Alan Pardew gave his press conference yesterday for the Stoke City game, and he said the club were a little surprised that we are so high in the league table right now, and only 4 points off a Champions League position and 6 points off top placed Liverpool.
Alan Pardew – high position unexpected
This is what Alan said right at the beginning of the press conference yesterday, when he responded to an initial comment that Newcastle were doing really well in the league this season and challenging at the top:
“It’s something that we didn’t really expect I don’t think at this stage to be that close, but the team have played very very well and my players have been terrific.”
“We’re pleased as a football club to be in that group that is really looking like a competitive little area of the division making the Barclay’s Premier League the best for a long time.”
“We’ve had no injuries and we have a fresh team, and a lot of these players did this two years ago so I’m not surprised, and the introduction maybe of the players we introduced in the last window really bringing home what we hoped they would bring to the football club.”
No injuries and the six Frenchmen we have brought in this year have certainly helped Newcastle become a much better side this season, and we could repeat our exploits of two years ago when we finished 5th top.
But Alan Pardew is keeping his players’ feet firmly on the ground and taking each game one at a time.
So the only thing that matters right now is to somehow win the game tomorrow against Stole City, hopefully in front of a sold-out St. James’ Park crowd.
Then we have Arsenal in the early game on Sunday afternoon, and who knows, we could even get another famous win for the team this season.

Comment #1we have a better team now than we did 2 years ago 4th -5th finish could be a possibility for us but saying that Chelsea & Arsenal don’t look as strong as they should be and to me Man city & Liverpool seem to be the only teams that want more out of this season so a 3rd position for us could possibly happen.
Man city
Liverpool
Newcastle
Arsenal
Everton
Chelsea
Tottenham
it would be fantastic if this happens and AP will no doubt become an adopted Geordie and even become an Legend

Comment #4The only thing we need to do is keep winning or drawing games!
Been saying for months now, we are two players short of top four? If we can stop other clubs buying our top players who knows what may happen come the end of the season?
Merry Christmas and HWTL!

Comment #7Just read NUFC.com, I’m sick to death of hearing Pardew moan about Europa, he cites Swansea who are probably no better or worse than they were last season and Spurs who managed fifth last season with a good EL run, I am not doubting that the extra games have an effect but managed correctly teams can compete on both fronts, Pards is just too ……. to admit that our biggest downfall was that his boss(es) chose to weaken the squad rather than strengthen it before our last EL campaign.

the only reason ben arfa dropped from the squad is b/c he is weak diffensively, esp after everton game.Goufran is doing that job much better than ben or jonas.i just enjoying our fantastic season so far, even started dreaming of winning the title.we r just 6 pts off the top so everything can happen. The BPL is getting interesting and exciting from day 2 day b/c currently hard to predict who’ll win the title.speaking of my lovely club,NUFC,if we beat stoke and arsenal, trust me we’ll get atleast a champions league spot depending on the other results above us.so the future is bright for the toon.
against stoke;i go for 5 man mf,ben in for tiote behind remy and leave the other winning players as they are.
