Newcastle boss Alan Pardew held his press conference today for tomorrow’s 3rd round FA Cup tie against Cardiff City at home, and he defended the FA Cup, after less than positive comments about the competition by Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert today.
Loic Remy – he’s not our player
But there’s no doubt that the Premier League, with all its money from TV these days, is the big and important competition, and it wasn’t this way a short six years ago.
Alan was asked about the transfer window, and it seems he would like to see a couple of players signed, and one of them is a striker, as he has again pointed out that Loic Remy is not our player:
“I do think in the striker department is an area we could possibly look at because Shola’s contract ends, Remy is not our player and that leaves Papiss on his own, really.”
“We should have more than that, so that’s an area I am looking at.” “All I do know is we are financially in a good position.” “I have said already that we will be strategic in our transfer dealings, and that’s what we are going to do.”
Newcastle could be after former striker target Bafe Gomis, but if we were really interested he would be signed early in January, so the longer it goes maybe the more it becomes clear he is not a real target this month.
And there have been some stories that we are interested in former striker Demba Ba, and Ba would be a fantastic signing for the club.
Let’s hope that Joe Kinnear can get his first permanent signing this month for Newcastle as our Director of Football – after all that’s the major part of his job

Comment #3Shola is going to be released, Remy will not be signing and Cisse clearly doesn’t want a bar of us, although we seem to be stuck with each other. Oh dear!

Comment #5Sounds like Shola won’t be gettin a new contract right there.
Cisse is fine if he could get a run of games(I know he’s had a bad year so far),but Pards sees him bury a peno and he doesn’t get his chance again even though the lads are exhausted….poor management
Demba BA ?Why would he come back when he wanted to leave?
He didn’t wanna stay in the first place.
Is it so he can get games for a season and get picked up by another club after a good showing?
No thanks

Comment #10And why in the hell do we have such an obessesion with the French!? It’s getting ridiculous now. Are all our scouts in France because it’s the cheapest option besides the UK? (all our eggs in one basket it seems).
We’re just so pathetic in everything we do it seems. Ad to think we are one of the ‘top’ teams in the EPL. We are so unprofessional it beggars belief.
Belgium, Holland, Spain, Germany, etc. are where the best talent is right now so why in the hell do we keep going to France!? We should change our home strip to blue and white to match our players national colours FFS!
We are quickly again becoming a laughing stock. PAck your bags from France Graham Carr and head to Belgium I am starting to get sick of so many French players being linked to us.
Oh and do hurry up and SIGN A FCUKING STRIKER ALREADY!!

Comment #11Oh and don’t mind being Mr Negative right now but I bet Solskjaer’s Cardiff we tear us a new one tomorrow. I can already see the writing on the wall. And then all hell will break loose and we will be crying for a striker then more than ever, and we will be left with the brilliant cheerleader Strolla and goal shy offside Cisse and greedy money grabbing not our player Remy until the last hour of the Janaury window or worse yet until summer!!
I am so sick of waiting for every fcuking thing with this club! And even then we still fcuk it up!

Comment #12jp so buying him outright would have been a good idea with a possible rape charge hanging over him?
i’m not sticking up for joe but surely you can see the obvious logic in that?
and it takes 2 clubs to agree on a loan with an option to buy,
so again you can’t just blame us on that either, QPR could easily say no just incase he has a storming season and a bidding war goes on for him!
so disagree on that mate
plus you want us to change to blue n white to match our signings! i could JUST….JUST about live with that!!! but then you say about belgium so you would want RED!! RED!! in our colours!!!! nope can’t live with that fella!! 🙂

Comment #13“We should have more than that” says Mr P confirming that our striker dept consists of Cisse, Shola (he’s one his shifts) and Remy who’s not our player!!!
Mr Kinnear’s been with us since June 2013 and in that time our squad is smaller than it was.
Pardew should have felt sufficiently confident that the squad is to be strengthened and he clearly isn’t otherwise, he’d have had need to go public about our plight.
Now, one met hope that the Pardew Out brigade see that husbands are tied and that Kinnear should be doing what he’s paid to do – get his arse moving and sign some players to strengthen the team now.

Comment #16i see rotonda has reverted back to form even though when we were winning he didn’t have a big problem with pardew, strange that!?
and how he uses stats is very funny!!!!
and also how he praises laudrup! “yeah well he won a cup”
so did alex mcleish does that mean he’s a great manager!!
we’ve won as many games as they did all season already!
and hes won about 6 in the last 30!!!! games playing his “modern” football and btw swansea have been playing that for about 6 seasons now and you could say that last season was still rodgers team
so i really can’t see this big love in with laudrop!!
now if he had taken over west ham and got them playing football then fair enough but alot of people are clouded by that cup win! (they played bradford btw)

Comment #17We have needed a striker since last yr.
It’s one of my pet hates with this current regime.
We are always lacking somewhere..
And we fail each and everytime in every window to bolster and correct the squad.
It’s not good enough for a Premier League club.
We can do better.

Comment #18Rumours PSG are going to bid 22 million pounds for Cabaye. God I hope not because I think Mashly would be close to selling at that price.

Comment #19Hallmark of the Ashley era. Always a player short somewhere and the squad have to make do. A lot like other industrial practices in the uk.
Cabella linked because of friendship with members of our squad. Even if we get either gomis or de jong we still need someone who will replace Remy if he isn’t staying. Anyone know any new info regarding his allegations – whether there is a case to answer?

The club can’t hide him forever otherwise he won’t become a great striker.

Comment #23apparently Cabaye left newcastle airport the day before yesterday.
but pardew has come out and said cabaye picked up an injury and will be rested today.
gonna be interesting window. he’s worth at least 20 over million. and we can use that money to buy atleast 3 quality players.
but knowing kinnear…….

I agree in some terms that Swansea team is Rogers team and they’ve played that way for several years but Laudrup is a quality coach,I bet if AP had taken the job at Swansea they’d be playing like West Ham now 😉
All digs aside,he’s not a bad coach and is doing quite well here but we all know he could be doing much better at times.
Look at Martinez the way he has got the Everton team playing good football, you can say that’s a Moyes team and it is but they weren’t used to playing like they do now yet they weren’t a bad team then either.
I just think had we a manager like him with the players we have, then we would have seen something different here.

How do you know he doesn’t have a buy out clause?
Have you read his contract?
He probably does but even if we try to use that buy out he can still choose to wait for a better offer”a club that possibly will won something ”
Kinnear,Carr and AP have probably got all the wish lists together and sent them to Santa
I have a feeling that we’re gonna lose to Cardiff today with a wonderful line up of Shola and Remy again(way to freshen it up Alan)

Comment #33It’s less to do with us more to do with where QPR finish the season on whether Remy stays, goes back to QPR or to some other club.
He has proved with us and QPR that he is a top forward. His value has risen because he has done the business at two clubs and is not a one season wonder. QPR hold all the cards. If they get promotion they will keep him. If they don’t get promotion they may well sell for substantially more than they paid for him and there is likely to be quite a few clubs lining up with bids. In a bidding war there is only one winner and that is QPR.
I think the odds are stacked against us keeping him.

It takes at least two parties to agree a clause. We may have insisted on one but QPR may have said no with a take it (him) or leave it (him).

Agree mate i do no forsee remy staying with us unfortunately at the end of the season+shola out of contract leaves us with the missfiring cisse. Unless this position is addressed were gonna be in a whole world of crap come next season!!
