It’s interesting to note that Newcastle have been installed as favorites by SkyBet to sign to sign Phil Jagielka this January, but there doesn’t seem to be much logic in it at all.
Phil Jagielka – there’s no way he is joining Newcastle
For one things why on earth would Everton want to sell their captain and a current England International, as they are doing so well this season under new manager Roberto Martinez.
And why would Newcastle want to sign another central defender, when we have Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa and the experienced Steven Taylor unable to get into the starting line-up with Fab Coloccini and Mike Williamson currently the starters.
And with the captain Fab Coloccini being out for up to six weeks with a knee injury, it will give an opportunity to either Steven or Mapou to get a few starts in the Newcastle side, and both have waited patiently for their chance.
We would assume that SkyBet punters may have some inside information on Newcastle trying to sign Jagielka – but maybe not – and the last position Newcastle need to strengthen right now it seems, is at center-back.
Mike Williamson is in the best form of his career, and he was our Man of the Match in yesterday’s disappointing 1-0 defeat at West Brom.
And when you also consider the Everton captain signed a two year extension to his contract a year ago, we’re not sure this news has much truth in it at all.
But we’ve also been wrong before. 😀
What do you think?

It’s people like you who will put up with a substandard manager no matter what just cos we are top 10.
Yes we beat united, who doesn’t these days?, yes krul beat spurs and yes we beat chelsea when the much maligned Anita laid on a great goal for Remy in a rare breakaway .
But be honest are we a good watch who play great attacking football?
Where are our only flair players? Banished to the bench or not even in the squad.
Why are favourites like Colo brought straight back when he should have been nursed back slowly after his injury, not displacing a player in form.
Why is Shola still getting a gig?
Come on get real this isn’t a manager with his finger on the pulse is it?
We can only dream of a Wenger, Pellegrini, Martinez, Laudrup, Pochettino, Solksjaer etc, ie footballing managers who would make us good to watch again.

Comment #5Don’t agree we have an abundance of riches at CB. We are only where we are because Willo has upped his game. Saylor is vulnerable to injury as well as strange errors on the pitch, Colo is approaching his sell by date, if he isn’t already past it and we need to bring on one of the youngsters quickly as No3 and/or No4 CB or buy a quality player who can head the ball and has pace

Comment #6As much of a starter as the Remy Cabella story.
Seeing as we have only one half decent striker who’s on loan 1 or 2 strikers should be a priority.
We need a striker in the Shola mold just not shite, Remy is not an out and out striker, when we play with him up top we are poor. Remy goes out to the side all game which leaves us with no one to aim at.

Comment #12It’d have been good if we could have announced signings instead of reading of speculation and rumour.
Kinnear’s been with the club since June and we’ve yet to see any evidence to justify him.
What is he for?
What has he done that’s of any value?
Where’re the signings he’s asked to be judged on?

Comment #13Ed why not go through all of the possible ‘Skybet’ transfers, relating to Newcastle, we will have a new team.
By the we will have spent over£200 million.

Some interesting odds for January tranfers here
http://www.skybet.com/football/specials/transfer-specials?aff=9718&dcmp=ss_betlink_transtab
The 3 that caught my eye were:-
Cabaye 2:1 to move to PSG
Demba Ba 7:1 to move back to us
and the most surprising (to me anyway)
Phil Jagielka 9:1 favourite for a move to us.

Comment #15Colo’s absence presents a chance for Mapou, not for Staylor. He did well at West Brom. I always though Debuchy was right-footed but that tackle shows he’s equally good with his left!
