Vurnon Anita has retained his place even though Cheick Tiote returns to the line-up, after a one match suspension against Stoke City, and Ben Arfa finds himself on the bench after a Man of the Match performance on Thursday.
Cheick Tiote – returns to the side today
It looks like Newcastle will play in a 4-3-3 formation, with the middle line of Vurnon Anita, Cheick Tiote and Yohan Cabaye and a front three of Frenchmen Moussa Sissoko, Loic Remy and Yoan Gouffran.
Sammy Ameobi is on the bench and Steven Taylor again finds himself not included in the match day squad of 18.
For Arsenal Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud start, but no sign of German star Mesut Ozil.
This is going to be a tough game for Newcastle, and we’ll have to come out of the blocks like a steam train at the start of this game – and then keep it up.
Howay The Lads!!
Teams:
Newcastle: (4-3-3): Tim Krul; Mathieu Debuchy, Mike Williamson, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Davide Santon; Vurnon Anita, Cheick Tiote, Yohan Cabaye; Moussa Sissoko, Loic Remy, Yoan Gouffran
Substitutes: Rob Elliot, Massadio Haidara, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Sammy Ameobi, Hatem Ben Arfa, Shola Ameobi, Papiss Cisse

yeh we cannot afford to give them a head start. Arsenal though aren’t in top form at the minute, complaining of tiredness too. Giroud has gone slightly off the boil, no ozil and ramsey either…so a very good time to play them, probably best chance we’ll have to beat them all year.
They are still dangerous and this season rosicky looks revived, been the go to man for some big champs league games and he has delivered…hopefully we can get the win or draw.
As long as we show fight, skill and passion then the result isn’t the end of the world as these are one of the top teams in the league. Obviously pefer the win and a bad display but if we are to lose it needs to be because arsenal are at 100% and not because we are at 50%

Comment #88Anyone else read this:
Looks like Gabriel Obertan’s days at Newcastle United may be numbered.
I am reliably informed the former Manchester United winger has `flounced off in a huff’ after being told he is not involved today.
‘Spectators near the players’ car park saw the Frenchman leave St James’ Park about an hour ago and he did not look in the mood to return.
‘Obertan has been on the Newcastle bench for most of this season but has yet to make a Barclays Premier League start.
‘While Obertan is missing five Frenchmen start for Newcastle this afternoon, and three more are on the bench.

Exactly the same as you. I follow football to be entertained, trophies are a bonus with a cub like ours. Just want to see the lads do us and themselves proud after last season and give us all something to smile about.

Comment #96I remember when we beat Arsenal 3-1 at Highbury after going 1.0 down during SBR’s time. Then the 1.0 win when AC scored.
When did we last beat Arsenal at home?

Comment #100We know which Arsenal will turn up, but as ever its not a certainty which NUFC will. I initially went for a draw but I have a feeling we are in that familiar high place from where we are historically unceremoniously thrown down. I am hoping for a 2-1 or 1-1 which will confirm that we are in the right league position, but this game could point us in the direction of further down the pecking order. sorry to be a downer but HWTL in any case.
If the right Mags turn up though, woe to the gunners! 🙂
