We’ll Know More About This Newcastle Side After Arsenal Game

It’s probably fair to say that after we struggled last season and only just managed to escape relegation, and we also got off to a nervous start at the beginning of this season, and to be in 6th position over Christmas with our best points total since Sir Bobby Robson managed the club has been a surprise, and maybe a big surprise to Newcastle fans.

Coloccini and Williamson – great partnership at the back

But that’s what has happened and ever since the Sunderland defeat we have taken a fabulous 22 points from the last nine games and rocketed up the league table.

Of course next up is one of the plum games at Newcastle every season against Arsenal, and it’s a long time since we’ve beaten the Gunners, and maybe our lads can do that tomorrow afternoon.

This is what Alan Pardew has said about the recent run by his Newcastle side:

“We have been on an incredible run, really. I’m not sure any team has beaten that run over the last nine or 10 games this season, even Arsenal.”

“So we have set ourselves up for what will be an intriguing encounter, and we will probably know a little bit more about this team after Arsenal.”

We are 13 points better off than we were after 18 games last season, and then in our next two games a year ago we were hammered 4-3 at Old Trafford and 7-3 at the Emirates Stadium. :(

And we are 3 points better of than we were two years ago, when we had 30 points and were in 7th place in the league table in the season we finished up 5th top.

And in Bobby Robson’s last season ten years ago, we had 32 points off our first 18 games and finally finished 5th top, and Bobby was famously fired the following August – because it wasn’t good enough.

And it’s not often we have so many Newcastle players playing at or near the top of their game, but that’s what we have right now, with Coloccini coming back into the side and forming a strong partnership with one of the surprise players this season - Mike Williamson.

Mike came on in the second half of the Everton game when we were 3-0 down,  and he’s been in the Newcastle side ever since, and it’s fair to say he’s been an absolute revelation after starting the season as Newcastle’s 4th choice center-back..

But our lads will need to be at their very best tomorrow against a strong Arsenal side, who have both Theo Walcott and  Lukas Podolski fit again.

It will be a tough game and it’s a good test for Newcastle to see just how good we are.

    a few points
    1. Colocinni is the worst of our four central defenders

    2. Every time our defence has been tested with him in it we have struggled. Stoke were on their way towards scoring more goals before Whelan got himself sent off.

    3. Unless we play three in midfield to shield the coloshitty-led defence, and tiote as one of those three we will concede no fewer than 3 goals against arsenal

    4. Had Pardumb left a working defence intact, playing 4-4-2 like we did v chelsea would have been an option against a rampant arsenal. With the piece of shit colocinni in defence 4-3-3 is the only alternative. Coloshitty is a liability. If only he’d get injured and f off back to argentina. if only

I have a more than average bad feeling about this game, i m hoping that my worst thoughts don,t come out.

This game “could”, ( That word again ) make or break our whole season? Win and we have a chance to grab a CL place, a loss will not be the end of the world.
At the same time, a loss will see all the Doom and Gloom merchants on here again. Watch this space?

The match officials more or less decided the game against Stoke, and the whole game pivotted on the two red cards given just before Half-Time. It is then not so surprising that Hughs threw his dummy out his Pram and had to watch frome the terraces! While i was happy with the win i would of preferred a 5-1 win against 11 players?

The Gunners are a whole different prospect, but we might even win with home advantage but a lot will depend on the match officials, on the day?

    Bring it On!
