It was really one piece of poor defending that beat Newcastle today against a good Arsenal side, and we didn’t really deserve to lose this game, but there’s not much in these tight games in the Premier League – it was very close.
Alan Pardew – we deserved something from the game
Here is Alan’s BBC interview after the game – and hey, it was just one of those games and unfortunately things didn’t go for us.

Comment #81Like i said we would be so much more of a threat with a decent big man up top with remy and even though his performances have been good dropping Anita

Comment #83How can you say Campbell is the same level as Sterling when he’s probably only played 45 mins of senior football!!
The difference between The level of the U21’s and the Prem is light years
I’m sorry but that is a ludicrous statement
As for Shola no he isn’t played to score he’s paid to sit deep and win the ball which he has done very very well this season
The fact we don’t have lower league teams queuing up to take him speaks volumes about where he is at the moment

Comment #84Manc, why does it always have to be big man up front, a nippy intelligent smaller player is a very good option imo. we have one.

Comment #85Ben3arfa – have no idea who you are, therefore aren’t giving you the attention and argument you clearly crave.
TADS – just shows how far from being the complete squad we need. Better depth than last season but still not the strength needed to truly challenge.
Jazzy – Nice to see you, my friend. Santa was very kind. Although he only granted me 1 day off which was poor of him! 🙂
Sage – Thauvin is gunning for a move again. His team enjoy the big pay off. Fantastic player, but really needs to settle down and stick it out somewhere.
As for us?!? Who knows?!? 🙂

Comment #87I’m sorry but I find anyone who finds Barca boring to watch absolutely insane or culturally bankcrupt or both. It’s football from another planet.
Liverpool who Rodgers says are trying to emulate Barca with their pass and move football, Pellegrini with 4+ goals a game city and Martinez with his eye catching style are a joy to watch and ar all la liga influenced.
Otherwise there would be more Pulis and Allardyce type teams. Thankfully even Pardew is now seeing the value in technical players passing the ball to each other..

Very true, we have better options on the bench, but those players are on the bench due to poor form rather than great depth, imo still need another 3-4 players to really push the top 6 consistently

Comment #91TADS – and that will involve spending money. Still need that central striker, and creative midfielder. Plus upgrade on willo / tayls. Not a massive list in all honesty, but this is Mike Ashley we are talking about. 🙂

Comment #92Just feel the team and pardew have the side setup for a big man, remy prefers a big man we have plenty of good crossers in the side and we need the option when we defend, negredo would have been perfect but we ain’t getting him I would like luuk de jong in jan

There’s a strange feel to this window, no real rumours flying about anywhere for any team!
Imo we are desperate for a CF but I can’t see him getting one with cisse on the bench!
You never know with fat ash so just wait and see I suppose, time to see if JFK has been earning his pay!

Comment #101Santon looked more effective at RW by the way, something I suggested at the start of the season, haha! But of course Sissoko’s position is in no way under threat. Seeing as how often Pards is putting Haidara on at Lb these days, I’d say he is going to start the next match
Krul
Debuchy–Willo–Colo–Haidara
Tiote–Anita–Cabaye
Sissoko–Cisse–Ben Arfa/Remy
I think Gouff needs a rest, he really looked jaded. Plus maybe Remy could be more of a threat coming in from the right. What I saw is that Remy dropped deep to help build the play today, and when we were advanced down the wing, there were hardly more than 1 player in the box! Cisse we know will always be around the penalty area, so we can give this setup a go no?

I meant exactly when you said why we don’t necessarily need a big target man as the top successful clubs don’t play that way or if they do the TM in question is extremely technically talented.
On to a winter break. It’s just much easier to be come skilful and technically enhanced if you’re playing on good surfaces. I would miss the festive footy too of course.

The most exiting football I have seen was probably us under Keegan with flying wingers and full backs, two strikers up top and goals galore (A big reason why some people became NUFC fans a while back)
or
Bayern under Heynckes before Guardiola took over at the point when they demolished Barca over two legs .
At the minute my favourite teams to watch are Arsenal, Dortmund and Everton .

67% of players in the prem are foreign and they seem to not get burn out when it comes to major tournaments. Also some players do well playing 38 league games and other players look knackered playing 20 games a year.
I do think they could cut back one game over winter. Keep Boxing Day and New Year’s Day game but maybe cut out this weekend one?
Most teams who have a winter break travel to Asia/America/Middle East and play friendlies anyway.

The key difference between KK’s entertainers and any othe side since (even SBR’s perhaps ???) is movement.
We always had options and movement off the ball. Players reacting to one another’s movement helps keep possession, encourages team work and builds confidence.
Under Pardwho we’re unlikely to hit those heights.

Comment #111we were 2nd best in the game,no doubt.i think the lads overestimated the gunners before kickoff.they were defeated mentally already that’s why we look shaky, disorganized and non-confident..arsenal look intelligent, organized and smart IMO,especially first half.
pardew’s selection of first eleven was absolutely correct IMO,it just the game setup didn’t work as expected and some of our guns didn’t had a good game, esp sissoko.we were well beaten.
but this loss doesn’t mean end of the world, yeah we slipped to 8th,we should bounce back like b4,i think the biggest difference 2day was we were mentally beaten.

Comment #113I don’t get some of you lot.How was pardwho right??
Were losing 1-0 at home and you have a choice.
A: do you bring a striker on with 1 goal every 6 games who hasn’t scored a league goal in over a year.
B:bring a striker on with a 1-3 ratio
C:bring a fullback on
if you picked A+C congratulations your as daft as pardwho. So sorry for raining on the parade but the substitutions were wrong for me.(apart from Ben Arfa)
At the end of the day no shame in losing to the top side, but with a little more bravery we may have got the draw.
I also don’t get why some of you slag posters off just because they don’t agree with your views.Don’t we all want the same thing.
