Newcastle go through a season and sometimes we play well and get nothing out of the game, and sometimes we don’t play well and win the game, and it was really the former yesterday when we deserved at least a point from our performance, and after going behind Arsenal were hanging on in those last 15 minutes as Newcastle went for goals.
Vurnon Anita – big contribution this season
But we got nothing out of the game, and we’ll have to move forward and next up for Newcastle is another game at West Brom on Wednesday afternoon.
Vurnon Anita got another start for Newcastle yesterday and he had this to say today in the local press.
“The set-play was the difference between the two teams.” “It was a good game – up and down – between two strong teams, but the set-play went in, and they won.”
“I think we must take the positives out of the game, and out of the other games, and do our best on Wednesday. We want to win the game.”
“We must be ready. It’s going to be a tough game.” “But we must look at ourselves, be confident and do our best.”
“This is my second year in England,” “Normally, I have a vacation at this time, but you get used to it. You must do it.”
“We must win the games. We must be ready.” “You want to play. It’s part of your job when you come to England. You must go with it.”
The former Ajax midfielder and Dutch International has come on a ton this season, and is continually pushing Cheick Tiote for that central midfield position, but Vurnon is also picking up a few starts when Newcastle play in a 4-3-3 formation, which we did yesterday.
So we are not only getting some good performances out of Anita this season, but he’s one of the big reasons that Cheick Tiote is in the best form of his career at the moment.
That’s the contribution of Vurnon Anita so far this season – not too bad at all.

I agree on Anita. Good player that he is he doesn’t add enough to midfield. Neither Cabaye or Tiote drive forward making runs and we need that type of player who can also weigh in with a few goals.
I’ve said this since the start of the season.

Comment #4Excuse my username for a moment here…
But I honestly thought Anita was awful on Sunday. As he was on Boxing Day too until being brought off at half time.
I was at both games and he really was poor, had zero impact, couldn’t handle the physicality, seemed to dally on the ball.
I think he is technically very gifted, but I just hope that we can fit him into a working system and he can bulk up a bit.

Comment #5Totally agree with last post. Anita was woeful , he was pulled out of his defensive positioning constantly leaving the gaps in the defense that were exploited by Arsenal.

Comment #6Bills-son – see your point. Someone to provide what Ramirez did for Chelsea, before his form dropped.
I had hoped Sissoko would provide that role for us but his duties on the right have taken priority.

Comment #81) He is a good passer of the ball but only sideways and short passes. Should have the killer pass type of cabaye/xavi/iniesta
2) Too lightweight, definitely not a defensive midfield player. 9 out of 10 of his 50/50 challenge show he will lose
3) my opinion is that he is better as a full back than a centre midfield
