going forward, but i feel Santons too predictable and it really wasn’t one of his better games today.

  • 20 ToonDarnSarf // Dec 21, 2013 at 7:54 PM

No reason for Man Utd to sell Wellbeck so forget that. And why would he want to leave when he’s scoring for them?

  • 21 TorqToon // Dec 21, 2013 at 7:56 PM

Ciaran – I’m assuming that was a thinly veiled dig at myself. If wrong, then I apologise.

However, I don’t just appear around transfer time, nor do I only appear after a win. I limit my posts now due to previous issues, and the reason I tend to post more after a win is simply because the calibre of poster is greatly improved and not full of make believe and negativity that this blog has seen at times this season.

  • 22 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 21, 2013 at 8:00 PM

Welbeck is an extremely poor footballer. He is about as bad as Shola.

I can’t understand why Marveaux doesn’t get in the squad. It’s obvious that Pardew hates him. I still think he’s the best technical footballer in the squad. He definitely has the best vision in the squad and rarely gives the ball away.

  • 23 NUFCarter // Dec 21, 2013 at 8:01 PM

So Sunderland have 10 points and have Everton and Cardiff away in their next two games, before the second half of the season begins. It’s likely they’ll lose those games, meaning they’ll have to show similar form to us for the remainder of the season in order for them to meet Poyets target of 40 points and thus stay up. That’s not gonna happen!

  • 24 Shadow_Shearer // Dec 21, 2013 at 8:02 PM

All of our players look so much fitter and shaper. There is still 1 unsung hero. We love u Faye Downsley. Keep up the good work.

  • 25 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 21, 2013 at 8:03 PM

Sunderland have got too many has beens in their squad. Adam Johnson is their best player. He may be looking to move in jan in order to fulfil his england ambition.

  • 26 NUFCarter // Dec 21, 2013 at 8:03 PM

It was 14 months before today since Welbeck last scored at Old Trafford. Says it all really. Although rather him then Cisse.

  • 27 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 21, 2013 at 8:05 PM

Haha rather Welbeck than Cisse? Are you mad. Cisse is a proven finisher and was a lethal striker in the bundesliga etc.

  • 28 Ciaran // Dec 21, 2013 at 8:06 PM

I do not attack anyone. People can be positive if they so wish, but be positive even when people are negative, that way you demonstrate that you are not a fly-by-night poster who does not have the cojones to stand behind his opinion.

Yes you do only come on here after wins, and you always, without fail, reference the ‘negativity’ as if people should not be negative and should be ashamed of displaying negative opinions.

In terms of the football, we have things to be positive about, but that does not change the off-field grievances that many of us have.

I for one will not apologise for being negative about Ashley, nor will a positive performance and result change that fact. It has changed my opinion of Pardew somewhat, but nothing else.

  • 29 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 21, 2013 at 8:06 PM

There’s too much victimisation on Cisse. He is one of the best finishers in the premier league. He will win his place back as will Marveaux.

  • 30 Tommyy // Dec 21, 2013 at 8:12 PM

I think Santon is our weakest link now, he just isn’t a left back as much as anyone tries to maintain that he is. He’s simply not strong enough on his left side and as said above, far too predictable.

  • 31 NUFCarter // Dec 21, 2013 at 8:12 PM

Sunderland are full of Manchester united rejects; Wes brown, O’shea, Bardsley. As well as Richardson and Saha in the past.

  • 32 Ketsbaia9 // Dec 21, 2013 at 8:14 PM

I thought Santon was close to getting man of the match today. Another excellent shift from him. He should be selected for the Italian team.

  • 33 NUFCarter // Dec 21, 2013 at 8:17 PM

Santon had a poor game today. Defensively hes not good enough.

  • 34 ToonDarnSarf // Dec 21, 2013 at 8:18 PM

Most people do not come on here for a battle, they come on here to talk with other fans. So yes, you and others have attacked people when they have come on here with positive attitudes. Anyone saying that Willo or Shola are decent players or Pardew is a decent manager would be told they are League One quality at best, that they are useless, that they are examples of our terrible owner and they don’t deserve to be at our club.

I am welcoming to constructive criticism even when we are doing well but the extreme negativity is unwelcome.

  • 35 valle // Dec 21, 2013 at 8:18 PM

I agree with Santon being a weak link… I would prefer to see Haidare, who I believe could become a great player.

  • 36 Yohan Kebab // Dec 21, 2013 at 8:23 PM

anita, the unsung hero who helps us control the game

i believe we should get a ‘defensive’ left back to help balance our team up

play using debuchy and sissoko in our build up on the right and gouffy for a counterattacking threat on the left

  • 37 NUFCarter // Dec 21, 2013 at 8:23 PM

Haidara straight swap for me. I like Santon as an attacker, but he can make some poor decisions. Like that shocking shot today from some stupid position. what was he thinking? Hes a great player, but i’d like to see him on one of the wings. Unfortunately, Gouffran and Sissoko have secured those positions and rightfully so!

  • 38 toonarmydownsouth // Dec 21, 2013 at 8:26 PM

Mate i don’t know what game you were watching but wtf are you on about!
Santons shot was only inches away…………from the corner flag ;)

  • 39 NUFCarter // Dec 21, 2013 at 8:27 PM

Anita has fit in really well with Tiote, Cabaye, Sissoko and Gouffran in the midfield. Had a poor first 15 but was just brilliant for the remainder of the match. Ameobi is a great option and offers stability in the team when coming on. So i’d rather have Anita starting and Ameobi coming on as the substitute.

  • 40 NUFCarter // Dec 21, 2013 at 8:29 PM

oh so thats what he was aiming for. my bad :/

  • 41 Yohan Kebab // Dec 21, 2013 at 8:30 PM

at the beginning of the season i said we needed to find a way to fit cabaye tiote sissoko and anita all into one team

very glad pardew has managed to do this

  • 42 USAGEORDIE // Dec 21, 2013 at 8:32 PM

Santon has been weak. I think Ben Arfa and Santon, defensively, on that same side is a recipe for disaster. I think MYM needs to get a shot at LB vs. stoke.

  • 43 NUFCarter // Dec 21, 2013 at 8:35 PM

I remember when people, including me were slating Pardew for putting Sissoko out right when he should be CDM. But bloody hell hes been immense in our last 8 games on that wing and looks even better with Debuchy supportng him in the attack. We don’t need to worry about the defensive midfield when Anita and Tiote are there, playing out of their skin!

  • 44 Yohan Kebab // Dec 21, 2013 at 8:36 PM

MYM played brilliantly as lb last season. i cant see many teams breaking down

    debuchy colo willo mym

with tiote cabaye anita sissoko and gouffran all able to cover defensively aswell we have a really well balanced team

if remy starts to show signs of loss of form maybe give hba a go up top alone? could thrive on service from those 5

  • 45 NUFCarter // Dec 21, 2013 at 8:40 PM

Not only have we got Anita and Tiote defending the back four, but gouffran, sissoko and Cabaye were constantly coming back and tackling their attackers before they even got close to the back four.

  • 46 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Dec 21, 2013 at 8:52 PM

I gave it Anita, today just shaded it from a host of players. I thought his distribution today was excellent. Overall a excellent display in poor conditions.
More of the same against Stoke

  • 47 NUFCarter // Dec 21, 2013 at 9:06 PM

  • 48 TorqToon // Dec 21, 2013 at 9:28 PM

Ciaran – Happy Christmas to you!! Let’s hope Santa brings you something to smile about. Maybe a relegation or pards sacking. :-) Don’t normally engage with you, due to your general poor attitude. Don’t worry, I won’t make this same mistake again. Nor will I apologise for being positive.

To the rest of you, it’s great to see true perspective and understanding of our club.

  • 49 NUFCarter // Dec 21, 2013 at 9:42 PM

Who would have thought it, top 6 at Christmas.

  • 50 Ciaran // Dec 21, 2013 at 9:59 PM

I don’t normally engage with you because you provide nothing to debate. I don’t want Pardew to be sacked, he’s doing a decent job.

I resent the fact that you think I want the club I love to do badly and I would like you to take that back.

  • 51 TorqToon // Dec 21, 2013 at 10:07 PM

Carter – Nobody would have predicted that!! It’s amazing given the budget we have, and the owner who makes the calls. His next big task is keeping hold of our stars and maybe adding a couple of key players.

  • 52 Quasimodo's tailor // Dec 21, 2013 at 10:16 PM

Oh dear. Someone’s bottom lip is quivering.

  • 53 Ted Bundy // Dec 21, 2013 at 10:17 PM

Never encountered somebody as highly strung as Ruddy before, very repellent persona. An irredeemable, belligerent turd.

  • 54 jasper // Dec 21, 2013 at 10:56 PM

It is good to see you back on the blog but I would be sorry if you really choose not to pass on what titbits you may glean along the way.
By contrast I had rather hoped that Ciaran/Ruddy’s recent absence indicated that Ed had banned him. No such luck it would seem.
I’m sure that I am not the only person who rarely posts but reads each day and is fed up By his tedious and studied offensiveness toward posters such as you. Yes his comment about ITKs was directed at you, consistent with his attack on Nov 24th.
The daft thing is that he can write well and make good points. But whilst he is a noxious to posters here and towards Ed himself I, for one, am ignoring his blog.
I suspect that in the end it is the green eyed monster – he doesn’t like the obvious esteem that others hold you in and is determined to drag you down.
Post what you like in January.
