Newcastle Could Find It Tough Going Against Cardiff

10:33 am, Friday, January 3rd, 2014 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 107 Comments

West Brom had not won in their last 10 games, and in our poll on how we would fare against them on New Years Day,  a massive 66% thought we’d win and only 13% thought we’d lose the game, and for some reason when we are expected to win, we usually don’t.

fa cup
The same was true against Hull City, when a massive 85% thought we’d win the game, but we found a way to lose by 3-2, after being 2-1 up at half time.

And after two successive defeats we really need a win tomorrow to take us into the 4th round of the FA Cup, and it’s a game we are expected to win, and that in itself has us just a little worried, just like we were before the West Brom game. :(

Cardiff City have just appointed former Manchester United great Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as their new manager to replace the sacked Malky Mackay, and Cardiff City have just one win in their last 10 games, and interestingly enough that was a 1-0 home win against West Brom.

After that game West Brom manager Steve  Clarke was fired.

So with all that as a backdrop – let’s know how you think this game will go tomorrow.

How Will Newcastle Fare Against Cardiff City?

Well win this one, hopefully iron out a few kinks before the Citeh match.

  • 2 Jail for Ashley // Jan 3, 2014 at 10:36 AM

    Jail’s too good for Ashley.

  • 3 Black and White with an army lol // Jan 3, 2014 at 10:37 AM

probably lose, we lost against the mackems when the new manager arrived, we lost against WBA with there caretaker manager, now Cardiff have a cracking new manager Ole Gunner so we will probably lose.

  • 4 Tsunki // Jan 3, 2014 at 10:39 AM

Ha ha Jail I saw those posts re: tads too its funny what happens when you jump in without your wellies on.

Croftus – heres the thing; if both are fully fit and on top form, who would you pick – Saylor or Willo? Willo or Yanga? Yanga or Saylor? They all have questionable traits.

  • 5 croftus5678 // Jan 3, 2014 at 10:42 AM

going for a win to us.

i’d go mbiwa/willo/santon rb/hairdryer or dummet lb then stick cisse and remy up top together seeing as cisse is well well rested.

  • 6 Zangwill_Ho // Jan 3, 2014 at 10:43 AM

Great chance to lose again this time

  • 7 croftus5678 // Jan 3, 2014 at 10:46 AM

    @4 tsunki

    very true m8

personally i’d go willo/mbiwa which would give us the right balance for the moment but must admit i think we need an allready prem standard young cb to improve with mbiwa as collo/willo and even saylor are getting on a bit.

  • 8 Scottiedog // Jan 3, 2014 at 10:54 AM

Why can’t we simply put Santon in at RB and put either Haidera or Dummet in at LB?? Saylor then can be on the bench and come on as a sub to get some game time!?!?!

  • 9 Tsunki // Jan 3, 2014 at 10:55 AM

The back line has to be the one Pardew intends to use against Citeh and it better work, Alan!

Personally on cb’s, without Colo a bit of disorganisation creeps in. That’s the main problem if we lose colo.

  • 10 jordijohnty // Jan 3, 2014 at 10:56 AM

If we do lose this, there will be something fishy going on at this club

  • 11 jazzyp // Jan 3, 2014 at 10:57 AM

Game against the mackems has been changed to a dinner time 12.45 on feb 1st. tgi Friday-shearers bar then in to the ground for some mackem slaying……….perfect day with a 3-0 win

  • 12 Jail for Ashley // Jan 3, 2014 at 11:12 AM

A good cup run this year is vitally important, if we go out early we have officially nothing to play for, that fourth spot is tied up between Lpool, Everton and Man U as I think they will have a late run of form buoyed by a good CL showing, that ties up fifth and sixth, so we wil be fighting it out with Spurs for seventh, luckily for us it’s WC year which will at least keep some of the players motivated.

  • 13 HullMag6 // Jan 3, 2014 at 11:13 AM

Change of subject. Anyone think Jelavic worth a look as a squad player as he is out of favour at Everton – more sense than either cbs mentioned?

  • 14 Jail for Ashley // Jan 3, 2014 at 11:15 AM

There is no excuse for playing a weakened team tomorrow especially what happened at Brighton this time last year, I will be fuming if Sammi Amiobe starts, he’s quite simply not good enough.

  • 15 santonthenewmaldini // Jan 3, 2014 at 11:19 AM

I think we need to give the likes of Cabaye, Sissoko , Remy and Gouffran a rest can have them on the bench if its not working

    I would go for :

    Santon Rb
    Haidara LB
    Arfa RW
    Sammy LW
    Cisse CF

If we cant beat Cardiff at home with that team then I am sorry but Pardew needs to be sacked on the spot and every player sold because that should be more than enough to deal with them comfortably

  • 16 Jail for Ashley // Jan 3, 2014 at 11:22 AM

That midfield started one of the EL games last season, it was about as creative as paper mache.

  • 17 toonarmydownsouth // Jan 3, 2014 at 11:22 AM

I have no idea what you mean, i was as always deadly serious!……..:)

  • 18 santonthenewmaldini // Jan 3, 2014 at 11:24 AM

    @Jail for Ashley

Thats true but we cant keep relying on Cabaye every single game to provide anything the wide players have to step up with those 3 in the middle we should surely have room for the wingers and fullbacks to really do some damage

Personally I would like Marveux in as a no 10 as a last chance saloon for him but I think he is probably gone already to be fair

  • 19 HullMag6 // Jan 3, 2014 at 11:28 AM

I’d only make a couple of changes

    Cisse instead of Shola
    Mym for debuchy
    Saylor for colo

If that doesnt work then santon/dummett rb mym cb haidara/dummett lb. Leave the rest as is or swap Anita for either cabs/socks/cheik

  • 20 Jail for Ashley // Jan 3, 2014 at 11:29 AM

I would like to see Marv given a last chance but I think there’s more to it than just form, there’s a lot happens behind the scenes that the media and fans never hear about and I think there’s been some serious fall out of some sort, he hasn’t shown enough when given a chance but had the most assists last season, surely more than Obertan and Sammi offer.

  • 21 croftus5678 // Jan 3, 2014 at 11:30 AM

in all fairness i think he has to change a few things.

goofy is looking worn so would give him a well deserved 1 game rest tbh and i’d rest cabaye so would prob change the formation also.

    my team:

ofc wouldnt mind giving marv or guti one last attempt to prove themselves before i’d think about letting them go ! may be good motivation for them.

  • 22 Jail for Ashley // Jan 3, 2014 at 11:35 AM

By all accounts Gouffran is looking jaded and some others need a rest, perhaps our squad isn’t as healthy as those claiming Ashley is the new Bill and Melinda Gates foundation for not spending in the summer think.

  • 23 jazzyp // Jan 3, 2014 at 11:37 AM

Gutti had apparently a good game the other night as our over age player in the u21′s win over Leicester. But still im afraid the lad has had his day.We need to move forward and not keep taking a step back unless they have something to offer

  • 24 Sav // Jan 3, 2014 at 11:57 AM

We looked jaded against Arsenal and I thought some of the players should have been changed in the West Brom starting 11.. Now we’re forced to change Debuchy and Colo (who, unfortunately, had not been those who looked jaded). Gouffron and Sissoko need a change and I expect Hatem and Guti to come in for them. Williamson probably deserves a break but is playing like a train and with 2 enforced changes already in pour back 4, maybe give Saylor a run out if we are winning handy with 20 minutes to go. Willo looks like a man who remembers all that time on the sidelines for Portsmouth and for us and treasures every playing minute now. It would take a brave man to drop him from a kickabout.

  • 25 lesh // Jan 3, 2014 at 12:05 PM

Now, what would one think if Saylor didn’t play against Cardiff?

  • 26 Jail for Ashley // Jan 3, 2014 at 12:07 PM

    A rare line up
    Mbwia. Santon
    Willo STaylor
    HBA. Anita Tiote. Guti
    Shola Cisse

  • 27 HullMag6 // Jan 3, 2014 at 12:10 PM

Fair one, jail. Oh well – we shall see what we shall see.

  • 28 toonbrother // Jan 3, 2014 at 12:12 PM

    @ 15santonthenewmaldini
take a bow son. Excellent post. Pardumb has more than enough resources at his disposal to achieve the success this club craves and deserves. His underuse of Bigirimana and Marveaux is nothing short of criminal

  • 29 wolfshead@toon // Jan 3, 2014 at 12:13 PM

shola and cisse two names guaranteed to strike fear into the hearts of defenders

  • 30 Belfast // Jan 3, 2014 at 12:14 PM

Be interesting to see his team selection tomorrow.
His record in the cups is awful like.

No contact between Newcastle and Montpellier for Remi Cabella

Mlactu understand that there is no contact between Remi Cabella or Montpellier and Newcastle for a possible move for the player. A claim that Get French Football News can confirm after receiving multiple versions of the story.

The Telegraph and the Daily Mail claimed that Newcastle had contacted Montpellier for the attacking midfielder Remi Cabella but at this stage there have been no discussions at all.

The British press is insistent that the player is interesting Newcastle and there is no evidence to suggest otherwise.

Montpellier will not sell for any less than €16m but need Cabella to ensure their Ligue 1 status in this second half of this season. Any attempt to sign the player this month will be made extremely difficult by President Nicollin who has a reputation of slowing talks down in an attempt to keep the player in question longer.

Another reported Newcastle target, Bafétimbi Gomis, has been in contact with multiple clubs in the last days and Get French Football News understands that a move this month is becoming more and more likely. Unfortunately, at this early stage, no further clarification is available.

Gomis missed training today with Lyon because of ‘a bad back’

  • 32 wolfshead@toon // Jan 3, 2014 at 12:16 PM

the same thing was once said when sbr was manager can pardew succeed where others have failed or do the fans have unrealistic expectations of the team

  • 33 Belfast // Jan 3, 2014 at 12:16 PM

Doe’s anybody actually know where Marveaux is ??

Should certainly be ahead of the likes of Obertan and Sammy Ameobi in my opinion.

  • 34 Toonfan8 // Jan 3, 2014 at 12:16 PM

we should sold Cisse, Obertan deadwood and sign Ba and Cabella….that would be massive improve, maybe 18 M on both and we can get maybe 10M for deadwood…best team should be
may mix there Collo,Saylor,Anita,Sissoko,Remy,Shola…very strong squad

  • 35 Belfast // Jan 3, 2014 at 12:20 PM

    Hull Mag,

Jelavic is exactly the type of centre forward we need. Somebody who can hold the ball up. Probably available at a knockdown price as well. He’s been rubbish for a while though, but sure so has Cisse lol

  • 36 Belfast // Jan 3, 2014 at 12:23 PM

I’d be a bit gutted if Ba went to west ham like, and we didn’t even try to get him to come back to us

  • 37 jazzyp // Jan 3, 2014 at 12:27 PM

    Toon fan
Ba for 5-6 mill and recoup that from the sale of cisse-No brainer
Cabella ???? for 10-11 mill and recoup from the sale of marvs-obertan-gutti-saylor -no brainer
That would give us 2 more first team players who would definitely push if not play in the first team rather than having 3-4 fringe players that add nothing to the squad

  • 38 mag // Jan 3, 2014 at 12:31 PM

If Pardew doesn’t fancy playing Obertan, Jonas, Biggi, Cisse, marveaux, Sammy and Saylor why doesn’t he move them on and sign some decent players and while he’s at it resign and let the club get a proper manager!

  • 39 Toonfan8 // Jan 3, 2014 at 12:33 PM

I have same opinion as you….

  • 40 roy // Jan 3, 2014 at 12:34 PM

    Pardew just go

  • 41 Rotonda heights // Jan 3, 2014 at 12:35 PM

We do seem to enjoy giving teams who have had a bad run their confidence back..

Our dilemma now is that we don’ t realistically have much hope of overhauling any of the 7 teams above us due to some calamatous rotation, selection and tactical decisions over the festive period. Take a bow Pardew.

However, that neatly gets Pardew away from any danger of his hated Europa league.

Pardew’s dilemma now is that the likes of Remy, Cabaye and others will want to work with a CL manager which is something Pardew will never in all reality ever be.

Like Cabella would come here and suffer the Ben Arfa and Marveaux treatment in a 3 shots on goal in 90 min team!!

  • 42 wolfshead@toon // Jan 3, 2014 at 12:35 PM

assley doesnt have a brain well not a football one anyway

  • 43 wolfshead@toon // Jan 3, 2014 at 12:38 PM

is that why remy chose qpr he expected them to be a cl team this season

  • 44 Rotonda heights // Jan 3, 2014 at 12:39 PM

Could you imagine JFK attracting any player worth his salt here

  • 45 Rotonda heights // Jan 3, 2014 at 12:40 PM

I see Mr Ranger is at it again LOL:-

  • 47 Rotonda heights // Jan 3, 2014 at 12:42 PM

    lesh @25

    That hopefully he’s leaving

  • 48 Toon1978 // Jan 3, 2014 at 12:46 PM

Reading that we will only go for Cabella if HBA or Cabaye go. To, that is standing still with no progress. Does it not make sense to add to the quality we already have? Is Mr Ashley going to spend some money this window? Not overly optimistic that we will. Ashley does not do progress.

  • 49 Rotonda heights // Jan 3, 2014 at 12:47 PM

    Rest some + play

    Santon, Willo, ,MYM, Haidara

    Anita Marveaux Tiote

    Benny Cisse Remy

  • 50 jazzyp // Jan 3, 2014 at 12:47 PM

He got Remy in although be it a loan deal.My issue as stated before is that unless we address the Cf position sooner rather than later we are going to be in a whole world of sh@t.I hope im proven wrong but I don’t believe Remy will sign permanently and that leaves Cisse and shola who would struggle to bag you 10 goals between them for the season never mind keep you in the Pl

  • 51 Rotonda heights // Jan 3, 2014 at 12:50 PM

Will it make any difference with the manager we have bringing in more players.

Enough good players before they were Pardewed can’t get a gig now.

pardew is the cancer stopping something really good happening with his repeated mistakes.

  • 52 mag // Jan 3, 2014 at 12:50 PM

I think we need a change of manager after 3years of mediocrity Pardew has had a good run but his race is over in terms of reaching the higher echelons of the Premier league and cup glory. The last two games showed his shortcomings bringing defenders on when the game is lost, playing five in midfield at home instead of 4-4-2 and not dropping Santon after the Arsenal debacle proved beyond doubt he is not a top manager.

  • 53 toonbrother // Jan 3, 2014 at 12:56 PM

its sickening to hear people clamour for the resigning of Ba and the sale of Cisse. Cisse is having ONE bad season (worsened by the fact he isnt playing due to Remy’s great form) and we are already prepared to dump him. Same disgusting attitude we had towards Williamson and Tiote when they went through bad patches. Meanwhile we want to resign Ba – a guy who treated the club like dirt, prostituted himself to Arsenal and dumped us unceremoniously for Chelsea

Honestly this is why i dont blame players for being disloyal to their clubs. Fans are so fickle and disloyal to players why should they be any different??????

  • 54 Belfast // Jan 3, 2014 at 12:59 PM

Best thing to happen to Ranger, would be one of gangster mates shooting him in the head at point blank range…

  • 55 toonarmydownsouth // Jan 3, 2014 at 1:03 PM

Aye it’s fcuking annoying when people bang on and in and on about one player over and over and over again……..,,,.,

  • 56 mag // Jan 3, 2014 at 1:05 PM

Under Pardew we may as well have a fifteen man squad as the only subs he uses are Yanga, Haidara Shola and HBA!

  • 57 wolfshead@toon // Jan 3, 2014 at 1:07 PM

theres some frothing at the mouth going on here lol

  • 58 SharpEnough23 // Jan 3, 2014 at 1:08 PM

  • 59 toonbrother // Jan 3, 2014 at 1:09 PM

oh before i forget Coloshitty sucks. thank goodness we wont be seeing that fuzzy haired clown for at least a couple of weeks. Gives us a chance to get a few clean sheets under our belt

  • 60 croftus5678 // Jan 3, 2014 at 1:11 PM

    @52 tb

i agree with you on ba i mean can no one remember what he was like when with us ? always praising the team always giving 100% being pretty much the only striker to score for us till cisse came and then having the cheek to want to play in his striking role even though our fans was abusing him on his personal twitter account and to boot he cost us a fortune and we only got 7.5mil for him :-( disgracefull imo.

  • 61 Belfast // Jan 3, 2014 at 1:11 PM

Cisse’s actually been shite for two seasons now to be honest toonbrother

  • 62 SharpEnough23 // Jan 3, 2014 at 1:13 PM

Tbh i can’t see any club taking another chance in the plastic gangster now, reckon his career is officially over, soon he’ll be seriously fcuked once his money runs out and his “mates” will be off

  • 64 wolfshead@toon // Jan 3, 2014 at 1:15 PM

one thing we agree on colo it was a silver lining on sat when he limped off for 6 weeks hopefully

  • 66 wolfshead@toon // Jan 3, 2014 at 1:17 PM

    do i detect sarcasm :-)

  • 67 mag // Jan 3, 2014 at 1:18 PM

More evidence of pardews dodgy decisions sticking with the statuesque Colloccini the guy is a liability.

  • 68 jazzyp // Jan 3, 2014 at 1:22 PM

would you class last season as a success for cisse ??
…….What does it say when the manager is picking strolla over him.I would love nothing more than for cisse to find his goal scoring boots again but I believe that the second half of the season he signed for us was a one off.
As for Ba I agree that he went about leaving nufc in the wrong way, But does that mean you want rid of remy or cabaye or colo or ben arfa ohand I forget shall we chuck cisse in to that fold who tried to manufacture a move away in the summer with the Wonga bullsh@t .

  • 69 toonbrother // Jan 3, 2014 at 1:22 PM

yeah I remember how he and his agent went on Twitter to have a go at the manager for having the temerity to play him on the left and cisse through the middle even though it was the best formation for the TEAM ta the time.

I remember him complaining about lack of goals in the second half of our penultimate season because Demba Ba’s goals obviously takes priority in his mind and the team’s success is just an afterthought .. It must have been a delight to have such a spoiled brat in the dressing room.

I remember how he heaped praise on Arsenal openly in the media despite the fact he was employed by newcastle

., I would have had more respect for him if he was kicking up a fuss at chelsea given that he barely make sthe match day squad let alone the first 11. It would have shown he is at least consistent in his tantrum throwing. The fact he behaves himself there and not here shows how little regard his has for my club. Sorry i do not want such a player here

  • 70 martoon // Jan 3, 2014 at 1:24 PM

toonarmydownsouth @62 – Spot on once his money runs out (or he ends up in jail) his mates will all disappear.

Mag @51 – We could all be manager with 50 – 50 hindsight. Most on this blog thought Pardew had selected the right team against Arsenal to stop them overunning us in midfield and it mostly worked.

  • 71 NUFCarter // Jan 3, 2014 at 1:24 PM

    Geddon lad! Lovely finish.

  • 72 mag // Jan 3, 2014 at 1:27 PM

The reason Cisse is not playing well is Pardew doesn’t play wingers all the play goes through the middle more evidence of his limited tactics.

  • 73 mag // Jan 3, 2014 at 1:31 PM

Martoon well most of the blog got it wrong just like Pardew. Whats the use of playing five midfielders and getting beat because we didn’t have any goal threat at home?

  • 74 Toonfan8 // Jan 3, 2014 at 1:35 PM

Cisse is useless without his goals, he offers nothing, isnt good in hold up play, linking play, not strong enough in the air, not quick and always offside, i want him to find his luck again, but simply for some reasons cant see it coming. Toonbrother I remember him in casinos when others prepared for season, so he isnt that character I want at NUFC

  • 75 jazzyp // Jan 3, 2014 at 1:35 PM

    Now we have got into a cracking debate about loyalty to nufc toonbrother I would like to give you an option ;
Do you sell Cabaye to Psg for £22 mill because we all know he is going to go sooner rather than later. And then pay off Pardew and bring in the likes of laurdraup and actually play attractive football rather than the drivel mediocre tactics we all complain about week in week out. And with the spare change bring in the likes of Ince or Cabella or Gomis or Lescott to move the club forward rather than stagnating as we are

  • 76 Toonfan8 // Jan 3, 2014 at 1:36 PM

and Demba Ba is more goalthreat than Cisse and better in any other aspects of the game

  • 77 yo-yo // Jan 3, 2014 at 1:37 PM

Likening Pardew to cancer is pretty sick even for you who hates the guy.

  • 78 croftus5678 // Jan 3, 2014 at 1:38 PM

    @68 tb

i dont understand why ba was played on the wing either so i’m with ba on that one !

ba is no winger never was and to boot he was on top top form before cisse arrived but he was the one punnished (without moaning at first) but i remember this blog many many times after games with people ranting about cisse like he was the worlds best (and i must admit at the time i was almost with them) but ba got slated because his goals had dried up ! (playing on the wing) there was even talk of selling him off several fans because of it ! yet i’m sure this is all forgotten because of the way he’s now left.

and maybe he’s not kicking up a fuss because chelsea was his big move for money/medals and the fact he needs to make it work with them or his career would more than likely go backwards and that includes coming back to us with chelsea being a class above.

  • 79 Rotonda heights // Jan 3, 2014 at 1:42 PM

    Nothing to do with hindsight

A trained chimp could see some players were running on empty and needed resting and rotating over the festive period.

It is hardly the first time our progress has been blighted by his absolute stupidity. The guy is just thick at times.

  • 80 toonbrother // Jan 3, 2014 at 1:43 PM

We need to hang on to Cabaye for as long as possible in my opinion. A player like that doesn’t come around too often.
Not sold on Cabella, Lescott or Gomis. Would Ince improve a side even Hatem Ben Arfa and Marveaux are struggling to break into? I reckon we have enough wingers/wing forwards as it is

  • 81 jazzyp // Jan 3, 2014 at 1:44 PM

I understand your frustration with what Ba did but your talking about half the nufc squad has played the same card as what Ba did.
People on here were accepting gomis to come here in the last transfer window but he was doing exactly the same thing at lyon to manufacture a move away in the summer.
imo Loic remy did a far greater sin against nufc then ba ever did and yet we have accepted him for what he brings to the team and that is goals

  • 82 Rotonda heights // Jan 3, 2014 at 1:46 PM

    yo yo

Get over yourself. It’s a well used phrase to describe something that is destroying something good with no personal insinuation or attachment to any individual whatsoever, so pull yer head out of your proverbial.

  • 83 jazzyp // Jan 3, 2014 at 1:48 PM

Agree on the cabaye issue as we have no player like him in the squad.
Im simply trying to point out that mate that in the best interest of nufc is not always the one that sits right with the fans

  • 84 Toonfan8 // Jan 3, 2014 at 1:49 PM

if we can bring in Cabella and Ba, our goal threat will increase, Ba is natural striker and Cabella is in good goalscoring form…i see great team in this
    home team
away team…or so…pardew can rotate team with them and we should be prepared for europa league with this squad

  • 85 mag // Jan 3, 2014 at 1:49 PM

Pardew says my players are jaded yet does nothing about it, no rotation of the squad against WBA who are manager less and awful to watch. Yet Pardew hands them a win after nine games without one, because of his lack of leadership skills.

  • 86 ilovetoon8788 // Jan 3, 2014 at 1:55 PM

Cisse thrives in formations that have an out and out winger whipping crosses in. We don’t have that anymore. We play a different tactic that suits a different style of forward.

Best we part ways. He’s better off in another club.

We average 3 shots on goal in the last 2 games. It’s not the players we have or are looking to bring in , it’s our ultra conservative manager who is the problemi.

Cisse, Ben Arfa, Marveaux etc at one time all looked decent players with lots of attacking threat, plus Anita and MYM. Since they’ve been Pardewed they look shadows of their former selves.

If Cabella came in how long would it take for him to be Pardewed ? It’s been a pattern all of Pardew’s career stretching back to Tevez and Mascherano.

i understand your point, i dont like pardew, but i am fair to him, he had one great season and one very bad…now it is in the middle, he is manager that can bring top ten…but never really wants to risk going for top four or preparing team for it…if he really wants to do it, players like HBA must be in the team somewhere…or MYM for me before Colo, we played great with MYM and Willo and he gave MYM on the bench…Anita is question where is played Cabaye, if he is in the n.10 role, then Anita is played at cm with Tiote, if we are with 4 man midfield, anita isnt going to get much playing time, as there is cabs and tiote, maybe sissoko before him…i think our best squad now should be

What you on mate. Trained chimp could see?? We could have drawn with arsenal nowt wrong with the players. Why rotate against a team that hasn’t won in 9. Our players have done great what makes you think Hidara is ready for a full game and bennys a dead loss running round until he loses the ball.
There’s a reason why pardew is in charge and the points total doesn’t lie

  • 91 sweendog // Jan 3, 2014 at 2:32 PM

Has to be MYM and Willo in the Centre .. then anita RB .. good solid team there with little change .. although I think Anita is great alongside Cabaye and Tiote.

  • 92 sweendog // Jan 3, 2014 at 2:34 PM

as for gouffran he needs a rest .. he’s an excellent player but the last 2 games were 2 games too much .. put Arfa in there and haidara at LB, he’s more defensive than Santon ..

  • 93 sweendog // Jan 3, 2014 at 2:37 PM

    ……………… Krul ………………….
    Anita..willo…mym.. …………Hiadara
    …….cabaye………tiote…………Arfa (or here)..
    Sissoko……….Arfa (here)………..remy

I think it’s a bit naughty having a go at Percy all the time. The bloke has been trying his best. He’s not the greatest manager but he is in the hot seat currently.
Percy has been trying to make our French players feel at home and I understand he has been trying to learn a bit of French, and has taken some short vacations in the south of France cycling -see video footage below.
Not really appropriate suggesting he was a trained chimp.

  • 95 luke.r // Jan 3, 2014 at 2:40 PM

alright lads, not commented on here in a long time!

not read all of these comments but i thought id chip in..

As for as jelavic is concerned, he is a bad football with no confidence at all! we should go nowhere near him! Weve already got a player in Cisse who is pretty much the same as him!

And i cant see this Cabella story being true at all. Pardew and JFK have kept saying they want english faces in the team. Would make no sense to buy him.

  • 96 sweendog // Jan 3, 2014 at 2:43 PM

luke.r .. suppose the key bit is where did the info come from .. I reckon we asked about him and thats as far as it got .. although we are definately looking a winger .. Diego Capel link, Cabella .. mind you we need a home grown british player which is the only problem we have .. as theres none available at the right price .. ie peanuts

  • 97 toonaids // Jan 3, 2014 at 2:45 PM

    ————– krul
    haids staylor williamson dummet
    Santon —–marv—–Sameobi

get cisse in the shop window and get rid while people still think hes good. we can only keep him if we have a target man upfront with him and that reverts us back to hoof ball so mayaswell egt rid.

i would one hundred percent take back BA BA BA
maybe even swap cisse for jelavic as a punt as well.
but 10 mill for BA. hes quality at a team liek us

  • 98 sweendog // Jan 3, 2014 at 2:45 PM

as for Jelavic .. same as the other Everton cast offs .. not worth it .. same for Heitinga .. we need players like MBwia but with a good string heading ability, fast (important) and can play the ball .. if we get a plodder then we’re moving backwards

  • 99 sweendog // Jan 3, 2014 at 2:47 PM

toonaids . would love Ba back but you have to remember the knee .. he could cost a bit and he’d have to sign a contract with an injury clause ..

  • 100 sweendog // Jan 3, 2014 at 2:48 PM

Mister Tuff .. I used to agreed on Pardew being good .. he seems to be a good man manager .. 70% of the job IMO .. the only problem is with tactics, and he’s sh*t at that one unfortunately.

that pg ad is a blast from the past you must be as old as me ;-)

  • 102 luke.r // Jan 3, 2014 at 2:58 PM

sweendog- We possibly asked about him though it wouldn’t surprise me if we didn’t. The amount of lies I’ve read in the papers is just ridiculous! No idea why the Ince rumours have completely stopped and I’m disapointed in that.

Don’t want big Johny at all. Everton have got 4 very good centre backs but as a Dutch international, he’s their 5th choice. (not the sort of player we want) though he does have prem experience and it is about time we got someone who didnt have to adjust do another country’s way of football.

  • 103 jayphoto // Jan 3, 2014 at 3:01 PM

Interestingly with Ba, he left Hoffenheim because he was sick of playing on the left of a 3!
I liked him as a toon player, hes a talent, but hes shown himself for what he is in his conduct when leaving Hoffenheim, he showed no loyalty to west ham despite them forking out big money for him, and he showed no loyalty to us when we needed him to stick with us! If hes behaving at Chelsea its most likely down to the huge wages hes sat on!
Like i said, good player but for what he ‘d cost in transfer fee and wages, id rather we brought in a striker that we could get 4/5 years out of!

Yes I did get over my cancer thank you.

Pity you can’t get over your pathological hatred of the manager.

He’s mediocre and no worse than that.
We’ve scored within 3-4 goals of Manure and Everton and a load more than Spuds so your ‘defensive’ slur is total s**ite.
Your highly selective use of statistics is just naff .

  • 105 Mister Tuff // Jan 3, 2014 at 3:13 PM

sweendog – Percy is probably ok at the man management stuff. Whilst I think a manager should be positive about players – my opinion is that he probably does not have a good enough squad – he says publicly we do – granted it’s getting better -slowly – but it’s not good enough to challenge seriously for anything. We have some decent individuals -who as of yet have not been moulded into a consistent team -there are clearly a few of the jig-saw pieces missing.
I think we’ll get at least two players in this window. I hope they are quality mature players -not loannees -maybe apart from Luuk de Jong until the summer. They had better not be a couple of youngsters for the future -so it can be used to suggest JFK is doing his job. We have lost 2 league games -will be a third shortly when we get a walloping off City. I think we were getting carried away a bit with the recent run but we have landed back on the ground with a bump -back to reality and our problems re-emerge.

Think its going to be very interesting this january! The kind of personality joe kinnear is makes me think he ‘ll be desperate to prove hes doing something! No signings mean no credit for him and I think he’ll want to hone in on that!
Ince would be a no brainer for me! Looks like we ‘re letting them have Gosling on a free too, might be something in that!
Personally I like callum mcmanaman! Hated his horror challenge on haidara but weve had decent success with scousers in the past!
Asides from those 2, the 2 strikers at Burnley are looking very decent (ings and vokes)
Cabella is a fantasy player ! Fantastic if we get him though Nicollin has been openly critical of MYM degressing since he got to Newcastle and would make any deal difficult! Talk in france is he scuppered newcastles move for younes belhanda!
From France, lyons lacazette is a very decent player though lyon don’t do bargains! lorients Aboubakar is having a phenomenal season and has atrributes to be a success! Ive also always liked monacos Riviere , hes not on mega money either like his teammates! Though hes more of a Remy replacement, similar players!
The dark horse for me is a player at Nantes! Filip Djordevic! Out of contract in the summer and scoring goals in not a top team!
Due to this new tax law in france, expect to see ligue 1 players outside of PSG and monaco to flood the premier league in jan and the summer! Think ashley will be looking to take further advantage

I would tend to minimize change for the upcoming game against cardiff, so if Colo, Debuchy, Cabaye and Krul are out for one reason or another, would go 4-4-2 with the following team:

Depending on how the game is going, bring on the likes of Taylor, Ben Arfa and Shola/Sammy in second half

I’m assuming Santon can play RB as he is right footed, just I like Hairdeira and think he’ll be our first team LB very soon….
