Upcoming Games Could Be Banana Skins For Magpies

One of the things that our two successive defeats will have done is to bring a lot of us back down to earth, and in the four Christmas games, after winning the first two games with eight goals scored and only one against we lost the last two by a score of 1-0.

Soccer - Barclays Premier League - Manchester United v Newcastle United - Old Trafford

Fabricio Coloccini – could make Sunderland game?

Newcastle are in 8th place in the league table but still 6 points above 9th placed Southampton, and while we have played seven PL games since December 4th, the next seven are spread over the months of January and February, with only three this month, although the FA Cup tie with Cardiff  City is on Saturday.

And since we should beat Cardiff, who are on a bad run of form and results, that will now be a difficult game since we seem to be vulnerable to the weaker sides.

The West Brom win yesterday was their first in 10 games, and we found a way to lose that game yesterday, and that’s not what good precessional sides do.

Here are the upcoming league games with the Sunderland game on February 1st.

Sun 12	14:05	H	Manchester City
Sat 18	15:00	A	West Ham
Tue 28	19:45	A	Norwich City
Sat 01	15:00	H	Sunderland
Sat 08	15:00	A	Chelsea
Wed 12	19:45	H	Tottenham
Sun 23	13:30	H	Aston Villa

Sunderland are still rock bottom of the league table after losing 1-0 at home to Aston Villa, with a goal gifted from Lee Cattermole, and they will need wins to save them – although they are only 4 points behind 4th bottom Cardiff City and safety.

They will be looking forward to the Newcastle game, which is another chance to actually win a game, which they have done the last two times they have played Newcastle, including a 3-0 win tn the corresponding game last season.

Newcastle must beat Sunderland on February 1st – and while we know it’s only one game – we have a much better side than Sunderland, so how come we have lost the last couple of games?

And the games are now spread out, and  Coloccini even has a chance of making the home game against Sunderland, but at most he could miss only four league games, and we may get a more accurate prognosis of his injury today.

The next PL game is at home to Manchester City a week on Sunday, our bogey side, and a draw in that game would be a decent result with City now starting to play a lot better away from the Etihad Stadium than previously this season, and of course they hammered us 4-0 on the opening game of the season.

After the City game we play three teams fighting relegation – West Ham, Norwich and Sunderland – and they are in the bottom six right now, and those three could well be banana skins for Newcastle – and we could slip up.

How many points we can take out of the next four games is anybody’s guess – what do you think?

Hopefully the Great first half of the season will not be wiped out by a run of poor form and sustained injuries that cursed us last season.
We all speak of last January’s recruitment, but still say that was more out of desperation than planned. Thankfully the players bought in have improved the squad after adjusting to the pl, But it wasn’t a massive investement in the grand scheme of things to keepus in the pl

I think The TOON will find it a lot harder to get points the second half of the season. Pardew was hoping to double the 33 points, I can see us getting 20 points leaving us on 53 points for the season.

Poor yesterday started well then rapidly went downhill.

But I do think that some players are looking jaded
So for Saturdays cup game do you go for a shadow team:
    Hiadara, Taylor, Mbiwa, Dummett
Anita, Marveaux, Tiote, Santon, Ben Arfa

I have never seen a Tyne – wear derby played under a night sky in my time since 2001.

    I would be surprised

jettson1971 & HD – I’d be surprised if the police allowed the game to be played so late in the day. It gives people plenty of time to get tanked up and plus the end of the match would coincide with the start of Saturday night drinking.

Charlie @3 – I think there will be wholesale changes and your team is quite decent although Marveaux seems to be out the picture at the moment. More likely to be Jonas unless the rumours are true about his contract. I suspect Cardiff will field a weakend team also so that team should be good enough.

After west brom I think pardew needs to go .. Too negative .. Pochettino or laudrup are far better managers .. With the players we have he’s not good enough

That was my thoughts that Cardiff would field a weakened team and a lot of the TOON players will be match rusty and need 90 minutes on the pitch.
If Marvo is not flavour yeah Jonas or even Bigi

If Pardew wasn’t sacked in January 2013, it’s highly unlikely he’ll get the boot today.

Don’t get me wrong mate im no pardew fan but do feel sorry for the guy sometimes as he can only play with cards he’s dealt with. Yes at times he is negative and the players look jaded but who do you bring on ????…..replace remy or gouffran with cisse and strolla will not maintain our current position.
IF we finish in the top 7-8 and by chance win the fa cup will pardew still be classed as a failure or success !!

sweendog @7 – Exactly how was Pardew too negative against WBA? He played two strikers but was badly let down by Shola who had one of his anonymous days and Debouchy with a wreckless challenge. Many on here wanted a 5 man midfield with Anita which is surely more negative!

Agree that sometimes pards is damned if he does and damned if he don’t. I thought the squad he put out looked quite attack minded but like you say unfortunately certain players went missing for best part of the game

The problem is Pardew will never trust our players. I can see that even if had squad depth he would still not rotate.

Marveaux has been ruined by Pards. can’t believe he can’t get a start against WBA.

Yesterday’s result may be a blessing in disguise, lets face it at the start of the season most on here expected a relegation battle and after losing to the gunners we realistically lost the chance of getting CL.

Ashley should now realise we need strengthening and buy a striker, rb and lm.

If Marv doesn’t feature against Cardiff you know his career here is over (if that wasn’t obvious already).

Reckon the team will be more like
    Santon, Taylor, MYM, Haidara
    Obertan, Anita, Tiote, Jonas

Sharp enough that’s the only positive I can get from this .. I’ve always stuck up for pardew recently but its obvious if we had a tweak to a good manager eg laudrup we could be serious top 6

Hope Anita is rb for next game .. Although the 3 of cabaye tiote and Anita is great in midfield
