Vurnon Anita has been one of the success stories at Newcastle this season, and he made his 16th appearance for Newcastle yesterday and started the game in a 4-3-3 formation, which again saw Newcastle play very well. and the team looked solid and organized and had 67% of the possession in the game.

And Newcastle were ready for this game, and started on the right tack and were able to fight a relegation threatened side for the 3 points, which at the end of the game we thoroughly deserved, and it could have been even more than 3-0.
Vurnon is a very tidy player, as you would expect from a player who went through the Ajax Youth system in Holland, and with Cheick Tiote picking up his 5th yellow card of the season, after the Ivorian gave another energetic display in central midfield, Vurnon could well start again against an in-form Stoke City side on Boxing Day at St. James’ Park.
This is what the 5 times capped Dutch International had to say after the game:
“We have a good ambience in the team and you can see that when we get results. Palace need the points but we were ready for a battle today, and we won.”: “It’s always good to have Yohan in the team. We connect well in midfield.”
Even though Vurnon has not been able to become a regular start at Newcastle in his second season, since signing on from Ajax, he is still getting playing time with 53 appearances since he arrived on Tyneside.
And Vurnon was used to stiff competition in Holland, so this is nothing new to him, and the professionalism he has shown at Newcastle since he signed on, has been first class.
And now he will have a chance to show he can play in defensive midfield on Thursday, in place of Cheick, and we will need to get another win to keep our 6th place in the league – and we could go higher up in the league table.
That’s the goal for Boxing Day.
