Newcastle In Shock Move for Montpellier Midfield Star

4:49 pm, Thursday, January 2nd, 2014 by Ed Harrison · 25 Comments

There are reports in France that Newcastle are in talks with Montpelier for their 23 year-old attacking midfield star Rémy Cabella, and it’s a shock move by the Magpies, since there have been no reports we were even interested in the player.

But the reports coming from the French press say that Newcastle are now in talks with Montpelier for the 17 times capped French U21 player.

Remy is an extremely creative player, who has tremendous skills and he has speed too, and the lad was previously linked with a potential move to Manchester United, but that did not materialize.

Cabella is not unlike Ben Arfa in terms of his abilities, and we think this lad would be an excellent signing for Newcastle but we don’t know how big the fee would be.

Of course Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa knows all about the player, since they were in the team that Mapou captained to their first ever French Championship back in 2012.

Cabella has played 19 times so far this season with six goals, and his club are 4th bottom of the French League with only 17 points from their 19 league games, and they are only 3 points above the drop zone.

And the French club are also financially stretched this season, so it could be a good deal for them if Newcastle can come in and give them a decent fee for what is their best player.

His transfer fee on tranfermarkt.com is quoted at €8M, which is around £6.6M, and that’s within the range of Newcastle this month.

And it could be that a goal-scoring winger is Newcastle’s top target this month, and not a striker, and that’s in part because of Yoan Gouffran already getting 7 goals, and we have Papiss Cisse and Shola Ameobi in reserve – so striker may not now be the top target in January, as it was last summer.

And from what we can tell this looks like another one that Graham Carr has scouted and recommended to Director of Football Joe Kinnear, and it would be a great start to the transfer window if Newcastle can quickly wrap this deal up.

We hope the reports are true – and here’s some video of this exciting player.

Kinnear signs three De Jongs and two Remy just to be safe.

    Scout,

How exactly is Pardew doing a brilliant job?. With the players we have, top 8 should be a given and minimum requirement.

How is he doing a brilliant job when the world and his wife could see some players were running on empty and needed rotating and resting over the Christmas / new year period.

We had Cisse, Ben Arfa, Haidara, MYM fresh as daisies and some like Marveaux nowhere to be seen.

Pardew is not bright enough and too arrogant and obstinate to compete with the likes of the new breed of modern, progressive new managers and will always be found out as he has been time and time again when it really matters ( v Swansea, Hull, West Ham etc.)

If you like 3 shots at goal per game then yes he is doing an amazing job.

Pardew is a grade above Pulis and Allardyce but at the moment we are 8th in spite of Pardew not because of him.

It’s a tragedy Ash won’t even have heard of the likes of Solksjaer and sadly probably nor has JFK!

    If i was Cabella I’d run a mile !!

£6.6m for cabella is a bargain and a half…….talk about January sales. As stated before would be an excellent addition to the squad

‘at the moment we are 8th in spite of Pardew not because of him.’

I am sorry but that’s bullshit.

looks a bargain at that price hopefully wont have ben arfas habit of shooting instead of passing, see if it actually materialises,
still think a consistent physical striker who can actually score is needed and a defender

Would show proper ambition if it materialises and we get a striker too. Striker is priority.

  • 13 NUFCarter // Jan 2, 2014 at 5:20 PM

Campbell played the full game too

    Mutiny

It’s people like you who will put up with a substandard manager no matter what just cos we are top 10.

Yes we beat united, who doesn’t these days?, yes krul beat spurs and yes we beat chelsea when the much maligned Anita laid on a great goal for Remy in a rare breakaway .

But be honest are we a good watch who play great attacking football?

Where are our only flair players? Banished to the bench or not even in the squad.

Why are favourites like Colo brought straight back when he should have been nursed back slowly after his injury, not displacing a player in form.

Why is Shola still getting a gig?

Come on get real this isn’t a manager with his finger on the pulse is it?

We can only dream of a Wenger, Pellegrini, Martinez, Laudrup, Pochettino, Solksjaer etc, ie footballing managers who would make us good to watch again.

    pottsclock

would show ambition getting a ”footballing” manager

  • 18 JaxtheMag // Jan 2, 2014 at 5:45 PM

any manager who keeps giving shola playing time has not got a clue. he hasn’t got a clue what he is doing with benny either. new manager needed. his tacktics are dreadful.

Smells like this is in anticipation of cabaye leaving to me.

  • 20 Sazzer // Jan 2, 2014 at 6:00 PM

For me there are a lot of players I would sell before considering off-loading Cisse. I would trade him if it get us someone better though.

We should get rid off Obertan, Marveux, Jonas, Shola, Colo and S.Taylor in this window and try to get players can make us challenge for the big money.

I’m not worried about letting so much experience go now since we are in such good position in table that we can a survive worst case scenario.

If we fail we might have to sell World-cup inflated player for big money in the summer.

    Let’s “galvanize ourselves.”

  • 21 JaxtheMag // Jan 2, 2014 at 6:20 PM

collo and cabaye want to leave, let them, see what cabaye does elsewhere, arsenal don’t need him,and man u will want a bigger star.

  • 22 Blofal // Jan 2, 2014 at 8:17 PM

If i could choose any manager for the toon it would be Pep Guardiola. I love watching the way his teams play.

  • 23 lochinvar // Jan 2, 2014 at 9:22 PM

Just sometimes we need to know how to draw a game rather than loose it..which is exactly what we did at WBA – a point there and against Arsenal, Hull and Mackems would be another 4 points – on top of winning elsewhere you can then start talking of CL places – we just need to become more steely and Pardew needs to take a tougher approach – no more mister nice guy just to keep some players happy – Pardew needs to be more Sargent Major and less Captain Sensible.

If we are supposedly in talks that means Joke in Ear is involved. Oh lordy

  • 25 Brutooon // Jan 2, 2014 at 10:27 PM
