Newcastle may have more business in the transfer market than we expected this month, with news already breaking today, the second day of the transfer market, that Newcastle are in negotiations with Montpellier on their top midfielder Remy Cabella, who is 23.
Gabby Obertan – could be on his way out of Newcastle this month
But there is also news that Newcastle will try to unload at least two French midfielders, who simply have not made it on Tyneside, and have played very rarely for the Newcastle first team this season.
Sylvain had a decent season last term, especially in the first half, but this season he has been frozen out, and has yet to appear for the Magpies, while Obertan has played just 4 times.
Loan moves could be arranged for the two wingers with a view to a permanent move in the summer, or a permanent transfer is possible this month too.
Steven Taylor’s future is also not clear, but with Fab Coloccini out with a knee injury he picked up yesterday at the Hawthorns, Steven could get a start against Cardiff City in the FA Cup on Saturday, where a win would be very welcome for the lads, after surprisingly losing our last two league games 1-0.
Mathieu Debuchy is also out for the next three games following his straight red card yesterday, and it looks like Steven will come in at center-back and Mapou Yanga Mbiwa will fill in for Mathieu Debuchy at right back on Saturday.
We can understand why Steven is thinking of his future, but we’d be very surprised if he is not still at Newcastle when February rolls around.

Is obertan, saylor, marv top players? If u put all of there apperances together there is 5. Plus there of stupid money for fringe players at the most. We need a top class forward tho. I do think this is cabayes replacement tho.

Comment #8What are you on about?
Cabella is a winger/CM so would be a good replacement for Obertan and Marveaux, neither of whom have been able to get near a starting berth. Hopefully this lad will do better.
It is 90% certain Cabaye will go for big money to a CL club after a successful showing at the World Cup next summer and his stock is sky high. That was always the likelihood and we are getting good value for his performances this season. Buy, play well , and sell on at a profit was always the model for us, trusting in Carr to unearth a younger model under the radar once again.
French players will be queuing up to leave that country now and we are very well placed to take advantage of the exodus. But we have to be prepared to change our personnel to take advantage. Out with the old, in with the new!

Comment #9How on earth would The Daily Mirror know ANYTHING about NUFC’s likely transfers.
The Mirror Group are owners of The Journal and the Chronic which are both still barred from SJP as far as I know..
Sheesh !!!!!
People are so gullible at transfer time.
The first you will hear about a new signing is when it’s a done deal.

Comment #11Blew is right. We’ve been told this is our model, so have the mindset of a selling club. In reality though none of the players we’ve bought cheap and nurtured have left yet.
If/when Cabaye goes I’ll be disappointed to lose him but if it’s anything over £15m I’ll have no complaints. He’s not playing CL or winning trophies with us, so feel he deserves a move. He’s no longer a young player.
This doesn’t mean I think our business has been great. Agree we need a striker, an improvement on Ameobi – someone who can hold the ball, bring others into play and also bag 10-15 a season. Remy signed permanently, or a replacement if he goes (this can wait until summer). A clone of Gouf for the other wing.
Strangely we’re being linked with Jags and Lescott. Don’t see either happening and don’t see the logic. Despite those who deride Taylor on here I believe he’s a decent prem CB. When you consider he’s currently our 4th choice CB that’s better depth than most prem clubs.
