Newcastle Could Find It Tough Going Against Cardiff

West Brom had not won in their last 10 games, and in our poll on how we would fare against them on New Years Day,  a massive 66% thought we’d win and only 13% thought we’d lose the game, and for some reason when we are expected to win, we usually don’t.

fa cup
The same was true against Hull City, when a massive 85% thought we’d win the game, but we found a way to lose by 3-2, after being 2-1 up at half time.

And after two successive defeats we really need a win tomorrow to take us into the 4th round of the FA Cup, and it’s a game we are expected to win, and that in itself has us just a little worried, just like we were before the West Brom game. 🙁

Cardiff City have just appointed former Manchester United great Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as their new manager to replace the sacked Malky Mackay, and Cardiff City have just one win in their last 10 games, and interestingly enough that was a 1-0 home win against West Brom.

After that game West Brom manager Steve  Clarke was fired.

So with all that as a backdrop – let’s know how you think this game will go tomorrow.

How Will Newcastle Fare Against Cardiff City?

probably lose, we lost against the mackems when the new manager arrived, we lost against WBA with there caretaker manager, now Cardiff have a cracking new manager Ole Gunner so we will probably lose.

Ha ha Jail I saw those posts re: tads too its funny what happens when you jump in without your wellies on.

Croftus – heres the thing; if both are fully fit and on top form, who would you pick – Saylor or Willo? Willo or Yanga? Yanga or Saylor? They all have questionable traits.

going for a win to us.

i’d go mbiwa/willo/santon rb/hairdryer or dummet lb then stick cisse and remy up top together seeing as cisse is well well rested.

    very true m8

personally i’d go willo/mbiwa which would give us the right balance for the moment but must admit i think we need an allready prem standard young cb to improve with mbiwa as collo/willo and even saylor are getting on a bit.

Why can’t we simply put Santon in at RB and put either Haidera or Dummet in at LB?? Saylor then can be on the bench and come on as a sub to get some game time!?!?!

The back line has to be the one Pardew intends to use against Citeh and it better work, Alan!

Personally on cb’s, without Colo a bit of disorganisation creeps in. That’s the main problem if we lose colo.

A good cup run this year is vitally important, if we go out early we have officially nothing to play for, that fourth spot is tied up between Lpool, Everton and Man U as I think they will have a late run of form buoyed by a good CL showing, that ties up fifth and sixth, so we wil be fighting it out with Spurs for seventh, luckily for us it’s WC year which will at least keep some of the players motivated.

Change of subject. Anyone think Jelavic worth a look as a squad player as he is out of favour at Everton – more sense than either cbs mentioned?

There is no excuse for playing a weakened team tomorrow especially what happened at Brighton this time last year, I will be fuming if Sammi Amiobe starts, he’s quite simply not good enough.

I think we need to give the likes of Cabaye, Sissoko , Remy and Gouffran a rest can have them on the bench if its not working

    I would go for :

    Krul
    Santon Rb
    Mbiwa
    Willo
    Haidara LB
    Anita
    Bigi
    Tiote
    Arfa RW
    Sammy LW
    Cisse CF

If we cant beat Cardiff at home with that team then I am sorry but Pardew needs to be sacked on the spot and every player sold because that should be more than enough to deal with them comfortably

That midfield started one of the EL games last season, it was about as creative as paper mache.

    @Jail for Ashley

Thats true but we cant keep relying on Cabaye every single game to provide anything the wide players have to step up with those 3 in the middle we should surely have room for the wingers and fullbacks to really do some damage

Personally I would like Marveux in as a no 10 as a last chance saloon for him but I think he is probably gone already to be fair

I’d only make a couple of changes

    Cisse instead of Shola
    Mym for debuchy
    Saylor for colo

If that doesnt work then santon/dummett rb mym cb haidara/dummett lb. Leave the rest as is or swap Anita for either cabs/socks/cheik

    Santon,
I would like to see Marv given a last chance but I think there’s more to it than just form, there’s a lot happens behind the scenes that the media and fans never hear about and I think there’s been some serious fall out of some sort, he hasn’t shown enough when given a chance but had the most assists last season, surely more than Obertan and Sammi offer.

in all fairness i think he has to change a few things.

goofy is looking worn so would give him a well deserved 1 game rest tbh and i’d rest cabaye so would prob change the formation also.

    my team:

    santon/mbiwa/willo/hairdryer
    —————-tiote—————–
    arfa————————-sammy
    —————-sissoko————-
    ——–remy——–cisse———-

ofc wouldnt mind giving marv or guti one last attempt to prove themselves before i’d think about letting them go ! may be good motivation for them.

    Hull,
By all accounts Gouffran is looking jaded and some others need a rest, perhaps our squad isn’t as healthy as those claiming Ashley is the new Bill and Melinda Gates foundation for not spending in the summer think.

Gutti had apparently a good game the other night as our over age player in the u21’s win over Leicester. But still im afraid the lad has had his day.We need to move forward and not keep taking a step back unless they have something to offer

We looked jaded against Arsenal and I thought some of the players should have been changed in the West Brom starting 11.. Now we’re forced to change Debuchy and Colo (who, unfortunately, had not been those who looked jaded). Gouffron and Sissoko need a change and I expect Hatem and Guti to come in for them. Williamson probably deserves a break but is playing like a train and with 2 enforced changes already in pour back 4, maybe give Saylor a run out if we are winning handy with 20 minutes to go. Willo looks like a man who remembers all that time on the sidelines for Portsmouth and for us and treasures every playing minute now. It would take a brave man to drop him from a kickabout.

No contact between Newcastle and Montpellier for Remi Cabella

Mlactu understand that there is no contact between Remi Cabella or Montpellier and Newcastle for a possible move for the player. A claim that Get French Football News can confirm after receiving multiple versions of the story.

The Telegraph and the Daily Mail claimed that Newcastle had contacted Montpellier for the attacking midfielder Remi Cabella but at this stage there have been no discussions at all.

The British press is insistent that the player is interesting Newcastle and there is no evidence to suggest otherwise.

Montpellier will not sell for any less than €16m but need Cabella to ensure their Ligue 1 status in this second half of this season. Any attempt to sign the player this month will be made extremely difficult by President Nicollin who has a reputation of slowing talks down in an attempt to keep the player in question longer.

Another reported Newcastle target, Bafétimbi Gomis, has been in contact with multiple clubs in the last days and Get French Football News understands that a move this month is becoming more and more likely. Unfortunately, at this early stage, no further clarification is available.

Gomis missed training today with Lyon because of ‘a bad back’

    debuchy,willo,MYM,Santon(Haidara)
    …Cabaye……Tiote….Cabella
    HBA…………Ba………..Gouffy
may mix there Collo,Saylor,Anita,Sissoko,Remy,Shola…very strong squad

Jelavic is exactly the type of centre forward we need. Somebody who can hold the ball up. Probably available at a knockdown price as well. He’s been rubbish for a while though, but sure so has Cisse lol

Ba for 5-6 mill and recoup that from the sale of cisse-No brainer
Cabella ???? for 10-11 mill and recoup from the sale of marvs-obertan-gutti-saylor -no brainer
That would give us 2 more first team players who would definitely push if not play in the first team rather than having 3-4 fringe players that add nothing to the squad
